Figured out the easiest way to spawn larvae super quick. Just a variation on the queens in one control group then hitting backspace deal. For me its really awkward to try and hit backspace with my normal hand positioning, so I just bound mouse4 to backspace. Now all I do is select my queen group, hit shift+v, then just hit mouse4, mouse1, over and over.

i just group all my queens into group 4 and hit V and click on the hatcheries on the map.

I've found the Hotkey + V Minimap works best, although sometimes the queens wander off if you have multiple hatcheries and stuff.

Yeah i used to do minimap, but I totally prefer this. Especially considering I typically tend to make at least 1 if not 2 extra hatches in my main in most 1v1 games it makes things easier. It was rather a pain when I would click on the blob I thought was a hatch but was really a couple tech buildings.

I'm thinking of buying this game to play for fun. Do I need to upgrade my current laptop for it? The specs:

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo T5900 @ 2.2GHZ, 800 MHz 2M L2 Cache
4GB DDR2 667MHz 2 Dimm Memory
256MB Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT Graphics Card
320GB 5400rpm SATA Hard drive

I guess the first question should be if i could play it with this laptop at all. If not then I guess I'm getting a new laptop for Christmas.

^ Yes, you can play it. Should be ok on Low graphics settings. Idk about Medium graphics.

Yeah you can play it on low fine for 1v1 and 2v2 prolly, but if you want to play late game 4v4 lag free, or some of the customs lag free even, you'll need to upgrade.

Played a few games this morning... one was a stupid toss who did a two gate -> 4 gate. I stupidly saw the 2 gate (he was chronoing zealots) and still went through with my 16 hatch when I should've played more defensively. Played two terrans who i absolutely raped with mutas. Nothing is more satisfying then muta harass. Especially when they try and retaliate with drops. Dumbass terrans don't learn that drops are a bad idea when I have overlords all over half the map and mutas are very fast.

So I'm reallllly digging fast expand into fast mutas. I've been absolutely raping terrans/toss with it. I have been basically just making two zerglings at the start unless I absolutely have to. The timings are close, today I had one against a terran where I barely got 5 mutas out in time to kill his 5 hellions that were about to roast my expand, but with good scouting things like that can be avoided. As soon as I saw his hellions coming I pulled all my drones into the main and put my queen blocking the ramp, that delayed it long enough. But anyways, its proving to be a very viable strat for where I'm at (Plat/diamond) as long as I keep the pressure on the harass.

If I dont scout that usually screws me.. if I scout it then I just start pumping marines and hope for the best

Even against marines I have plenty of success just because of the ability to contain at that point until my muta numbers hit 20+, at that point I can rape a pretty large number of marines. The only build that really has been a little difficult was against a terran who went thor/hellion. I pumped out a bunch of roaches and lings as support back at my base and just killed him every time he pushed out, just wore him down till his two bases were empty.

Same here, working very well with mid/high diamond. Even if it is countered the mobility of lings/mutas makes it so that if I don't get the "pro" creep spread I can still start to take the map and contain the opponent and cover all my expands as I out macro. I continue to do things like that, find ways to limit the amount of micro I need as zerg so I'm competitive. This is also why I've started making extra hatches in my main or at my expands so that if I miss injections I still have larva. Ling/Muta means even if I don't spread my creep to half the map 10 minutes into the game I'm still mobile. Plus this is like the one thing Zerg can set terran up with, hit em with mutas, if they go mass rines, counter with banes.

Don't be, really. My starcraft experience was very limited going into SC2, I had played through maybe a little bit of SC1. Not enough to really remember much of anything. My advice is just pick a race and start there - even if you go 0-5 through your placement matches and end up in bronze you will start getting better. Just focus on producing units efficiently and constantly until you get a better feel for the game.

After playing through the campaign I started off my 1v1 as zerg and got placed into silver. I struggled for quite a while to stay at a 50% win rate. After a while it just sort of clicked and I started winning like 90% of my matches and got pushed up to platinum where I am now. I know the game can be intimidating at the beginning, but its really pretty basic at the lower tiers of the ladder (hell, even at platinum I can screw up half the match and still win easily). Just play a bunch, watch replays on youtube, browse the team liquid forums for strategy tips, you will get good enough to move up the ladder fast.

so some dude on team liquid made a program that basically optimizes build orders. The one that he posted was a 7 roach build I've used a few times now in 2v2 and it works really well not just with early pressure but just a good build in general. For those looking for a roach build... or just a good build with zerg to start off with give this a shot.

Drones to 10/10, Make OL. Save 200 build pool. Make drones to 15 supply, build extractor at 15/18, make a drone, save 150 make a queen, make a drone, build roach warren, make drone(should be at 18/18 supply now) make 2 overlords, then you'll be able to pump 7 roaches out pretty fast. Move 3 drones to the extractor right when that finishes, and infuse your hatch right when the queen pops out.

