dude, LSU is only the 5th team to lose at least 5 games the year after winning it all since the 1930's and the first since Georgi Tech did in 1991...so yeah, this has been a huge fall off, one that is only seen less than once a decade

Vandy's not a doormat? are you sure? because they lost to the worst fucking team in the ACC this year...you've become a caricature of yourself

"Vandy's not a doormat?"

you dont think Vandy had made significant strides? do you watch football or just Sportscenter? cause you might not see Vandy on there much so I could understand your stupid opinion... Vandy didnt go to a bowl in 25+ years = doormat. Vandy is going to a bowl this year = not as bad as before. Yes they lost to Duke, but that doesnt mean the team/program itself hasnt improved over what has been there before... you LOVE taking one game and the end all/be all final proof. I PROMISE you that if you take every god damn expert in the country and asked them "Is Vandy overall a doormat like they have been the last 25 years or have they made big strides?" they would agree with me

They are going to a bowl game, which they haven't in forever
They beat at least 4, maybe 5 bowl teams
They beat two teams who at the time were in the Top 25

thats not stunning or amazing, but its also nowhere NEAR comparable to what Vandy has been over the last 20 years, but they dont show many Vandy highlights so I guess your buddy Stew Scott hasnt been able to tell you what to think.

I even know what your comebacks will be: " but but but Jaybee, one of those top 25 team is auburn, who isnt even ranked now!" Doesnt matter, at the time they played them, they were... one factor that goes into Auburn not being ranked is that they lost that game.

I dont consider NC State a doormat and Vandy will have at least the same if not better record than them in a much much harder conference

Are they great? nope. Good? nope. But are they as bad as they had previously been? nope

To summarize his point.

Fact: You qualify Vandy as no longer a doormat in the SEC.
Fact: Duke beat Vandy at home.
Fact: Duke is still the doormat of the ACC.

Obviously, this is not enough data to draw generalized conclusions about conferences or teams. But it is true that the facts loosely support one of the following two conclusions, not both.

Conclusion #1: Vandy is still the doormat of the SEC.
Conclusion #2: Vandy is better than several teams in the SEC and got beat at home by the worst ACC team. So, the SEC is not as dominant as everyone thought at the beginning of the season.

goalielax is pointing out that you contradict yourself in saying that Vandy is no longer a doormat but still ascert that the SEC is really good this year. This conclusion is not supported by the facts mentioned above.

I'm just trying to clarify things. Goalielax can speak for himself if I put words in his mouth.

no... I never said they were or were not the "doormat of the SEC", which you are taking to mean the worse team in the SEC. I dont think they are, but even if they were, it would still be possible to not be a doormat overall.

Doormat means you are going to beat them 95% of the time and dont even have to really worry about them... Vandy is no longer that

Thats ONE game... if anything it shows that Duke has improved some. Duke beating Vandy doesnt = oh shit, the SEC sucks!, just like if Vandy had beat Duke it wouldnt = ah, see! there you go! SEC dominance is still there!

that is just fucking retarded. So anytime a conference has a team that used to suck but improves to be an average team that means that the conference is no longer any good??? makes no sense

I'm so much more worried about GT's potential with Johnson than I am UNC's with Davis.

I think they are likely to dominate the ACC very soon.

I wouldn't mind USC getting in because they would lose anyway.

awesome win for the pack today! I hope that they get to the congressional bowl. i know most here don't but I'd love a NCSU vs. Navy game and I think NCSU would win (as much as it pains me to say that right now).

it's a travesty that Virginia Tech is going to the ACC title game...talk about getting a gift from scheduling and getting georgia tech 3 games into the season. of course, GT screwed themselves with the egg they laid at UNC a few weeks ago

I just want to LOL at all the people who said the TO would never work in a big time conference...that PJ couldn't make his offense work with all that "speed" on defense

where were those awesome SEC defenses in the GT and Clemson games today, Jaybee1200?

I had no doubt that Clemson and GT would give South Carolina and Georgia problems today, not a big surprise. Clemson has underachieved all year and is finally bringing it together where it should be, and I assumed Georgia would have problems with a weird offense and a totally hyped up GT team

^^ whats confusing? If Clemson played this year like they were supposed to they would have a top 5-10 offense in the country, but they hadn't... ever since Tommy left they have steadily improved, so with a big rivalry game I figured this would be their best performance of the year. And 4 INTs by Smelley didnt help any... I think Clemson had one drive that had to start inside their own 40 that they scored on...

look, the SEC has without a doubt developed, at some point, big names in 11 out 12 of its programs... so if i ever had to blindly say who is the strongest conference, i would yell SEC

but when i actually sit and watch some of these teams play, i agree with outside of florida and bama this year it is just not cutting everything

dude, you're so wrapped up in the past 7 years, you can't see what's happening right in front of your face. this isn't about LSU last year or Florida a couple of years ago. they might have talent on paper, but that a couple of bucks will get you a cup of coffee. this is about this year, and outside of Florida and Bama, the SEC is for shit this year.

think about it, the marquee win in out of conference games this year is Bama over Clemson in the first week of the season...the same clemson team that just became bowl eligible in the final week of the season (by beating a SEC team no less)

now, the UF win would become the marquee win if they continue the beating of FSU, but still, outside of UF and Bama, the other 10 teams in the SEC haven't done shit this year for what they have on paper (other than beat up other SEC teams)

again, as always this isn't about trying to say any conference is better or any of that shit, this is simply arguing with you about the dominance of the SEC...it's just not there THIS YEAR

NFL talent is probably a terrible way to judge a conference.

The ACC has had awesome NFL talent over the past decade, it hasn't been that great.

^^ ok, let me put it this way, I dont see there being any team that you could pick up, place in the SEC, and they would have an easier season. The Big 12 is really good this year, but thats mainly due to great QBs, but there are some god awful defenses in the the Big 12, really really bad defeneses.

2+2=4 is also predictable, doesn't make it wrong. You really hate the SEC for some reason. And you were saying all this same shit last year too, and the year before, so dont give me that "this year" shit
