I post PI on here just to see people bitch and moan. It's pretty funny. Yes, they're not good journalist. Yes, they perform some hackery. No, I've never given them a dime. But I do get some "info" from there, even if it is hacked. I don't tweet. If you don't like it, don't read it. (although I kinda enjoy reading it, to get a little "info", and for comedy relief)

Almost a day old now, but it's not on here so Dave Telep's recent blog mentions us as a destination for Montrezl Harris.

Quote :
"Now that Harrell is free to weigh his options, five programs are in the mix -- Louisville, Florida, Kentucky, Alabama and NC State.

Outside of Louisville, the curious choice on the list is NC State. The Wolfpack have the most difficult pitch of any team on the list because in order for Harrell to attend NC State, he’d have to sit out a full season because Virginia Tech and NC State are both in the ACC.

As of right now, NC State looks like a long shot because he's not likely to sit out a whole year. Whether he should have to is a discussion for another time."

Also, lol @ this RT by Purvis

I'm surprised we're even in the mix. No way we convince a 4-star kid to basically redshirt a year.

it wouldn't be like redshirting, since he'd actually lose a year of eligibility (unless he wins an appeal)

VT gave him a full unconditional release, right? What legal standing does the ACC have if there is no contract?

^^ The ACC has specific language dealing with released LOIs. He'd need to get some kind of nullification, not just a release.

Along with about a dozen high profile players we're involved with in the 2013 class. Why are so many of you treating Hood as if he was a 2012 recruit? Did I miss him getting a Painter like waiver or something?

Sounds like bust.

Gottfried & Co really struck out this spring. It should be interesting to see the staff try to fill 7 scholarships over the next year.

yeah, not sure if i'd use the term "struck out", when they already had 3 AAs signed before the Spring (and they got turner during the spring).

Quote :
"Each day this week, Evan Daniels will break down one of his top five recruiting classes. Up first: North Carolina State, coming in at No. 5 overall.

After five seasons without an NCAA tournament appearance under Sidney Lowe, North Carolina State returned to the Big Dance in 2012 under first-year head coach Mark Gottfried, who joined the Wolfpack after 11 seasons at Alabama. NC State made it all the way to the Sweet 16, where they nearly upset Kansas. Now they're reloaded and ready for another run in 2012-13. Evan Daniels breaks down their class. Sign up now to join the NC State community.

NC State last season: 24-13 overall, 9-7 in ACC, lost to Kansas in Sweet 16 of NCAA tournament.

Scout.com class rank: 5

Full recruiting class: Rodney Purvis, SG; T.J. Warren, SF; Tyler Lewis, PG

Best player of the class: Ranked No. 18 overall in the 2012 class, Purvis is the top rated recruit in North Carolina State’s class. At 6-foot-5, Purvis is a strong, physical guard that is at his best attacking the rim basket in transition. He should help Mark Gottfried’s bunch out of the gate with his ability to put up points.

The one that got away: Amile Jefferson, PF. In a battle with Duke, North Carolina State was close with Jefferson, a five-star prospect, but in the end couldn’t seal the deal. Jefferson ended up at Duke after a long, drawn-out recruiting process. NC STATE'S CLASS
Click on the photos to learn more about NC State's commits.

Rodney Purvis

T.J. Warren

Tyler Lewis

What to expect from them next year: With the addition of Purvis and Warren, North Carolina State is adding a pair of prospects that can put up points in a hurry. While Purvis is great in transition and going to the rim, Warren is a well-balanced scorer that can pump in points from all three levels. Lewis, a 5-foot-11 lead guard, will find a role as Lorenzo Brown’s back-up next season.

Will live up to the hype because ...: Based on North Carolina State’s roster they have a serious need for wing scorers. Well, Purvis and Warren fit that billing and should have an opportunity to help right away.

Won't live up to the hype because ...: Will there be enough shots to go around? The need for points from the wing is there, but will they be split between Purvis and Warren? Can they coexist?

In their words ...: "They were at every single one of my games. That stood out to me. If coach Gottfried couldn't be there he would have two guys from the staff there. That right there let me know how much they wanted me." -- Rodney Purvis

"I feel like they are on the come-up. I just want to go in there and help bring the excitement back to Raleigh, N.C." -- T.J. Warren

"I felt like they wanted me there, and that was big. Coach Gottfried said he likes my basketball IQ, how I can lead a team, my passing ability, things like that. Overall I just got a good feel for what they expect of me." -- Tyler Lewis "

I rather get a raw 7 footer out of europe. Even if they are worse than Vandy it makes practice more difficult and prepares us for playing against height which seems to be our biggest problem.

Then there is the chance they could actually develop into a role player.

1)He hasn't decided whether to prep next year or go straight to college
2)His coach said he's a better compliment to TJ Warren than Amile Jefferson because Warren and Jefferson are very similar players, while Goodman is more of a physical, low-post banger type.
3)Gottfried told Moxley to go all out recruiting Goodman or something to that effect.

Yes, its good to have more than half of your teams scholarships open at one time.

I mean we really only need five players.

Personally, i'd rather we had a roster with 11-13 available players on it than one with 9 scholarship guys who can play. That way, if we have 3 injuries to backcourt players the way UNC did last year, we aren't starting Staats Battle.

I shouldn't have said that Gott "struck out" this spring. He got 1 guy, Ralston Turner. But he swung for the fences with Amile, and missed. That happens. I'm just stating the obvious, that we now have a whole lot of roster positions to fill if we want to field a team in 13-14. Our scholarship spacing isn't exactly what you would call "ideal".

We're losing Wood and Howell, and probably Leslie, and maybe Brown, maybe.
We'll have 6 scholarship guys returning at a minimum (including Turner), 8 at max.
With all the open scholarships, I'm hoping Gott & co. will be able to pull in at least 2 or 3 solid players in 2013, and we should be fine. I hope.

yeah, i'm pretty sure this is the most talent that's been on the team since i've been paying attention (well, i was around in '83, but i couldn't tell you who was on the team beyond the starters).

it's really going to be tough losing wood, howell, probably leslie and maybe brown in 2013. and as of now, we don't have any big-man depth at all in 2013 (and questionable starters). but we should be able to get a few solid freshmen, and i'm hoping it's not quite as bad as some are making it out to be.

2013 definitely does not look as promising as this upcoming year but let's worry about that when it gets here and enjoy this season of hopefully beating UNC (twice) for the first time in a while.

saying 2013 doesn't look as promising is a pretty big understatement.

so far we have 5 guys on scholarship for then (because if brown plays as well this year as he did last year, HE GONE)

we'll have 6, even if brown leaves (turner), and i'm thinking that brown stays if he doesn't improve, but he probably will improve. but he still might stay.

and by having so many open schollies, we probably won't be stingy and will offer a lot of guys, and hopefully pick-up several solid players, hopefully a true "center", or a big PF.
