Do whatever works for you... it'll take a while to fine tune everything you want, but every day I landscape and work out. Then when I'm home, I drink a quart or two of skim milk. Even though skim milk's wicked high in sugar (glucose), it's still a decent source of protein. I've already had a quart today and it's been working well for me.6/21/2010 4:24:31 PM |

I'm free on Tuesday. Let's wax those angel wings!
I need to calorie count my food but today I had:
scrambled eggs with nonfat milk and a spice of nonfat American cheese, a banana, a turkey sandwich with avacado green peppers onion tomato and mustard on gluten free bread, nonfat geek yogurt, a protein drink after my workout, and dinner is homemade steak stirfry with brown rice and veggies. 6/21/2010 5:41:07 PM |

lactose-free milk is not milk from which lactose has been removed. lactase -- the enzyme that breaks down lactose into the 2 sugars it is made of, i.e., galactose and glucose -- is added to milk and that is marketed as "lactose-free milk".
it tastes sweeter because you can taste the glucose and galactose in the milk, and i find the taste nicer.
and so of course, it still has the same number of calories as regular milk. now if they could actually remove lactose from milk or at least reduce it by 50%, that would be great. it would reduce the caloric value of milk and make it more nutritious.
btw, yogurt is way better than milk nutritionally speaking, and also some/much of the lactose is converted to lactic acid. 6/21/2010 5:57:28 PM |

ah i see, so my milk is being pre digested for me since my tummy has troublz doing it itself

i usually only use my milk in 1/2 cup increments...i toss some in a protein shake & i'll also toss some in cold oatmeal w protein powder & blueberries. NOM A NOMA 6/21/2010 6:03:22 PM |

im still only down 2lbs but i am also down 4 inches overall (mostly from waist & hips, holler!)
kinda have a headache.. havent done my workout yet. dont want to turn the headache into a migraine so letting it go away before i exert myself!
also i checked my body fat again today & i made a mistake last time i reported it. i said i was down 4% but that was incorrect. it has not changed, still at 26%
any ideas why 3 weeks into this i've only seen 2lb drop & no change in body fat? i'll take the inches reduction (although i think some of it is measuring error, i've prob lost 3 inches more reasonably)
i was hoping to see more solid results. im not going to let it get me off track but am i doing something wrong? 6/21/2010 7:25:42 PM |

I'd rely more on physical results and how your clothes feel than some tests or calculations that may have errors or aren't that accurate. 6/21/2010 7:39:40 PM |
Joie begonias is my boo 22491 Posts user info edit post |
how are you taking the measurement?
im certain i have much more fat around my lower half than my upper half and whenever i take it via one of the handheld machines, it gives me my bf based on my arms and chest. which makes it seem low and not change much....
at least thats my theory.
youve been losing INCHES though girl! get it!

yes im very glad i started the challenge with my measurements, without those i might be freaking out! less inches is def better!
i am using a handheld device. i know they aren't super accurate and with only 2lbs lost i guess i shouldn't get too down on the number. 3 weeks isnt long enough to build that kind of muscle.
just frustrating, we're all fighting our battles, right?? 6/21/2010 7:46:44 PM |

The amount of abdominal and leg strength to do that kind of stuff is just ridiculous, on par with gymnastics. She looks to be in amazingly fit shape. Half of those things, even if I had the flexibility, I could never even attempt because I don't have the core strength. 6/21/2010 10:36:35 PM |

I found out my camera has a 10 second delay feature, so now I don't have to worry about taking photos in the mirror anymore. I'm around 270lbs right now. I took a few steps backwards last week by drinking a weeks worth of calories at the birthday party my wife threw for me, but that was to be expected.

I so wish this thread had started last year. I got motivated last October to start dropping weight and getting back into decent shape and have been on a good routine ever since. Went from 192 to now 173. I wish I would have tracked body fat because I know I've lost more than 20 lbs of fat. I didn't think to take photos, that would have been interesting...
What worked for me (if it helps anyone):
- Lots of exercise (obviously). I did a modified P90X where I followed their weight routine and did my own cardio - Cardio. I play soccer and basketball regularly, plus run a day or two a week. I feel like these are better cardio work outs than what was in P90X so I did them instead. Also started doing some of the Insanity work outs for cardio too. - Diet. Cut out all candy, caloric drinks (other than the occasional coffee), packaged snacks, etc. I eat pretty much the same lunch every day of spinach salad with chicken. Also started eating more regularly instead of going a long time without eating then binging later in the day
I didn't really start losing weight until about 3 or 4 months into the new routine, but I could tell a difference in body composition. Muscle ton was getting better and I was losing fat, but not dropping weight. I've seen a couple people in this thread say the same thing so just stick with it and eventually the fat will start to go too.
Good luck everyone! 6/22/2010 7:04:40 AM |

Yeah when I first started, I weighed myself every morning and made a spreadsheet to track my progress so I wouldn't get discouraged if I went up a little instead of down. I don't think I have lost much "weight" in the past couple of weeks but I look better in the mirror. It took me a while to stop obsessing about how much I weigh and learn to look in the mirror. 6/22/2010 7:16:24 AM |
