^ What kind of insanity is that? Cut MEAT out? Hopefully you are talking for veggie/vegan diets because otherwise I'm gonna wonder . . . .

For an FYI I've been on a ketogenic diet for exactly a week and almost all I eat is meat.

^^just out of curiosity, do you suffer from epilepsy or is the diet kind of an atkins variation for you? i remember reading that ketogenic diets are pretty effective alleviating epilepsy.

i don't mean that in a negative or intrusive way if it comes across wrong.

Kiwi: I just did some googling and came up with an adult coed volleyball team that plays in your area.

Quote :
"Location: Knoxville, TN
Sport: Volleyball
Type: Team
Gender: Co-ed

Level: Casual
Roster Status: Looking for more players
Challenges: Accepting challenges

Game Days: Weekdays and Weekends
Game Spots: Mayor Bob Leonard Park on Watt Road - Farragut, TN

Co-ed sand volleyball team playing in recreational division. Team names have included Sand Fleas, Heavy Lifters, Sandsations and Campfire Squirrels. Games in 2007 were on Tuesday evenings and we held our practices every Sunday at 2:00 pm. There is a season kick off tournament planned for the latter part of March, so we'll start practicing some time before that. Hope it's warm by then. As a note, we have a reliable core of male players, but we are short a couple of consistent female players."

It may be worth checking out.

Losing weight and gaining are really the same formula.

To lose, you want to minus out 500 calories a day, around 3000 cals a week...and to gain, eat 500 more nutrient dense calories.

1 gram of protein and 1 gram of carbs will each give you 4 additional calories...1 gram of fat will give you 9 calories. A paperclip weighs a gram, just to give you an idea of portions.

I'd consume a few extra carbs daily in the forms of whole wheat breads and lots of veggies. Maybe you can get in some lean protein like chicken and combine it with a higher fat milk than skim. You're basically eating an extra "meal" a day.

you might want to try switching out lean meats for meats with higher fat contents if you're trying to gain weight. try salmon and beef instead of tuna and chicken.

True...but it is not as healthy. Darker meats are so high in saturated fats.

Eat dark meat for high fat if you do stay with chicken.

And ditto on the salmon...salmon filets are easy to prepare.

I asked my boyfriend if that pic looked like me...he said no...then I scrolled down so the face was off the screen and all you could see was the shoulders to the ass and I asked if it looked like me now..

haha he said, "Yes, actually it does."

Oh, and I'd never bwn or even give the time of day to dnl.

As far as losing 50 lbs. by July, I'd rather just tighten my abs. Any exercises other than sit ups along with cardio?

Well, you can't spot lose weight and realistically if you only do crunches and other ab exercises, you'll just start to appear fatter.

So, no. Do cardio and lose weight.

No, no...I meant still do cardio for 30 min-45, 3 times a week...but instead of sit ups, what other exercises work those muscles? Sit ups are so boring. I was thinking flutter kicks or some ball exercise or something.

Lift weights.

You seriously can't just "tighten up" an area of your body.

i use a 35lb round weight and put it in one hand and lean to the side and pull back up using my abs. i do 8 sets of 12 on each side 3-4 times a week

its pretty much the sweetest fastest way to lose inches on the waist, for me anyway

this is of course combined with intense 30-45min epsiodes of cardio which it sounds like you're doing anyway

I think I'm finally going to really start using my free membership at the Y now. With my new diet that the doctor put me on of nothing but fruits, veggies, and fish I figured why not work out too, cause I need to anyway. I think the majority of my work outs for now is going to be cardio simply because I don't have that much time to spend in the gym right now with school and work and homework and all that wonderful stuff. I think now I'm just working on a lifestyle change. I don't want this to just be a diet.
It's not that I was unhealthy before, but with the combination of genetics, me having pcos, not being as active as I was when I was playing soccer in high school, and becoming must more lax in what I ate things have gone downhill for me fast lately. So a lot of the stuff that has happened to me recently has been a wake up call for me. My goal is to get back to the way I was in high school. I want to be healthy again.

Right on, good for you!

I bought a scale the other day and good lord was THAT a wake up call!

Made a New Years' bet with my brother to lose 30 pounds by July, but I'm gonna take it a step farther and start training for a Sprint triathlon around the same time, w00t!

Now if I can just stay away from stuff like NCSUWolfy's cream cheese and jelly plate o death I think I'll be in good shape!

PS All through high school - size 30" or 32" waist. Now? Most 36" waist pants are tight. Not for long bitches, I'm on the train to Bufftown!

Working has got me waking up super early and sleeping a lot better+ Living on the third floor + eating healthier, scheduled meals + working out with the crew every morning and afternoon is really working out for me

i feel a lot healthier and in ~3 weeks have dropped 2 pants sizes - i don't know what my goal weight will be, its more like my goal is to fit into my seven jeans again.

How do you gain weight?

I've tried a few things and none worked.

As much as I like the idea of being ripped. I think it's a waste of time. We arent cave men anymore.

its easy.

start eating a lot. it expands your stomach, so after a week, you'll be hungrier everytime breakfast, lunch, dinner comes by.

my stomach is huge, but im fit. people think i weigh 170-180.... but i actually weigh 195. its mostly leg and thigh weight, since they're huge. I play soccer almost every day for at least 2 hours though.

Hey guys I wanna jump on this bandwagon! My hibernation is over which is weird because this is about the same time it ended last year. WTF?

Anyway yay for being healthy!!!

sawahash if you only have limited time in the gym switch some cardio days for resistence training, I swear to you it is so important and will really help melt the weight off!!

So I did my 30 mins of cardio today. Did really good and it went by so fast. I thought it was going to feel like torture but it wasn't. I feel awesome. Been doing good with the food that I'm able to eat. I had cheerios crunch for breakfast and for lunhc some leftover lasanga with no meat, whole wheat pasta, and skim milk cheese with a salad and whole wheet garlic bread with smart source butter. Don't know what I'm gonna have for dinner tonight.

I'm not going to weigh myself for a long time though. Probably not until I notice close fitting better or looser on me.

Trying to get back into regularly working out myself, after several false starts. When I weighed myself last Friday I was 215, which is the heaviest I've ever been, so that's a decent amount of motivation right there. Hell...I was down to 182 in 9/05, looking back at the notes I kept the last time I worked out regularly...33 lbs gain in 2.5 years is kind of a shock.

Evidently I need to go down to about 175 to get back in the "normal weight" segment for BMI. 40 lbs, and a weight that I haven't been since 1999. (My sophomore year here, I'm 27...)

This may take a while. Maybe a year is realistic?
