Any other year, they'd probably have us win it. But since Kentucky is so ridiculous this year...they couldn't even do that.

Best case would be for someone else to beat Kentucky before we met them in the finals...because we sure as fuck aren't even beating them in our dreams.

Someone's going to beat Kentucky. I would love for it to be us. It's been since the 70's that a team has gone undefeated in regular and post season play.

For sure, but it's an incredibly small sample size. Including Kentucky this year, only 5 other teams since then have had undefeated seasons, and the most recent was Witchita State last year who were beat by the eventual national runner-up, Kentucky. Given their size and talent, they've got a pretty good shot.

Kentucky is definitely not unbeatable...but they are about as big of a favorite to win it all that I can remember...maybe since the UNLV days (which their best team actually got beat by Duke).

Their length and depth is just ridiculous. If they could just shoot the ball a little better...I would put a ton of money on them against the field.

I don't know if I could write a better best/worst scenario, entertaining to read.

I could certainly expand on the worse case scenario - Lacey/Barber go pro, Washington and the twins transfer, Gottfried has a threesome with Anya's girlfriend and Shantel to destroy all remaining team chemistry, Gottfried leaves for another school, it's exposed that we cheated worse than UNC and have to endure severe NCAA penalties, Maryland rejoins the ACC, and Matt Doherty becomes the next mens basketball coach.

Expanding on the best case scenario, a deep run solidifies recruiting for the next few years catapulting us to a perennial top seed and eventual multiple national championships.

We are about to see if this team stands behind what they say. Are they going to be content with knocking off #2 Villanova and play at their normal ability? Or are they going to go out there like this is our first real chance to make a run to the Elite 8/Final Four in 30 years and play like a Final Four team?

If we don't lose anyone to NBA/Injuries/Transfers and only lose Turner, Des Lee and Staats then we should (*knock on wood*) see the best NC State Basketball team we have seen in over 30 years.

Hell these boys have a chance to win it all right now if we continue to improve as we have. Especially if Lacey's shoot percentage stabilizes around .500 where he normally is. He shot .166 and .227 overall against Duke and LSU with one 3 pointer total in those two games (1-11). If we have everyone shooting well and hitting free throws with a lift off the bench from Anya, Des Lee, Washington and the Martin twins I really feel like we could get there. Our defense is pretty solid and we have already figured out how to beat Louisville once, it's the offense you can't control. If we did make it to the finals and had to play Kentucky this would be almost identical to our last National Championship win where we went up against Houston and Phi Slama Jama.

ESPN reseeding list puts us as a 2 seed (suggesting among the top 8 remaining). USA Today ranks us as 13th best team remaining, Washington Post has us at 11, CBSSports at 14, Sporting News at 10.

I think 10 or 11 is most accurate of who we are. I'm pretty shocked how low all of these sites have Oklahoma, and all of a sudden Michigan State is the favorite to win the East.
