Alright, did some more tinkering, now, the gun sounds fine. Radio comms are still way choppy though. I've been looking on the bf2s forums, but to no avail

the Microsoft driver for the SBLive value is absolute shit.

Download the Creative Driver from their website and use it instead.

i havent played since last weekend... but are any of you having problems playing online with SF? I kept getting connection errors. Worked awesome with BF2 (w/o SF). I know my video card is below mediocre, but worked fine for BF2, and shouldn't effect my online play/connection, right?

my guess is that connection errors have nothing to do with video cards.

Ok I had to reformat and I need to reinstall.

So what patch or patches do I need?

Is the latest an all in one deal?

The 1.12 patch is all you need.

I play over a wireless connection and I rarely have connection issues.

Got Special Forces for my birthday and I have to say that while I enjoy it so far, it does seem to be missing quite a bit. No planes on any of the SF maps? C'mon, that's just lacking. The maps also come across as being very small (to me, anyway). It's not that there's not a lot to do on those maps, but I just prefer vast expanses with lots of vehicles. Some of the new vehicles seem a bit more comical to me than anything else. The 4-wheeler is the Special Forces class' best friend, though, as it can get you right to the enemy's artillery in no time flat. It's pretty bloody hard to hit someone while they're riding on it since it's so fast.

I do tremendously enjoy some of the new unlockables, though. The SCAR-L is bar none my new favorite weapon. I haven't tried the medic's G36 yet, but I definitely welcome it. For as much as I originally enjoyed the SA80, it feels like it has jack squat for stopping power when compared to some of the other rifles.

Well, Special Forces was designed to mimic more of the Special Forces type fighting...as much as a shocker as that may seem. Last time I checked, SEALs don't fly jets. Hell, I would have been fine with no air at all, save for the transport helo the MECSF get on Iron Gator. I especially don't like the fact that one side has an attack chopper on Leviathan and the other doesn't...but it seems like no one knows that its there. Even armor is a little overdone...on Surge one team can have 3 Tanks...bit of an overkill if you ask me.

I have played SF almost exclusively since I got the expansion. I've teamed up with a clan for some 5v5 and 8v8 ladders on TWL. Should be great fun!

New patch due out soon. I got this from a forum over at bf2s.com

Quote :
"Hi all,

We are currently working on the next Battlefield 2 update. We believe this update has some significant improvements that everyone will appreciate. We’ve seen the discussions on the forum and will do our best to address as many issues as possible, as soon as possible.

Here is a quick run down of just some of the issues we have been working on.

- Helicopter now carry 8 missiles rather than 14
- TV-Guided missile now have a shorter range
- Hit points on all air vehicles has been reduced
- AA missile lock has been improved
- Support kits have had their primary weapons adjusted for accuracy
- Sniper kits have had their primary weapons adjusted for accuracy
- Anti-Tank kits have had their primary weapons adjusted for accuracy
- "Dolphin Diving" is no longer possible
- Players can no longer jump and shoot at the same time
- "Prone Spamming" is now fixed
- "Sprint exploit" is now fixed
- The Sa80 weapon has been improved
- The G3A3 weapon has been improved
- Reload while sprinting has been enabled
- Chinese and MEC APCs can now shoot through penetrable materials
- Damage decreased for the M134
- Medic defibrillator paddles have been adjusted. They now reload while not in use.

We'll be announcing further additions to this list, but that will have to wait until the next update. This is NOT the complete list of items we are working on. As we have more items go through testing and we are sure of a change we will update you.

For now, cheers.

Armando "Aj" Marini
Battlefield Team"

Seems like a good patch to get rid of those damn bunny hoppers. I don't like it that you won't be able to shoot while jumping though. Sometimes you need to get that extra boost when throwing a grenade or some C4.

Interesting. I do hope that the AA missiles will track more effectively. Their speed is fine, it's just that they lose lock all too easily. I wonder if these changes will apply to SAMs only, or will also apply to AAM missiles? I also agree about jumping and shooting, but then again, maybe they specifically mean jumping and shooting.

I do think it's valuable sometimes to be able to jump and toss a C4 block, grenade, or even a mine. I had one of my funniest kills ever recently when I spawned on one of the catwalks in a warehouse in Dalian Plant. There was a tank directly beneath where I was, so I stood up, jumped, and tossed a mine on top of the tank. (I couldn't have made the toss if I wasn't able to jump and throw.) To my amazement, the second the tank moved, it blew up. It's good to know that you can put mines on top of things and they will still go off. Completely illogical, but highly useful. LOL.

Oh yeah, I wonder what they mean by improving the SA80? If they just give it more stopping power, it'll be the best unlock in the game.

Yeah the mine trick is something that I rarely see people use. When I am in armor, I see engineers run up and throw a mine right in front of me hoping that I will run over it. I wonder if you are able to throw a mine in a transport chopper? That would help a lot with the explosives badge.

I would think the jumping means just firing your guns, not stopping you from anything...but we'll see

on another note...I got 5 vet badges in one night support combat, resupply, knife, pistol, and explosives...very fun night! I'm about 150 points away from 1st Sgt and two more unlocks - woohoo.

Oh, and I have really taken a liking to the M95 sniper rifle. I am trying to get my 15 hours needed for vet (it's my last combat vet badge to get) and have become decent with it. I use a trackball to play and find that if I pull my thumb off the ball right before the shot, I don't get any player-added deviation. I just wish they'd get rid of TK punish for claymores you set down. I got two punishes in a round last night b/c of morons running down stairs where I was sitting...

