so i may get flamed for this...i've never really been into Kings of Leon, i enjoyed their earlier works and was completely over Only By the Night by the time it became a billboard darling but for some reason I am completely into this new album. I can't stop listening to it.

^it's definitely worth a listen if you're a fan --- but, nothing like Cold Roses at all.

It's a double album, but devoid of filler like most concept double LP's (21 songs long). I can't really give a reference point for what it sounds like in terms of his previous records because stylistically it's all over the fucking place.

I've only had time to listen to it twice, but I can see it being a grower for me.

i gave it a run though last night while cooking and doing things around the house

me and the girl both came to the conclusion that it's not the worst, but not good by any means

some of it is just fucking laughably bad

there may be a few songs on it that ill play a few more times

but i like to listen to things front to back, i hate just picking out songs.... i dont see myself doing this that often with this album.

J.Cole (rapper from Fayetteville, NC...signed to Jay-Z's label) came out with a mixtape a few weeks ago. "Friday Night Lights". It's pretty good. I would definitely recommend it. If you ask me, this is better than some hip-hop albums this year.

^Haha...yeah I didn't realize how poorly worded and vague that was till now. What I meant was, in general, a mixtape has poorer production than an album, shorter songs than an album, and usually aren't an artist's best effort...they're giving the music away for free, it shouldn't be expected to be of album-quality. But this mixtape, in my opinion, is of album-quality in terms of length (19 tracks, almost 72 minutes), production, and execution. If you're familiar at all with J.Cole's work and enjoy it, I would highly recommend this...I see it as his best to date.

I wasn't sure what other thread there might be to post in, so I'm picking this one. I went to the Veelee/Lost in the Trees concert on Friday, and it was great. I was looking forward to seeing Veelee (as I'd heard a lot from them but never seen them live) and wasn't sure what to expect from Lost in the Trees (knew of them and heard some of them). I liked Veelee, but Lost in the Trees almost knocked me on my ass with what I can only describe as a religious experience. Veelee and the earlier act (Butterflies) didn't hold a candle to them, it was spectacular.

The Fullsteam Brewery beer made essentially just for that night wasn't as good as I hoped though.

you wouldn't let people eat multiple entire pizzas for free and then think it's okay for someone to say, "well i liked 1 or 2 of your pizzas out of 10, i'll pay for 3-4 slices."

meanwhile, they're people in your shop eating you out of house and home and never even thinking to compensate you in any way (you've got bills to pay, mind you)... and somehow they're able to get behind the bar and give away all your alcohol to people standing at the back door who never even come into the joint

it wouldn't be fair to you at all

it used to not bother me to swipe albums off of the internet, but the past couple of years, i've really started to understand that the main reason that people think it's okay is because they don't see any sort of face with this transaction

i'm not trying to get under anyone's ass about this, cause i think most of the people in here do try to support the artists they like, but it's just something that frustrates me, cause i'm in a very similar boat as a musician

I agree with this 100%. I didn't necessarily expect to see it at #1 (although I did have a feeling it'd be pretty high), but I have no qualms whatsoever about it being named song of the year. It's a really great song and, like VB said, it's so much cooler for not jumping into that ridiculously epic hook until about halfway through the song. Makes it feel more like a suite than a song. All I have to say is...HOLD OOOOON, I'M CALLIN', CALLIN BAAAACK TO THE BAAAALL, AND WE'LL DAAAZZLE THEM AAAALL, HOLD OOOOON

I was more shocked to see that LCD Soundsystem had two songs on the list and neither of them was "Dance Yrself Clean."

I loved about half the songs on the list.

i don't think they're ignorable at all

the fact that it just bops along and the vocals wander over top of it makes the ultra-cohesiveness of the chorus even more effective

on top of that, each time through the chorus there are more layers, some of which are echoes of pieces in the opening section
