I was looking over the commitment list at rivals and apparently Mageo has already signed his LOI. Looks like the JuCo signing period started December 17th. Good to know "The Alien", as I will now refer to him and hope everyone else will, is in the fold.

For clarification, I call him "The Alien" because his junior college is in Roswell, New Mexico. Not for any other reason.

dude is big time, that's what happened. in other words, he has narrowed his list to fla, lsu, and maybe another power program. I could be wrong but it's something like that.

^NC sure has given Florida some good ones over the years:

Chris Leak, Brandon Spikes, Carl Johnson, (possibly Xavier)

Can't say i blame them though. If UF wins the title this year, all three of those first names will have won National Championships at UF. Before you blame guys leaving NC for UF........just think about that

Nixon has been solid to UF for months.... throw it in the "ESPYS thread".

The best player on his high school team is coming to NC State though.

I'd bet that our former associate head coach and the best recruiter we had during the Amato era has something to do with that.

Wow. I hope our recruiting never ends up like these programs. I'm fine with players taking a prospect to a house party that their friends are having, but wow at the party in Dallas and the SC players with the stretch Hummer limousine. Also all of the people offering gifts and money to the family to choose Texas. I know we joke about stuff like that, but I really hope our programs are clean, which I think they are. I especially like how Russell Wilson has said that when he's hosting a recruit he doesn't take them to wild parties. He might not take them to the places that they want to be at that time, but he takes them to the places where they need to be to meet the right kind of people.

I just don't see our program being that dirty with TOB at the helm, he's pretty conservative and seems like he'd be a by-the-books kind of guy.

Now I'm sure CTC use to do it all the time, that wouldn't have surprised me since he learned all of his tricks of the trade from Bowden. I mean I'm not sure about our football program doing anything dirty, I know our basketball program has recently come under fire with suspicion.

It's tough to think many questionable things are going on behind the scenes when you're not bringing in top 25 classes after all.

I cant help but feel like beating Rutgers will help us land the likes of Watson and keep guys like Byrd solidly committed.

is there any chance we still land any surprise commits not yet accounted for on the offer list?

I agree that it will probably help us with watson. I just don't think anything is going to help us keep byrd. I think the only reason he hasn't withdrawn his verbal yet is because he wants to make it appear that he is making a tough decision when in fact his decision is made. I hope I'm wrong.

Jairus Jones could be another guy we take. We won't take anymore o-linemen if all of them appear like they will qualify. Wentz will definitely qualify. I think I read that he has a 3.9 GPA. When Wentz and Christophe were on their OVs they were told that there were only 2 o-linemen spots left. I think we would definitely take Watson and possibly another D-line commitment.

Overall I think we have a nice class. It's not exactly star studded, but this class is filled with solid football players that play smart. This kind of class will provide consistency throughout the program.

I am really liking our class, think TOB found some very underrated players and I think the recent moving of 2 guys that we found that were 2-stars up to 4-stars just goes to show this. I don't think they were the only diamonds either. Rashard Smith, 2-star CB on Scout, was just named the 2-AA Defensive Player of the Year for the SECOND straight year in Georgia after notching 10 interceptions in 2 straight seasons. I'm sorry, with accolades like that and stats like that, I hardly believe he is really only of 2-star quality.

After last year's big names, this years quality depth, and next year shaping up to be another big haul, I really think we're setting a course for a quality program that can contend each and every year.

^dude, the truth of it is that the recruiting "scouts" and "gurus" look just as much at physical ability and combines as they do at what happens on the field. Once again, i'll give the PRIME example of Greg Little.

Greg Little did nothing really of consequence on the football field besides look pretty in a uniform. Ok, thats taking it a little far.....physically, he was a man among boys on the high school football field, so he made a few plays, but where his stock REALLY rose was at the combine. All the oooo's and ahhhh's of a 6'3 220lb HS kid thats ripped beyond belief. Thats great and all, but is the kid a football player??

NO. Therefore his 4* ranking flies out the window and you're left with a 4* kid who looks good, but has no position and really, can't do anything for you on the football field. Butch is loading up with them again this year, and i applaud him for it.

7 OL commits in 3 years butch.......................good luck son

^^I don't think Smith has been evaluated. A video i saw on him made him look to be one of the guys who will become a legend for his HS, and a SOLID player for us in the future. I'm really excited about getting him on campus.

Little is a poor example. He's a solid football player who has been moved around his first two seasons to help fill some of our voids because he is such a versatile athlete. He had 500 yards rushing/receiving and 3 TDs this season as a sophomore playing behind upperclassmen like Nicks, Tate, and Foster and played very well in the final two games of the season when both Tate and Foster were out with injury. I bet Little has over 1000 total yards next season now that he'll finally be a starter. There's a reason guys like Pete Carroll, Jim Tressel, and Urban Meyer offered this kid.

We'll be adding at least two more OL by signing day, maybe more. Bond and Brennan Williams are the most likely. So 9 over 3 years.

I'm pretty sure we already had some OL on the roster when Butch came in. OL wasn't an immediate need then but Butch is showing that he can recruit top OL talent now that he needs to. We will probably bring in 5 OL in this class. He is not ignoring the OL as you say.

Again, he played behind several talented upperclassmen but will have his time to shine next year. I guess we'll see what happens when he can devote full spring and fall practices to the WR position.

dude, check your tarheel pride at the door

little was committed to notre dame to play LB, where he honestly (given decent coaching) would probably dominate.

he only went to UNC when butch offered him to play RB. you know where he's not playing anymore? RB. he's a freak of an athlete but seriously lacks the vision to play in the backfield.

I was not sure where to put this (here or Bowl games thread) but look at Utah's recruiting class rankings since 2004.

2004 - 68
2005 - 71
2006 - 60
2007 - 66
2008 - 65

Fucking amazing what these guys did this year.
