yeah i know.but he was responding to my post where i talked about maryland being able to compete with duke and unc. he tried to call me out for saying that i too want ncsu to compete with unc and duke and that maryland can do it and so it really isn't such an impossible task to ask. and then i went on to say that maryland also won a national championship which goes to say that it's possible to compete with unc and duke as well as in the ncaa tourney (which herb never did and so i'm glad we took the risk to try to find someone who can do both). i'm not giving up on lowe now though (although he hasn't showed much yet) and i'm upset that we have a fool (fowler) making these hires, but i'm glad that enough people with the program wanted herb out of here and were willing to take the risk to take this program to the next level

No matter what, a team should not (barring continual injuries, not just one here or there), should not become progressively worse over the course of the season and that has what Sydney has done for this team.

It's almost as if he thinks that the assistants should do everything and the assistants think that they can keep doing what they were doing at whatever shitty d-1aa team that were at before and not adjust for a huge step up in competition.

The whole staff is one big failure to operate and outside of Larry Harris, they should get canned.

^Ha. Good thing you're not an AD.

Let me clarify. They suck and they need to know that they suck. They're embarrassing him, so he can embarrass them. None of us knows what goes on in practice, so it's hard for me to criticize either. But I find it hard to believe Sid is telling these guys to not box out, to dribble off their feet, flail wildly on our limited fast break opportunities.

They've played like shit and someone needs to call them on it. Maybe not quite as publicly as this, but it still needs to be done.

^ It's a good thing you have no idea what you are talking about.

What have the assistants accomplished this year besides making the team worse? It's obvious there was no off season training, it's obvious that Monte Towe doesn't know how to evaluate talent. Whatever, I don't care anymore. NCSU is destined to always suck and that is the way of the world.

Oh and there's this, if we finish on a nine-game losing streak that will match the longest in the history of the program, which came in 1991-92 under Les. At least we ended that one with a win at Carolina.

You cited he has beaten Duke/UNC 5 out of the last 8 times. Now unless I'm mistaken that can't be over any more than the last 3 years. 2 of which he didn't make the tournament at all. I'd hardly call what Maryland has done the last 5 years as "competing with UNC and Duke." I'd call it getting up for 4 games a year and underperforming the rest of the time...

I'd rather actually be in the NCAA's consistently and get to the Sweet 16 consistently, as UNC and Duke do...

Actually the funny thing with Maryland is right now they are Georgetown's NC State. They are losign every recruiting battle with G'Town. G'Town is becoming a national force while Maryland is laboring in mediocrity...

Just to be fair, here is the first few seasons Coach K had at Duke. they were calling for his head in Durham after three bad years. He was coaching at Duke, just down the road from Dean Smith a coaching legend and a rockstar, Valvano, both of whom were winning championships. this is much the same situation we are in. I'm not saying Lowe is the next K, but it takes time.

Things have changed a lot in the last 25 years though (No Internet, No ESPN, etc). If Sidney does this next year he's out of time.

Without doing any research didn't K have a pretty decent first year with the returning talent from the previous coach but then had EVERYONE leave? Getting Dawkins was really the biggest thing he did. That one recruiting class completely changed ACC history. John Wall?

As far as Sidney getting talent. I disagree with you to a point. We had loads of talent (Fells and Costner were both Top 50 recruits and played GREAT at times last year) but we didn't have experience... which is equally important IMO... I think he should have said the "foundation" was already in place, not the talent.

Yes, Coach K sucked for 3 years then got really really good. I guess this means that Lowe is the next Coach K

Honestly, can you people stop bringing up this retarded argument? What happened with K never happens. Most of the time, when a coach starts out terrible, he continues to suck and never gets better. He continues making the same mistakes over and over again and never learns

I can't believe some of you are seriously arguing that we keep Lowe around for the unlikely possibility that this happens. Do you see NFL teams who need a QB waiting until the 7th round of the draft hoping they'll get the next Tom Brady? No, and you know why? Because Tom Brady coming out of the 7th round was the biggest fucking fluke in the history of the league, just like K becoming a hall of famer after 3 seasons of suck.