^How did you get your vet explosives? I was barely able to get my basic through jihad jeeping. I tried using claymores to get it on Karkand, but too many of my dumbass teammates thought that the red skull was a power up and (of course) punished me so I ended up getting kicked from most rounds.

Haha - powerups...i hate that shit too

I got my vet on Karkand. It was a large server, but low numbers so the rounds lasted more. Mine were all C4 kills too. What ended up happening was the US took some flags on the back side on the 64 player map. I headed back there to defend and it seemed like the whole fight moved there. I started defending the gatehouse(?) to the right as you drive across the bridge. I'd toss out all my C4, wait and peep out the windows, and go BOOM when I saw guys coming in. I knew there was one squad always trying, so I'd hesitate a second before blowing so everyone could get in on the fun. I took out quite a few APC's, Tanks, and Hummers...the commander kept me resupplied with a crate. I did jihad once to the suburbs flag...killed 3 with it and then was revived by a medic nearby and capped the flag - hah!

I think it takes a little skill and a lot of luck to get the 23 kills for Vet....but I ended up with 43 kills, 35 of which were probably C4. Just try to get large maps with few people to draw out the round length. And tell yourself that you're doing nothing but C4, come hell or high water.

awww, poor little pilot upset? get over it...the fact is if someone can have a 28:1 KDR (like |ccc||PlaneWhore), something needs to happen. I just wonder how you plane whore like a bitch and still have only a overall 2:1 KDR...I guess you're not as good as I thought afterall...I mean you only have a 7:1 KDR in the jets...I guess something like this would piss you off then since you seem to be on the cusp of being a shitty pilot

Well I think the idea behind that feature of the patch is to eliminate plane whores. I fly my fair share of planes but I am well rounded and try to use all the vehicles. I don't see the point of using the same vehicle over and over again... if you want to do nothing but fly there are tons of multiplayer flight sims out there.

btw maugan, I'm just spinning you up. I don't have a problem with planes per se. They become annyoing if you're reduced to one spawn point, but most of the time, I'm running with a good enough squad that doesn't happen.

What I will find to be interesting is how bad the BH miniguns get nerfed.

I don't play video games excessively and I don't want to buy a new video card... will it work at all on any level?

I have a p4 2.26 533FSB and 1GB PC2700

and ive gotten some aiming advice to easily take down most any vehicle im having a lot of fun with this game

gofigure, your system should work. altho not sure a/b ur processor. but my roommate has an fx5600 and it runs well. he customizes his in game video settings and gets it to run very nicely. i know hes got an amd64 3000 and a gig of memory.

as opposed to my previous system which was all pretty good except for a gfx5200 which couldnt run squat. apparently theres a pretty big jump b/t the 5200 and 5600. but now i updated to the 6800gt so im set.

maugan - I know what you're talking about. It was especially bad in BFV, when they nerfed the shit out of the US attack huey and didn't touch the Mi8.

The need to hurry up and get rid of the bunny hopping and dolphin diving - we had our first TWL match the other night and came up on a team that must have had macros assigned for constant bunny hopping, instant C4 det, and were always diving. That shit is just retarded

What exactly is dolphin diving?

And what's this about macros? I wasn't even aware that you could create them in-game. If so, can someone please suggest to me a way to make an "instant ready on wheel roll" weapon switch macro? I'm still hating having to roll, click, and then start shooting. Old habits die hard.

yea it takes some getting used to to switch weapons effectively
it was difficult for a while for me to take on tanks and ppl at the same time
took some weapon switching practice.

dolphin diving is the act of running, jumping, and going prone while firing at the same time....it screws with the hitbox on the player models while allowing uneffected accuracy for the diver

Ah, that's what I thought. Seems like Ghost Recon had the most logical way of dealing with this problem - anytime you quickly went prone from standing, it skewed your target reticle WAY open so that your accuracy went right out the window. You could still shoot, but there was only about a 10% chance you'd hit what you were aiming at, at least until you had a split second to "ready" your weapon. You also couldn't shoot at all while changing positions from prone to standing. Very effective.

So, macros anyone?

they're supposedly gettng rid of the dolphin diving and bunny hopping in the next patch...just hope it comes out soner rather than later, because I don't know if I want to keep going in TWL ladder matches with the asshattery going on that's there now

and I cetainly don't use macros. i feel like that kind of cheapens the game for me. But I also am a pretty good gamer on my own anyway - last night I beat out the gunners of a BH whore squad on Matsur City as a medic on the opposite side ground pounding. I had 3 less kills, but a ton more team points...and I shot them down towards the end of the round with the stingers at their own base too

I think it would help a lot to make it so that when you jump, you don't go that high except if you had a running start. I think one of the things that makes bunny hopping/dolphin diving effective is that you jump higher then your actual body. If someone is aiming for your mid section and fire, but you jump at the right time then it will go under you. If they decrease the jumping height so that you can only jump to about knee level, then jumping won't make a difference unless the person is aiming for the legs. If you were only able to jump that high when running, it would still allow people to jump rooftops and obstacles easily.

hell, they could allow bunny hopping to continue, just explode their hit box to cover the entire path of the jump and have their aim go to complete shit

Actually I think it is really funny. You shoot someone from like a mile away and suddenly they start jumping and running all over the place like they have a headcrab stuck to them. It's kinda like when you are in plane and you start shooting them with your guns from surface attack mode and even though you don't have a lock on them, they release flares anyway, out of panic.
