Wood couldn't hit threes or open jumpers that were automatic against maryland.
Howell couldn't make a layup until the last 4 minutes or so of the game
after the first 5 minutes or so of the game, i don't think we got any offensive boards
our defensive intensity was pretty good, but they were still hitting threes all day long with a hand in the face. Twice, Rice hit threes with CJW all over him-- one hit the backboard and went in from the top of the key, and the other hit the back of the rim and somehow died and went in rather than bouncing up 20 feet in the air like physics said it was supposed to.

One game that still stands out to me. The loss to UNC at Chapel Hill a few years back where they went on such a ridiculous run that their fans basically gave us a few pitty cheers when we finally scored towards the end of the first half. We were down like 30 in the first half and never got within like 25 the rest of the game. That was painful. St.John's was brutal, Wisconsin was just plain embarassing.

We don't play any fucking defense and haven't all year.

If there's anything about this team that is consistent it's that we do not play defense.

The problem is most people don't realize how easy it is to make wide open 20 footers. I'm 5'9", white and unathletic and even I can make 6-7 out of 10 unguarded 20 footers. Surely these guys easily can. So when we consistently go under screens leaving uncontested 20 footers and they make them everyone thinks they are "on fire."

That said, Rice Jr was drilling contested threes last night, which is tough..

Our big men were also out of position (a lot of time they were in good position when the offensive player got the ball, then they got out of position on easy head and step fakes) a lot, which led to easy baskets. Leslie fell victim to this almost EVERY time.

Henson and Zeller are going to destroy us. Our defense was better than it usually was last night...but that's not saying much, because it usually looks like shit.

We're ranked #320 out of 345 D1 college basketball teams at defending the 3-pointer.

Teams are shooting just a tick below 40% against us after 17 games.

We've seen two teams that are some of the worst 3 point shooting teams in the nation bomb on us for an entire game.

If you don't defend the three pointer in basketball, you don't stand a very good chance. Any team in the country can shoot 40% when left wide open and we are proof of that.

^ agreed, as good of a coach Roy is he has got to be the biggest douche ever. It's almost like he invites controversy and negative attention for constantly being a d-bag.

That was a good win against Wake. Don't get me wrong, Wake played HORRIBLY, and the final score is not representative of how we played.

However, we played that game well enough to win had Wake played an above average game. And that is what counts.

I really doubt our team is dumb enough to think we won a game by 35 and now we're the shit. What I am worried about though is the team thinking we've "turned the corner" on defense when in reality our defense wasn't very impressive that game. If anything I thought we gave up easier shots than normal... Wake took 20 three pointers, nearly all of which were open. I don't know the number of shots from within 3-4 feet that they missed but it had to be in the double digits.

Our next game is our last warm-up before the real season begins. It's another must win. But more than that, it's our last chance to get everyone on the same page before we start competing against real teams.

This CJ Leslie midseason mutiny is worrisome for sure.

Holy shit, I just did a landscape assessment of the ACC and the conference is COLLAPSING all around.

We still have a fucking shot. This is by far the worst ACC of our lifetimes...

We could go on a legit conference run this year if we even play average defense. I've never seen anything like this carnage

We should be sitting atop the conference with Duke right now. UNC will continue to feel like they don't have to put forth any effort and Duke is just simply not as good as they should be. We need to take advantage of this year.

-when our freethrow shooting was poor at the beginning of the year, it got fixed and now we are atop of the acc. when our only 3 point shots were coming from scott wood, it got fixed and now williams, johnson, and brown are shooting above 33% from 3 (respectable). when our three point defense was shittier than dick, it got fixed and we rotated very well and our bigs did a great job stepping out on the shooters.

when something needs improvement, gottfried does something about it. ITS SO SIMPLE THAT ITS BRILLIANT

things to keep in mind....

duke is never great early in the season... even in acc play.
they show up around ACC tourney, knock that down and get a good seed into the ncaa.

Carolina will always have an inflated ranking we do have a chance to beat them and we should beat them this year.
