removed 5 year old ac delco batteries that had been leaking acid onto the tray from my truck. sanded the trays to remove rust, sprayed with primer and bedliner spray, and installed diehard platinums agm batteries (same battery as the odyssey made by enersys). $470!!

went ahead and replaced the other front hub before the bearing went out. rotated the tires, changed the oil, greased the front end.

^i might use an oak tree for an engine hoist, but at least i properly torque my headbolts.

not to mention that with a 3' cheater bar, they're probably severely over-torqued

Head job finished on my E30 convertible. This morning I pulled the cluster and repaired the speedometer (bad soldering/etc) and replaced a couple bulbs while I was in there. Then had to pull it AGAIN because the fuel gauge needle got pushed out of alignment. Installed a stereo so no gaping hole in the dash.

Still to do on the E30: replace vacuum hoses (has a leak somewhere and idles a bit rough, probably cracked something taking all the old hoses off to remove the head). Replace a broken sway bar link on the front. Then maybe start on cosmetic stuff like replacing the leather on the seats, heh.

i'll take your word for it. i've never heard of head bolt torque being spec'd like that, but i've never screwed with much foreign stuff.

Yea, I'll be honest, I would have completely ignored the manual if I hadn't checked s2ki and saw everyone saying that's the way it should be done. Still weirded me out.

One guy claims you're putting over 200ft-lbs on it by the time you're done

Tried to install stainless brake lines on the M3 tonight...on the first one I tried, driver's front, the hard line sheared while I was trying to break the soft line connector loose. FML.

And I'm flying to London Sunday for work, so I can't even get it into a shop that can deal with this clusterfuck I've gotten myself into.

I'm not sure why (wrong speed sensor?) but my speedo is spot-on with the 245's. the 275's are only ~3% off so it's not too bad.

the shop had the 275/40 set in the back and 275/35 set in the storage house across the street. I told the guy I wanted the ones in the shop thinking they were 35's. I didn't catch it until one tire was mounted and said nevermind

used tires ftw (2x sumitomo htrz III for $70)

Got rid of the fender flares on the Land Cruiser. Pulled the running boards last week after bending them on a log. It's starting to look less like a conversion van.

I also disabled the daytime running lights today. I hate DRLs.

beat the piss out of it again yesterday.

http://www.youtube.com/embed/nlXOvy5-C0M?rel=0

ran great other than overheating it at one point. i unplugged my fans at lunch while messing with other stuff, forgot to plug em back in, and ran a lap. got back to the grid with the overflow spewing everywhere, i self-facepalmed pretty hard.

i've lost count of how many times i've overheated this thing at drift events over the past few years (mostly due to other derp fan issues), and it's still running great!

but the tach still works! good enough for a bit of freeway math!

"let's see... tach says 3800... and 3500 is around 75... divide by something... multiply something... carry the 1... aw screw it, i'll just merge into the fast lane and go with the rest of traffic."

the BEST car to find on the highway is an 8th gen civic at nighttime. if i'm next to their driver door i can read their digital speedo.

^^^ have you modified the rack/ knuckles to get that steering angle ?

11/11/2012 10:32:05 PM

^ eh, very little. my inner tie rods have a small built-in spacer that allows the rack to travel about 8mm further before bumpstopping on the tie rod. beyond that it's pretty much all stock or stock replacement stuff. stock s13 knuckles, stock s14 LCAs, and i just switched over to stock s14 outer tie rods (because i was breaking aftermarket rod ends).

in the next couple months i'll be ordering drop spindles. there are a couple companies that make them, all with around 45mm of knuckle drop (and subsequent roll center correction), and shorter tie rod pickups with less/zero ackermann.

options:

-- stock knuckle is forged.

-- PBM Pro knuckle takes the stock forged knuckle and modifies it to move the LCA balljoint pickup 45mm lower and the tie rod pickup 45mm lower, a good hunk inward toward the spindle (claiming ~65 degrees of angle), and further out from the rack (resulting in less ackermann, 8.5 degrees). $400 + shipping.

^ my housemate has these. excellent quality, lots of angle, very smooth feel. the roll center correction makes a world of difference for our lowered cars by putting our LCAs and tie rods close to level again

-- PBM Pro V2 knuckle takes all the geometry of their cut-n-weld knuckles and puts it into a clean cast knuckle. pretty cool, but i'm not sold on the cast design, stepping back from a forged one. idk if they've announced pricing yet, but probably right around $400 + shipping as well.

-- GKTech knuckles. modular billet awesomeness. billet knuckle with shrink-fit spindle, 40mm of drop. billet tie rod pick-ups with adjustable mounting, interchangeable for various ackermann angles. billet caliper mounts, interchangeable for various caliper setups. LCA balljoint inserts, interchangeable for use with s13 or s14 balljoints. coilover bolt hole inserts, interchangeable for use with s13 or s14 coilovers/bolts. $545 + shipping for one complete made-to-order setup. additional billet steering pickups and caliper brackets are $100/pair, and balljoint/coilover inserts are a few bucks.

^ since all their parts are billet, these guys have made their design an open source style. they'll supply you the knuckle dimensions should you feel so driven to model your own steering pickup or caliper bracket. if you can design it in Solidworks, they'll do some basic FEA to make sure it's reasonably safe and have it machined for you.

as of right now, i'm leaning towards the GKTech knuckle. it's billet bling, it's super adjustable, they actually FEA, lab test, and real-world test all of their designs, it's not that much more than the solid PBM knuckles, annnnddd... and it's billet bling, that deserves a second mention.

Last night I set timing on my car and dialed in the TPS. Took it for a spin today, put in rotella synth 5w-40, also installed oil temp guage and some new wiring so the car hopefully never sets itself on fire, runs well, glad to have her back on the road again. A jetta tried to race me wtf. Needs a dyno tune for the new turbo and fueling setup, I hope to get that accomplished this weekend.

Mercedes style Garrett 50 trim .48 a\r turbo with rb26 Injectors and Acura legend resistor box.

Should be good for close to 300whp it is very responsive even for being on a base tune