From there can either keep making roaches pretty steady but you start to get gas hungry.. but it is a nice opener and I've so far used it to both rush and to get defense and expand behind it. The cool thing is if you get scouted early it looks like a 10 pool ling rush, but it isn't. I just played a dude and he went baneling after seeing that and all the sudden roaches show up.

The fucker that made Colonial wars updated it to 1.6 today and fucked up the whole balance of the game mode now. Horrible horrible iteration. my SC2 experience is now ruined!

Finally got my first diamond promotion, 4v4, woo! I had played a few 4v4's this morning and had gone 1-2, decided I would play one more then play a quick 1v1 before I had to go to work... of course that last 4v4 goes like 45 minutes and involves us mining out nearly every base. I kept getting roflstomped by voids early on so I didn't contribute too much till the very end when my vikings raped like 15 colossi :p

Next I think I'll work on my 1v1 diamond, I don't really like doing random team 2v2/3v3s since one bad team mate can hurt you too much. Plus I'm pretty close in 1v1 I think.

For whatever reason I am trying to work through the medium AI custom game achievements.

Have any of you gotten the one where you kill the AI in 5 min or less? I'm completely open to the fact that I am noobing it up but I havent been able to get it.

My strategy is 6 pool and rush with workers, but the fucking AI spreads their workers out across the fucking base so it takes forever for me to run everything down and kill it. Took me 8 minutes with this strategy so its not like im close haha

yeah all the youtube vidoes are for toss/terran. Seems a cannon rush will force the computer to gg quickly. ill give that a go.

Why are you chasing them down? Just kill the buildings, they'll come back to you to try and fend you off and that's when you hit them a few times until they run again and then you go back to the building.

6pool/proxy8rax/proxy10gate will kill even a very hard computer in under the time limit. Just fucking kill them, don't worry about their workers running all over.

Anyone gonna be at blizzcon? Buddy of mine won the 'opportunity' to buy tickets to the charity dinner the night before. I figured I would snag them since the 'opportunity' probably wouldn't ever come again.

Hoping to avoid the freaks in costume and sit in on some panels / see some good tourney action.

They are so bad. I was just just indecisive in both games, and screwed up the first game when helions came and did a horrible micro job and lost almost all my drones, then in the second game did like the slowest least effective early expand ever, then placed spine crawlers really poorly and he just walked by with zealots and stalkers into my main and took out everything. The game with the observer was the first and I bet he was just laughing so hard at how bad I was. I was just sorta hoping he wouldn't post the replay on TL.net under like "worst diamond zerg player ever!"

Pretty funny. I'm just so inconsistent in this game, at times just dominate, double everyone's scores, and other times lose to like 3 helions.

Interesting patch, defenitly hurt protoss I think, at least the way I play. I like to send 2-3 voids in to their base while im engaged in battle elsewhere, normally knocking out a building or two before they get dealt with. That seems like it will be difficult now, and there is no way to knock out the nexus with 2 voids like you could do before.

Wow I was not expecting the patch this soon. Not really too much that we didnt know about but Im loving a void ray and medic nerf even though i didnt feel either was necessary. Terran are losing some mobility and flexibility which is great. I cant wait to dominate some terran, i think im gonna 7 pool and rush two drones, if you knock out an scv before he finishes the depot thats pretty much gg. Also it will be interesting to see how much this effects a terran wall off. I think terran are gonna have to build their first depot closer to home to make sure they dont lose the scv. Also the roach range buff will help my zvp which is my easiest matchup anyways. Still hate zvz tho

I mean nothing done in the patch really hurts zerg so in that respect I like it.

However, not the changes I wanted to see really. I'd rather have functional hydras then better roaches. The building health is nice. Would love to see health regenerate faster too.

Is it live today? If so, patch right before MLG DC will make things interesting.

I cant tell you how many times i've lost medivacs because they reached the destination point before the rest of my army did.

^this shouldnt effect that at all, this is a nerf on their ability to get in and get out. If you want to have your medivacs follow and autoheal just make them move onto one of your bio units and they will automatically stay with them.

So 16 hatch -> 15 gas -> 14 pool is my new favorite build. Its really fun to use in 2v2s/3v3s/4v4s on any of the maps where you can take an easy xpo. Absolutely rapes if the other team doesnt apply really early pressure. I've found the mutas (usually 8 with my first batch) hit right around when teams are usually pushing out and it either forces them to fall back or deals a shit ton of damage. Then I just keep pushing out more and more mutas while my teammates expand and take out the other teams ground forces. It has been absolutely raping non cheese team builds, my econ is so ridiculous. If I could macro better I would throw in a ton of slings as well but I spend too much time harassing with the mutas

Played tonight for the first time in over a week 3v3s. Did aight. Still no promotion. I can get used to no more reapers i think. I only saw one player who made them tonight.

On the other hand, I got 6-pooled more tonight than all my previous games combined Expecting that to happen alot more