Look, there are some legitimate arguments to keeping Lowe around, but this is not one of them. It's borderline lunacy and makes you all look like idiots.

The point isn't that Lowe is the next K

The point is that even the greatest have to get thier players they need for their system.

Billy Gillispie is another example of this.

Granted, we shouldn't be this bad, but I'm witholding judgement for a few years. We do have issues, though, no doubt

I really love how it's all the coach's fault. Players have absolutely nothing to do with it. Nope. Uh uh. Coach is missing shots. Coach can't dribble. Coach can't rebound. Coach this, coach that. I'm on the Fire Lowe bandwagon now. You guys have me convinced.

That's fine, and I agree with that. But turn it around to what? Turn a 4-12 team into a 12-4 team and set us up for a deep run into the NCAAs every year? That's what we hired him for after all, because we were tired of mediocrity.

I think at this point, after our lack of improvement and the rapid descent we've seen this year, you'd have to be crazy to think the chances are good that Lowe peaks beyond mediocre. I'm just being realistic here.

Give him one, two, even three more years, that's fine with me. My fear in getting rid of Herb was that I didn't think we could get anyone better, and it's the same case here. Keep him around until a quality coaching candidate appears that we're sure will want the job.

TOB said the same thing to the media, maybe not as harsh a language as 'awful' but he said from the beginning 'we're just not a good football team'

of course TOB was saying that from damn near the beginning of the season and making improvements

I've never seen a team 'unimprove' over a season like this one has

That's what all the good coaches do

"

Tom O'Brien after getting slaughtered by Clemson:

"We got overwhelmed. We needed to control the line of scrimmage, and we couldn't. We couldn't get first downs or third down conversions. We couldn't stop them on their third downs. When you get beat, you get beat, and we got beat solidly."

"They wore us down and wore us out. We couldn't stop them."

"They dominated us at the line of scrimmage. That was the story of the game."

"It's hard to have positives when you get beat like this."

"We're not a very good football team. It's pretty obvious after today."

"They could have done whatever they wanted to do today."

I like how TOB doesn't sugarcoat anything. He let the team know they suck ass. Also, after the UCF game he said something like a lot of these guy aren't as good as they think.

this is true.

but i mean, the biggest problem (by a lot) is that they're not playing hard. that is the coaching staff's fault, but what's he going to say? "i'm not good enough at getting these kids to want to play"?

what's bad is according to Marques, Sidney gave the team some kind of a pep talk before the game about breaking this losing streak and going strong into the ACC Tournament, and look at the results

what I thought was very interesting was that Marques actually apologized to the fans and acts as clueless as the rest of us as to why we're so bad..............

Coach puts the players who can't do all of those things on the floor.

Coach is ultimately to blame.

There's talent on this team and saying otherwise is ridiculous. When Atsur was out last year we weren't god awful. We were maybe a hint above mediocre, but we sure as hell weren't this bad.

I have a new offense for your team. Grant, you never leave the opposing teams basket. Just stand there. Let our guys play a 4 man box on defense. As soon as they shoot, Hixon, Ben Mc, fight for rebounds while Fergy or Fells stand out of bounds or around mid court. If they make the basket, immediately grab the ball and chunk it down to either grant at the other end or to the guy at half court.

Do this the entire game.

Lowe had a few good quotes in the Technician today, saying how he did everything he could for the team...stuff like 'The coach can't make the basket' or 'The coach can't get down the court to defend the basket'.

They note that when addressed directly about Coaching, Sidney places the blame on the players. If this is true and an accurate reflection of what this man believes to be true in his head, then there is no hope for NCSU this year or any other year that he is the head coach. If he can't realize how awfukl of a coach he is and man up, then how can he ever improve?

If these quotes are indeed indicative of Lowe's mind, then there is no other option but to hope that he quits or that he gets fired along with Lee Fowler in the coming offseason.

Kentucky in Tubby's last few years were not much better than Herb's last few years and yet in his first year he has them 10-3 in the SEC and beat Tennessee and are likely playing their way into the NCAA tournament. Have you seen how much that team has IMPROVED this year? Do not compare Sidney to him. Gillispie has a proven track record and has turned several programs around UTEP, A&M, now UK.
