Why is it so hard to believe that they might have faked a few injuries to slow down our no-huddle offense?
It's not as if it only occurred once or twice. And it happened multiple times after several plays into a no-huddle drive, when we were moving, after a positive play, at least once or twice in the red zone. And if you were there and not watching it on tv, you'd have seen how long they were taking to sit up and slowly limp off the field, longer than your average injury. I'm not saying that injuries shouldn't be taken seriously, and i'm not saying any specific one was not an injury (i'm sure there were some legit injuries), but there were multiple factors that happened multiple times that made them seem a little suspicious. 9/30/2014 9:12:27 AM |

It's too hard to say which ones are real and which ones are fake.
FSU had a DT go down and the fans booed but the guy was out the rest of the game and was actually injured. I think the booing should come when a guy goes down and then goes right back in 2 plays later. I really don't think FSU was faking against us, they were scoring at will against us and basically waiting for us to make a mistake on offense(finally happened twice in the 2nd half).
Georgia Southern on the other hand would have a guy go down, miss a play, then go back in and a play or two later he'd go back down, rinse and repeat.
Only good way to do it is to start forcing players that leave the field in those situations to stay out a certain number of plays or the rest of the drive. 9/30/2014 9:26:00 AM |

^Agreed. Also, it's not like the coaches have to be the one to give that direction. They players can make that decision on their own if they need a rest or want to give their teammates a rest too. Players are savvy and have some level of autonomy. 9/30/2014 10:40:49 AM |

it's clear that he got a little too wrapped up into the emotion of the game and the crowd booing and it swayed him to make the comments he did.
again, I'm not arguing about the authenticity of the injuries, just the fact that a coach shouldn't be commenting on them, especially directly after a game.

The fans were booing because it happened multiple times, during no-huddle drives, after several positive plays, one or two where we had quickly drove to the red zone, and the "injured" took much longer to get up and limp off than your average injury. Multiple times. I don't agree with the booing, it is unclassy, but it happened under suspicious circumstances multiple times that made it very suspicious, suspicious enough that our coach mentioned it in the press conference...
Just because several were legit injuries doesn't mean several weren't faked. I'm glad DD mentioned it the way he did, and I'm glad he apologized later. 9/30/2014 10:53:09 AM |

Fans booed every injury. Coach takes the whole situation into context and makes a general statement. If one or two of those guys were faking (and I imagine at least one was), then it's a legit statement that attention needs to be drawn to.
I don't think it makes him look great, but if gets league officials to seriously consider changes to the rule, then I think it's a net positive. And I think you're extremely overreacting to how bad it makes him look and possible consequences from it. 9/30/2014 11:11:35 AM |

^^^because it's probably easier for a coach to tell if a player is truly injured vs. Joe Schmoe is Section 25 Row O. And the boos were for specific incidents. The coach's comments were vague and could have been referring to the actual fake injuries and not the legit injuries.

^^ I never said anything about any consequences, just that it isn't a good look, which you agreed with me on
^ it's impossible for a coach to see all 22 players on the field at the same time, especially from field level. I'm guessing that he went back and looked at the tape, saw that they weren't as bad as he originally thought, and that's why he has apologized
if anything, the complaint would have been more valid had he made it after reviewing the film and not right after the game, in the heat of it all

Is there any way to curb the fake injuries other than forcing a defensive player out for the remainder of the drive if their injury stops the game? What if the offense isn't running a 2 minute drill, would injuries be allowed then?
I have zero doubt that fake injuries happen to occasionally slow the game down, but the issue is there's not much of a way to deal with it (especially given the current scrutiny on player safety) 9/30/2014 12:11:10 PM |

^^ Yeah...I doubt he apologized because he thought he was wrong. Yow probably called him and said..."you've made your point, lets make the thegoodlife3's of the world happy and issue a nice little apology."
^ I think the league should word it more as a, "let's keep these players safe and make sure they really aren't injured before they get put back in" instead of a "we've got to stop these fake injuries" type rule. I don't see how that wouldn't work.

I imagine they could hear your moaning from this thread.
College Football Daily just talked about FSU and fake injuries. Former player mentioned that they had hand signals to call for a "fake injury" when offenses were rolling and they needed a break and some substitutions. They then talked about holding injured players out longer.
Not saying it's going to make a difference, but they wouldn't have talked about it if Doeren hadn't said something. GG Coach D.

^Yup. Doeren got exactly what was needed from it, then he apologized to make the peace.
Golic from Mike and Mike talked about it a while ago and said it was common among NFL teams to have the same type of signal. He actually told a story about one time the signal coming from his coach and like three players went down at the same time with an "injury". 9/30/2014 2:05:59 PM |

The team is docked a timeout if the "injured" player comes back onto the field in the same drive as he went off injured. That's fair, and it protects the team from being penalized for truly injured players.
Essentially, teams are buying an extra timeout and killing momentum by just falling down.9/30/2014 2:15:58 PM |

If he's going to complain I'd rather see him stick to complaining about something that may actually help the team in the immediate future.
Complain about holds. The refs might keep a better eye out for holds in the next game (lol). There's a tiny chance that the complaining may make a difference.
Complain about fake injuries. The refs... I guess there's the small chance that the NCAA could step in and update the rules for next season.
