Id like to do a side bar tangent for a moment about Nu Metal. Let me first be clear, I fucking hate Nu Metal. I think no finer satire has ever been done about Nu Metal than the "Metalocalypse" episode about the Nu Metal band. That shit was funny as fuck.

I hate rap, i hate hip hop, so any combination of rap/rock or rap/metal was bound to be rancid shit. A turn table has no fucking place in a metal band. There is nothing worse than a band made up of a bunch of wiggers "rap rocking". Bands I consider Nu Metal are: Limp Dick, Linkin Park, Korn, RATM, Pappa Roach, Staind etc. They all suck in my opinion.

However, I do feel that the Nu Metal label has been given to certain bands who dont really fit the criteria which I think defines Nu, they just happened to come around during that particular time. Like the Alternative Metal label is often mistaken for Nu, which is unfortunate because there are decent Alt Metal bands. To me Alt Metal is more like a grunge/metal hybrid, but doesnt usually have the shit elements of Nu Metal. But, some bands were labeled Nu Metal just because of the time they happened to come out. The two best examples I can think of are "Godsmack" and "Disturbed". Im not a huge fan of these bands, except in a nostalgia guilty pleasure sense, but I dont think they fit the Nu Metal label they are sometimes given. Other bands in this situation as well.

Really though, Im not big on overly labeling and sub-genre'ing every metal band, because there are two many to really count. The larger distinct genres maybe, but I tend to view a band on whether they suck or not based on the music not the genre. My exception to this is any band that is blatantly Nu Metal, they can all die. Im glad that fad has pretty much passed.

Just my $0.02, thoughts comments?

Hey AstralAdvent, thanks for the recommendations, man. It inspired me to check a lot of new stuff out, and I ended up ordering a bunch of new tunes. I'm really feeling the Nebura Bunget and got two of their albums, found a Bloody Panda CD + DVD for $4, and also got some Woods of Ypres, Lord Vicar (new project from one of the Reverend Bizarre guys), and Crowned In Earth.
