What you don’t know is how “committed” Calipari indicated that he was to the NC State search committee. From every source with whom we have spoken, Calipari talked the talk and to walked the walk that (paraphrased) “money was not an issue as he was attracted to the sleeping giant at NC State and wanted to compete in the ACC against the best”. * Unfortunately, Calipari’s destructive wake also includes the carcasses of many prominent and valuable Wolfpack Club members who stuck their neck out for him in the process. * Confirmation is blurry on a report that a verbal agreement was reached with Calipari during Sunday’s meeting. The plan was for Calipari to visit Raleigh on Monday night (as he did) and at that point he would be presented a formal offer which he indicated that he would accept. Obviously, Calipari had engaged in such detailed negotiations that the offer was able to be drawn. * We started smelling a rat yesterday afternoon. Here is why — nobody from NC State leaked Calipari’s visit to the media. When Andy Katz reported Calipari was going to visit Raleigh in the middle of Monday afternoon, we started being very concerned. Calipari’s only reason to leak the news (which is what we presume happened) was to keep Memphis’ wheels rolling. * If what Calipari had been telling NC State was true…then it wasn’t going to matter what Memphis ultimately counter-offered. This is why the leak was concerning. There was a reason for it. Now, we know the reason for it. * You have to realize, John Calipari initiated contact with NC State. John Calipari pursued NC State. John Calipari verbally committed to NC State. John Calipari lied to everyone. * Many fans are trying to blame this on Lee Fowler. We don’t think that is fair. The search committee swung for the fences, and lost. It sucks. John Calipari lied, and lied, and lied some more. Maybe you can criticize Fowler for the manner in which the conversations were executed (is - waiting until late in the week, getting caught by the media, etc), but you cannot criticize Fowler for trying. * Additionally, you can’t criticize any Wolfpackers for getting caught in Calipari’s trap. Where we come from, people don’t behave this way. * Dave Glenn’s blog has an evening update which includes an interesting tidbit: A league source with knowledge of the situation told ACCSports.com at 3 p.m. that ACC associate commissioner Fred Barakat, who has been assisting the Wolfpack with its search, sounded “angry” and “upset” when he reported his findings that Memphis and Calipari appeared to be on the verge of a new agreement. The league source said Barakat and “everyone” at State had been extremely optimistic about landing Calipari when the day began"

yeah, I liked both the sportsfannation and ESPN post-Calipari articles....

But yeah, I think it was an ASSHOLE's move to make us think he had so much consideration towards the job (flying personally to Raleigh to visit the NC State campus and facilities), and then announce that he was staying at Memphis almost instantaneously after the Memphis raise offer...

For all that said, FUCK CALIPARI! It's time to just accept it and move on Wolfpack, hope for best and keep our heads up... An friend close to mine said... "FREEDOM IS NEVER GIVEN, IT IS WON.." We make our own future, and hopefully Lee Fowler will make the best decision with the resources (and choices) that he has left...

apparently he didn't play us as much as we thought he did. memphis got him to stay for only a base salary of $1.3 million with incentives to push it up to a max of $1.7 million. so basically he got a $200,000 pay increase.

i heard herb's deal is not even a million, these contracts include so many sources/income streams/incentives that it is hard to fucking tell

you can bet that our deal was not in "streight cash homie" either, probably 2 million with shoe deal/camp shit/licensing/incentives/etc.

These coaches don't give a shit about their conferences (really K, Boeheim, and Roy are the only 3 that come to mind that constantly mention conference loyalty). He is recruiting just fine, has a great returning team, and makes a ton of money.

It's like he isn't going to be able to compete for national championships because he plays in C-USA...

just my opinion, from the outside looking in, that conference blows ass, the Big East raped them

i fully believe that Cal has a great situation in Memphis, he is king there, recruits great athletes, and has a fat annuity comin up in about 3 years

^Calipari visits NC State and loves it and is ready to accept the offer. Fowler took him to get a slice pizza somewhere on campus. Fowler makes Calipari pay for his own pizza. We could cry about how we missed our chance, but let's be real, if Calipari comes here, we still find some way to fuck it up.

Either Cal's shady recruiting tactics leads the NCAA to investigate us instead of UNC's football program, or Cal uses us to get the deal of deals at Kentucky a couple of years later, or we make it to the Finals and shit the bed, a la Derrick Rose missing free-throws and not fouling Chalmers before he attempts the 3. We are NC State after all.
