The zombie wallpaper was actually developed by an NCSU CSC student/grad. I just found a Matrix one last night that I really like too. I also have been playing the hell out of this 3D Baseball game that I found, simple but really fun.

Installed CM 5.0.7.1 with Launcher Pro and everything is smooth and fast. Launcher Pro is probably the quickest to open and scroll that I've seen. Also has a feature similar to leap on the new SenseUI devices where it'll display thumbnails of all of the screens by pinching or hitting the home button. Looks like wireless tether is screwed up though.

Do you guys suggest rooting android? I've got a Droid and would like to play around with it, but I'm not sure if I want to root it just yet.

What benefits do you get from rooting it, aside from installing some apps that require root access?

I'm a fairly proficient linux user, but I dont see what benefits I would have by having access to the cmd line, other than maybe killing services that dont need to be running, but there are apps that do that anyway.

just get the official one. i had it a couple factory resets ago, didn't really see the point in keeping it since I have motoblur, just something to further drain my battery. it's solid. when I wanna check facebook on the go though I just use the browser.

I hate FB, but isnt it true that only the official one syncs with your contacts?

Launcher Pro + Swype + Cyanogen = one hell of an android phone.

Main reasons to root for me is not the apps (though that is a reason), but the custom ROMs. Developers have tweaked Android and made things just overall better. My G1 would be a dinosaur if it wasnt for Cyanogen and SetCPU.

UPDATE LAUNCHER PRO!

For those with LP, be sure and update... you can now long press and customize the 4 buttons at the bottom of the launcher. The best launcher just got a lot better.

SenseUI has it's own facebook integration.

Anyone running the new CM and having higher than normal temps when charging? Had it in the car mount charging and the temperature alert in setCPU went off. Took it out and sat it in the shade in the passenger seat and it was still running around 129deg F plugged in. Unplugged it, turned the A/C wide open and held the phone in front of it for a while and it cooled off to about 70 and haven't had any problems as long as it isn't charging. Tried the P3 and bekit kernels and both are running hot when charging.

So I picked up that Scanner Radio app yesterday but it seems like droid is killing the audio stream if the phone sits idle for ~10 mins. Is there not some way to keep it alive like with Pandora so that I could just leave it running for a good while? The app has a sleep timer like it's supposed to stay on but I've had it cut out several times from what appears inactivity.

so I got the iTune fm transmitter so I could listen to Pandora in the car and its by far the best fm transmitter I've used in case anyone is looking for one. Definitely better than the one I have for the iPod.

hey guys I just picked up a couple palm pre car chargers that were on clearance for 9.99 at radio shack. micro usb cable + dc - usb converter and a microusb to palm proprietary included.

Not bad if you're about to get the EVO and only have mini-usb shit accumulated.

I told him to hold off for a couple of months and just use this palm pre, but he's impatient and wanted a new phone. Should I root it?

there's nothing special about the hero. It's only got a 528 Mhz processor and like 288 MB of RAM but it'll run android 2.1 and probably eventually 2.2 fairly well. It's half the phone the evo is though

Yeah. I've been using a Pre in the interim and that's what I've started doing. But I have a ton of business contacts where before I'd have the abbreviation first then the location. Google has taken that to be Location, Abbreviation.

AAA, (Western Blvd) to (Western Blvd) AAA or worse Western B AAA.
BBB, New Bern turns to New BBB -- it's just annoying.

I would think there to be some sort of app that makes this a non issue or batch edits. There were tons of contact apps for WinMo and I can't seem to find a decent one for android.

^^ so you had the address in the name location? even in winmo there is a seperate field for address. all of my addresses moved over fine. my winmo sync'd with google so all i did was setup my gmail account on the phone.

if you need to edit contacts its a lot quicker to do it online than through the phone
