So if Tampa and the Rangers win at least one, we're hosed.

and now the stanly cup champs flags have to come down, the former whalers are no longer that

Who will the Canes target in free agency? are they going to go after the big names (datsyuk?) or role players? Is Eric Staal going to step it up like he's supposed to? So many questions.

Didn't someone just make a thread about trolls in ST... hmm....

That aside, pretty disappointing, but maybe this will get heads leveled out up top and we'll get some renegotiated deals and good trades. And maybe health? Please?

-addressing the troll issue, if you look, i've been "trolling" since 2000, three years before you, so go away n00b.

-addressing the former whalers, yes, the devils did not make the playoffs the first year of defending their title. what they did do is win 2 more in less than a decade. the former whalers have a lot to do in order to match that. they'll be lucky to even finish 10th in the standings this year.

rick flair has saggy man boobs, and the former whalers stoped overachieving

I've never seen a flash in the pan in pro sports because you have seven game series and that kind of eliminates flukes. Kind of hard to get reallly lucky for 16 games as opposed to 4 or 5 in the non series sports. Then again, maybe not since we did play the worst team in the playoffs for the finals but we beat buffaloe and most of all

We had 112 frigging points last season!!! how could you flash the pan and get 112 poitns? If there was a flash in the pan they were almost always low seeds.

It seems like there was so much promise to the future with pretty much everbody coming back from a taem that won it all with two superstar rookies. I was thinking dynasty.

I only watch playoffs in pro sports with a few big game exceptions (way too many games with low meaning per game) Pretty much sum up the season on a whole for those who didn't watch the games? How did we come into late march like this?

Did cam ward keep playing like the playoffs or did he go to a pregerber time? bust?

Did we have trouble scoring goals? Penalty kill? PP?

What happened to stillman?

the devils finished 9th in '95-96. the canes are right on track if we're using the devils as a guidepost.

the stevens hit effectively ended ron francis' career? hardly. francis averaged 71.92 points per year and got 77 the year after the hit.

anyway, that no-call on the penalty shot is bullshit

^^^ Ward was inconsistent most of the year, made beautiful saves at times but would then let easy things through. PP sucked ass. Stillman has only been so-so after coming back from shoulder surgery mid-season.

wtf does pregerber time mean?

also, it is impossible for a goaltender to be a bust until at least his 30th birthday

cam is pretty comparable to brodeur... the canes are not comparable to the devils

our defense and minus the left wing lock sort of make that evident

the question is, for me, do the canes make midmajor moves in the offseason or keep what they have and go to the shitter?

bright spots: staal, whitney, williams, brindy, ward, commodore, wallin, laviolette

dark spots: the rest

I agree with Mattallica...although he's only got 11 goals and nine assists, the garbage man is on his way to being a successful power forward, though more in the Espo mold, which is fine with me.

Larose is a relative bright spot...always good for energy, never makes mistakes and has sextupled his goal output.

Commodore plays great defense half the time but the other half of the time he takes the dumbest fucking penalties on earth. Erik Cole is similarly frustrating in his duality: he's the best player on the ice and an absolute force when he wants to be, but he only wants to be once every six or seven games.

Gleason is a gamer, but I do worry about him being a little on the fragile side (injury-wise, not toughness).

Once Grahame settled in, I had no problems with his play, but I also don't think he's necessarily the right kind of backup for Ward right now. Cam needs an older, more experienced guy (Osgood, Lalime) to give him the kinds of advice that even Greg Stefan can't provide on a daily basis.

Walker is also quality. Our contract concerns are Ward/Whitney/Walker.

A big part of me hopes Wesley stays for one more year. He's nothing but solid (team-leading +11) and he's cheap. With Hedican likely retiring and the possibility of signing a top pair d-man very small, Wesley is a big part of the Canes' defensive committee.
