green jay, if the heel is wearing down, have you looked into getting the boots repaired instead of buying a new pair? i regularly get my shoes repaired (heels, soles, etc) 10/5/2012 1:22:37 PM |

The Melissa Tall Lace-Ups are $398
Which is why I will probably never have a pair.. lol.
Unless I don't ever buy anything and/or have an awesomely successful garage sale. 10/5/2012 1:55:05 PM |

What shoes would look good with this outfit?
here is a closer look at the top, and the skirt is a dark brown.
Right now the only option I have is a pair of taupe shoes I bought a few weeks ago. Should I go with something brighter instead?

I got my Veronica Slouch boots last month at Belk. They have sales every once in a while. The fall shoe follies sale last month saved me 20% on mine.
They are so purty. And I love how the leather smells. 10/6/2012 3:37:23 PM |

i think you should untuck the top and maybe hit it with a skinny belt 10/6/2012 7:07:36 PM |
CassTheSass cupid 35382 Posts user info edit post |
if you're going to tuck in that top, you need a shorter skirt - something that hits right above the knee. the length of that dress is kind of awkward. 10/6/2012 10:32:13 PM |
elise mainly potato 13090 Posts user info edit post |
The other skirt I have that goes with it is the same length, and the bottom of that shirt flares a bit, but I'll try it with a skinny belt. And yes, those are the shoes. 10/6/2012 10:45:33 PM |
CassTheSass cupid 35382 Posts user info edit post |
maybe it's the flare. you are wearing a billowy top and then a flowy/flare skirt - it's too much volume....at least what i can see from the picture you posted. i think if you did a slimmer skirt that hit to the knee (or even look to get the blouse taken in a bit) it would help balance everything out. 10/6/2012 10:57:39 PM |

Remember that I do have huge hips, and some of the volume might actually be me 10/6/2012 11:00:20 PM |

untuck the blouse, skinnier (non flowy?) and shorter skirt and maybe a brighter shoe if you are going with a dark skirt. 10/6/2012 11:04:50 PM |

blarg, I thought it actually looked good on. It's a completely sheer shirt and I am wearing a fitted cami underneath, and, well, I liked it. I can't buy any more clothes right now so I am stuck with what is in my closet. Weddings cost way more than just the expected costs. Rehearsal dinner outfit, bridal luncheon outfit, bridal shower outfit...if I was any good at being a girl I wouldn't have to construct these outfits from the ground up, but the majority of my wardrobe is t-shirts, jeans, converses, and sandals. 10/6/2012 11:08:54 PM |
jimmypop All American 1405 Posts user info edit post |
maybe the shirt, untucked, with a pair of jeans? Can you take the bow off the shirt? If so maybe a necklace instead. I don't know what you need the outfit for. 10/6/2012 11:14:05 PM |

lol no i don't think it's you - it's mostly the flare at the bottom of the skirt and then the billowy part from where the shirt is tucked. i think the shirt could be really cute belted with a cardigan and jeans.
and i understand how expensive wedding stuff can be. i was dealing with buying last minute stuff while in the middle of an unexpected major bathroom renovation and a broken HVAC
if you like the shirt, then i wouldn't force trying to find something right now that would work. if you think the shirt will be beneficial to your closet, then hold onto it until you can get some pieces that you think will work well with it.

I think that it is hideous.
And that's saying something. For me, usually the uglier the better. But I cannot get behind that.

I like it for beach/pool/boating time. My other bags are a bit stuffy for the pool.
Then again, the wayfarer + neon clothing look is very big at beach/pool/boating parties here in Orlando.

I need suggestions for good nail polish. I recently bought a color from the Sally Hansen express finish line. It was for a wedding that same day, and I just needed something cheap. But I loved the color so much, I used it again a few days later, then a week later. I tried to paint my nails again on Friday and the polish was already gunky.
So my question: Does paying more for polish get a longer life out of it? I want to be able to paint my nails with a bottle more than 3 times if I pay $10-15 for polish. What brands fare the best? 10/8/2012 4:35:03 PM |
dropdeadkate nerdlord 11725 Posts user info edit post |
I have lots of cheap polish that doesn't get like that after only a week. I never buy the expensive stuff b/c I always mess with it and chip it off anyway. I'd just be sure to buy the polish that has the balls in it so you can shake it up before you need to use it. 10/8/2012 4:36:56 PM |
GREEN JAY All American 14180 Posts user info edit post |
i think you should eliminate user error before pointing the finger at the polish itself... any chance the lid wasn't cranked all the way down?
I've got cheap polishes i've used many times and stored for years on end without texture changes. my surprise favorite recently is the wet n wild fast dry. screw paying $15 for one bottle of polish!
you can save gunky nail polish with nail polish thinner (not remover). sephora carries it

I'm sure it was closed after each use. I'm chalking it up to being a pretty small bottle (I think it's already close to empty) and the polish being on the thicker side in the first place.
I've been debating purchasing a bottle of essie, but I think I will stick to the cheaper polishes for now. Thanks! 10/8/2012 4:42:00 PM |

oh i think that is the kind in the triangle bottle right? with the giant application brush? i hate that polish i've tried it a few times and its just a hassle and ends up looking horrible. It pretty much starts out gunky from what I can remember.
try the sally bottles with the jewel on them they're pretty good] 10/8/2012 4:44:58 PM |

depending on how lazy you are (and I am), I use these:
http://sallyhansen.com/products/nails/nail-color/salon-effects-real-nail-polish-strips
though only the sparkly ones are most resistant to wrinkling when applying 10/8/2012 4:52:04 PM |

i'm a big fan of the sally hansen insta dry in the triangle bottle with the big brush, but i have big fingernails, i suppose.
i have flaky nails and have to do the dishes a lot, so i don't choose things based on staying power, just how quickly i can quit prancing around trying to do stuff without touching anything 10/8/2012 4:55:59 PM |

You should also try to avoid shaking it....unless you like random air bubbles on your nails
rolling it between your hands works better 10/8/2012 5:05:08 PM |

i'm sad about my Coach patent leather bag - something seeped into the leather and stained my purse in some weird spots. i contacted Coach to ask them if there was anything i could do and they gave me some stupid blanket answer saying that trying to treat it will ruin the leather 10/11/2012 10:41:57 AM |
