Didn't they design the game with the intent to severely throttle back the rate at which decent gear dropped to all but force people that wanted to compete in the harder difficulties to buy their gear (of which they get a cut) from the AH? I thought that was their new business model.

Heck, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that some of the best items never drop in the game at all - items just get introduced for the first time in the AH and Blizz now has a money printing machine.

i didnt read all press releases, so it is entirely possible. that said, without insane gear we finished act1 with our group of 4 and started act2. only one of us actually uses the AH i think and he's had a worse run of luck with gear drops.

again im at 200ish resists, 35-40k hp, and anywhere from 5-8kdps (can jump to about 24k in berserker form). it isn't easy going, particularly with my low dps, but a lot of it is doable. i certainly can't chain far NV stacks like other ppl can, but we did make it through.

prices on the RMAH are crazy. So many weapons on sale for 250 bucks.

Hardcore may be the only 'real' way to play this game with only a gold AH and actual consequences for dying.

My plan will be just an extension of what i do now. I put every level 60 yellow on the gold auction house today, and just break it down for mats if it doesnt sell.

Now i will put them on the RMAH first, then the gold AH, then salvage them.

Haha, no sooner than I mention my ~45 minute runs and I get the terribad desecration/fast/vortex fallen group in my game that seemed to follow me across the map. The run was still around an hour, but damn those guys suck.

And let me be clear. I don't exactly consider my playstyle "cruising". I heard horror stories going into Act 2 about getting roughed up by trash and unable to kill any champ packs, so I was pleased with killing most packs with 1-2 deaths before enrage timer (its gotten better since then, but not for all packs).

As per living, most mobs probably 2-3 shot me (some just suck though). Of course Spirit Vessel helps here. The Templar also charges to my aid and heals me for a ton the first time I take some decent dmg. Not sure what that CD is, but he feels like a healer . Also, I used to chug a TON of potions. I don't drink as many now as I used to, but I bet its more than most people.

FYI I saw an interesting discussion on Splinters vs Flaming Dart. While Splinters has more total dmg for all 3, Flaming Dart might have shorter cast than Splinters and therefore might be better total DPS wise (more mobs might also be poison resist?). The thing I like about them, though, is that each of the 3 has the chance for pushback. With high IAS, it really makes a difference. I've debated on trying Chance on Hit items or Life on Hit, but I'd prefer to get a weapon that doesn't suck.

Currently using a ~900 DPS 2hnd that's actually fairly slow on its own (1.2?). I really need to get a knife to go with the decent mojo that I have.

I go with the mana spiders. They auto seek out targets & slow them down. Better mana regen than the dart version. Dire Bats are my main dps -- cheap, powerful, long range -- love it. Soul siphon + Spirit Walk to regen health and mana. Spirit Vessel is a must, not a fan of VQ. I use the other 2 mana regen+reduce passives

So for any melee types in Inferno, how much life on hit is appropriate for the later acts? I'm slogging through Act 3 without it, but I'm getting to a point where I think I need it to survive. I'm a dual-wielding monk, with mantra of evasion I'm at about 55% dodge, 68.5% reduction from armor, 71% reduction from 734 all resists, 45K life with the enchantress and 26K damage. I got some boots with +12000 to health globes, but I think I also need to grab some life on hit as a more reliable source of replenishment. I can manage trash packs but rare and elite packs in Act 3 are really doing a number on me unless I get a lucky affix/mob combo.

Decided to say fuck it and sold several pieces of my gear for 160$. Still have a few more listed, should be around 250$ by the time it all sells. Going out of town for the next few days and once i get back and the AH has settled I'll either reinvest or just quit.

Really though - the RMAH is the best thing they could've done. Gold was worthless as a currency due to ridiculous inflation as there are no gold sinks. The RMAH having a cap of 250$ means eventually only the very very best items will be 250$, everything else will settle at lower prices. It will create stability and allow the game to actually have a working economy. Only problem is the unit of currency is a real dollar, so that will have its own issues.

Blizzard doesn't charge 15%.

It was a 35$ sale, and 1$ transaction fee which I think went to Blizzard and then a 15% transfer fee.

But I think that is because I'm having it transferred to paypal. I think if I kept it as "blizzard credits" or whatever there would have just been a $1 charge. No idea who makes that 15% if it is paypal or Blizzard.

There are people that are going to make a few dollars off this stupid thing this week.

when my 19% poison stack dex string drops off the ah ima relist it for 250 ... i had it up for 100 but there's so many strings on the ah no one's ever going to look through them to find it.

I am REALLY beginning to feel that hardcore is the only way to truly play this game.

I have no problem with the RMAH and think its quite a cool concept. But my softcore characters just feel... eh. They don't really feel like anything.

I am sure this will change once I get out of nightmare with my hardcore toons and have to reroll one, but for now softcore feels like bowling with the bumpers up.
