^^ Donovan has looked very good on the left in the WCQ campaign, don't overreact to one game

I'd rather see Dempsey in the middle/behind Jozy

[Beasley's] FK was terrible. I cant believe he didn't even try to put it over the wall.

That one was bad, but that free kick he had to set up the goal was cash.

I thought the few opportunities he had looked better than Landycake's chances

^^ - How did I forget that one. Cherundolo?!, WTF was I thinking. Better to play Spector and Bocanegra wide and Gooch and DeMerit in the center IMHO.

^ - He was just getting on at Bolton

Has he actually signed with them, or is he just on loan from Houston? I don't do the best job of keeping up with who plays where in the world.

His contract was up with Houston, he was a free agent in January. And he signed a short-term deal for the rest of the 09/10 season with an option to extend for Bolton and Coyle was quoted that the club was definitely going to extend the deal.

WHAT THE FUCK?

Fracture?

They were reporting a bone contusion. What a reckless tackle for a friendly too. It should have been yellow, at least.

The info on the right side of that said he got a yellow but I never saw one. That's a clear red card. Late, studs up sliding tackle head-on that results in an injury... Reckless to say the least. Should have been off after that challenge.

Sucks that Holden will be out for 2 months. Then the only games he'll have to get back in shape will be the World Cup warm-ups. Maybe he can sign a loan deal for a couple months with an MLS team to try to get him back in form before the World Cup starts.

Ching just pulled his hamstring in tonight's MLS game. Looked bad but who knows how serious it is

nobody's a Ching fan but would you really have Casey or Eddie Johnson?

i wore my brian ching jersey the other day, i'm proud to say, so technically i am a brian ching fan. really though casey, johnson, that half jamaican guy, i forget his name, they're not going to have a big impact. so it'd be pretty much the same as ching being out there. might as well get a decent mid and put dempsey up at forward all the time.

If you think about it, the only chance we have of knocking off the big boys is probably on set pieces....about the only thing Ching is good for. So he probably will get the nod if healthy.f

well Davies will be back anyways so whoever ends up going will end up as a 5th forward behind Jozy, Davies, Dempsey/Donovan anyways so it's not that big of a deal

i had a 25% coupon off athletic apparel at dick's today...they let me use it on the navy us wc jersey

so ended up being 70-25%...plus the us soccer store was backordered last time i looked.

they have a ton of jerseys, for big countries like portugal, netherlands, germany, argentina, brazil, sa, etc

here are the full game highlights for any interested, Adu got the assist on EJ's first goal and he also drew a penalty

^That is good to hear. I don't care who is playing good at forward for the national team as long as someone is playing good at forward.

What we need is someone with pace on the ball. Davies fit that role perfectly, he was relentless on 50-50s and he could flat out burn defenders when he was on his game. I think he coupled with Altidore well, as Altidore does his best work in between the pipes. Conversely, Davies is great from outside the box all the way to the end line.

If Davies can't get back to form in time (although I still believe he can), I think Eddie Johnson should at least get a shot at camp. He does have the speed, but I don't think he has the touch that Davies had before his brush with death. Lets hope whoever gets the nod finds the form of their life.

I have been impressed with Edson Buddle so far this year. He at least needs an invite to camp, but he isn't as much of a run at you forward as Davies is.

i still want davies in, even if he doesn't have match practice. I think it would be such a morale boost for the team to have him there on the bench. Out of all those strikers left, i'd have to go with EJ just because he has some experience, and he's been playing well in europe lately.

Buddle will definitely get invited to the camp if he continues his form, especially since Arena is his manager. While I can't deny the stats he's put up so far, every time I hear his name I cringe at the thought of him being in consideration. I'd be fine with replacing Connor Casey with anybody though. Even a small plant would be fine with me. A rhododendron perhaps.

My guess at the 23 spots, locks in bold

Howard, Guzan, Hahnemann

Bocanegra, Gooch, Cherundolo, Spector, Bornstein, Demerit

Donovan, Dempsey, Bradley, Edu, Holden, Feilhaber, Beasley, Torres, Clark*

Altidore, Ching

3 left after those: I think he'll take at least one more defender (Wynne/Hejduk), and the other two spots will probably be forwards so I guess it's between: Gomez, Findley, GAM, Casey, and Davies.

*I personally don't think we need him, especially considering he hasn't played much since he moved from MLS. But he's one of BB's guys and after Edu, we don't really have a midfielder that can play that defensive role that we often see.

I don't understand this story. It's going back and forth. Davies is in full contact drills, I don't understand why he wouldn't be invited to camp unless he's having lingering medical problems. None have been mentioned in any recent report I've seen. An 80% Charlie Davies is better than a 125% Conor Casey.

haha but this is bob bradley picking, not a logical person. if he could, he would make his entire team out of the conor caseys, brian chings, and jonathan bornsteins of the world. thankfully those guys are so unique we don't have to worry about it.

^^ yeah, it's stupid because with all the progress he's made, why would they just arbitrarily decide he's out for the WC when he has another month to prove his fitness?

Bradley's in a tough spot, honestly, because there's no chance of Davies being entirely 100% as he hasn't had enough games - so you either take him and piss off those like b4c who only want guys that are completely healthy, regardless of how valuable they are to the team... OR you don't take him and face a shit storm of backlash from everybody that knows how much this would mean to the team and fans even if he doesn't play a minute

If Davies is healthy enough to train and possibly give some minutes without jeopardizing his long-term health and career, you HAVE to take him, imo. It's not just about performance on the field with this selection - it's morale, inspiration, confidence-builder, etc.

^Well said. I won't be pissed no matter what happens to him. He will make a good off the bench player, even if he can only play about 15 minutes. Now if he isn't able to go at least 10 minutes then there is no need to take him.
