Funny, Ernie.
Hopefully we will get a very good big man who can score in the post. That way, our offense won't be so guard oriented. Because I think its a long shot to think that TDT and/or Vandy will develop into go-to post players. But hey...stranger things have happened.
Oh...and Dominic Woodson is a MAN. He would be a great get if we were to miss on Randle.

guys i'm not trying to be a downer, but you have to start talking about this shit realistically. i can't just sit here and read people talk about how jefferson was just icing on the cake when we're getting ready to totally start over w/ our roster.
and people have to stop saying "nah it'll be fine, we'll be in the middle of the acc". i don't know if you guys have noticed but the acc is dogshit. i want nothing to do w/ the middle of this conference. let's at least have a higher standard for our hopes, come on. 5/17/2012 12:25:32 AM |

i agree that we should obviously want to be real good, all the time. sometimes it doesn't work that way. remember who the worst team was in the ACC from 2006-2011? us. a sweet 16, hopefully a real good year upcoming, and a decent 2013-14 at worst isn't all that bad.
our starting 5 should be pretty solid although not that experienced (we started 1 SR this past year with a couple JRs and 2 SO who were real good, we should have at least 3 SO who are real good that year and hopefully some decent recruits to fill in depth). it may not be a national championship year, but with a solid recruiting class and keeping it in tact it could be the actual foundation for getting us back, for a long time.

Also, MG has created a pretty damn good resume on recruitment abilities, I expect there will be other star-potential players coming through the next few years. Losing this one doesn't discount all the improvements that have been made since Sid got thrown to the curb. 5/17/2012 4:09:54 AM |

Yeah, I'd rather stay above the middle of the conference, but if that becomes our down year I can live with it. I've spent the majority of my life with the middle of the conference being an outstanding year.
That's not even taking into account that we could end up with a solid freshman or two to fill the gaps and make that down year another competitive season. 5/17/2012 6:25:27 AM |

As has already been mentioned, I don't mind our down year being in the middle of the ACC. We were in the middle of the ACC this year and it turned out awesome (was a struggle in the middle of the year...but overall an enjoyable year). We're not going to turn into UNC/Kentucky over night.5/17/2012 7:27:42 AM |

While our bigman depth is concerning, and it definitely sucks that we missed out on amile (and young, and now even that bojo-guy), i don't think we should start freakin-out about the 2013 season just yet, we don't know what the team is going to look like. We'll have 3 (aa) sophomores and a transfer (all-sec rookie team) that we haven't seen yet. We don't know how serviceable vandy and tdt will be in 2012, much less in 2013. we don't know what freshmen mg and company may snag next year. and there's a chance that lorenzo may still be around (and a very small chance that cjl will still be around). But we really need to pick-up a stud big-man in 2013, that's pretty cruicial.

^^I believe there is an ACC league rule that states he would have to sit a year if he went to another ACC school even though it is not a true transfer.

as mentioned earlier, i'm pretty sure there's an acc rule that would require him to sit-out and lose a year of eligibility (if went to another acc school. i could be wrong, but i think that's what tww determined)

You don't even know what we're going to do next year. So how can you even say whatever happens in 13/14 is going to be a step backwards? And pretty much every team except for Kentucky will have down years (if UNC had lost Macadoo, they would have been a borderline tourney team...poor UNC!!!). It's just what happens when kids leave early. We wouldn't regress if CJL and Brown wouldn't go pro early. It's what happens with scholarships. You can plan and try to space them out as much as possible, but that shit happens. You just hope that in your down years you can still make the tourney and hopefully make some noise.5/17/2012 1:31:54 PM |

Eh. They both have upsides. It's whether or not you can coach skill or athleticism that determines if he's a good get in place of Amile. Against Amile, anyone that says Savon is better is moronic. 5/17/2012 1:38:14 PM |

He's definitely not a step down (or not a big one). Still highly rated. Is a little bigger (weight, not height), more athletic, and seems to be more of a post presence/rebounder/defender. We definitely need frontcourt help next year and I think Savon would be a better PF back-up than Amile. Amile would probably be better in the long run, but Savon would be a great addition to the team next year.5/17/2012 1:39:18 PM |

Have we thrown our hat in for Savon THIS year or as a part of the 2013 class? The internet seems to say he's still undecided about prep school. 5/17/2012 1:57:01 PM |

I hope it's just for this year. But if TDT and/or JDV play like shit next year, might as well offer him for next year as well. We've already got some really good bigs on the radar for next year in Randle, Woodson, and Meeks. Randle is a long shot, but the other two are a possibility and would probably lessen our need for Savon. But he would be great to give us depth this year and a year of experience and help space out scholarships for the years after. 5/17/2012 1:59:54 PM |
