I am the commish of a 14-team league. The 14 teams is the reason we have championship in week 17, because the scheduling of the regular season is 14 weeks long (7 teams in 2 divisions.. play each other in division twice with 2 out of division games). The only other way of doing a 14 team league, IMO, is just having a FFA with no divisions but that's less exciting.

Yeah doing that with a 14 team league kinda makes sense. Ours is a 12 team league. I'm definitely opposed to it and have brought it up to the commish a few times. But he prefers having te championship in week 17. I don't really care that much about that league anyways. I obviously wanna win, but it's a smaller pot and less competitive than my other league. Oh well

I think it's kinda bs because by week 17 some starters may not be getting all their reps.

Averaged 105 pts per week with only three weeks below 100 and only one of those weeks below 95. Championship week and I put up 75 with only SF D left to play

Oh well, still in the money.

Why are divisions more exciting than playing everyone once and having playoffs weeks 14/15/16 for a 14 team league?

Week 17 championship sucks if it costs a team because his best player is benched.

I'm beating the #1 seed, 14-0 team in the semifinals, 153-116. He needs 38 points from San Francisco's defense to beat me.

^^in my opinion, divisions are exciting because you can avenge a previous loss. and, in a 14 team league, it makes it a little more personal since you are more familiar with a small group of teams than being generally unfamiliar with everyone. it's not super competitive, but it's not super casual either. it's a good balance. not for everyone though.

Good news: I have reached the championship three straight years in my work league.

Bad news: I'm going to lose in the championship game for the third straight year.

Worse news: I'm going to lose in the championship game to my wife.

She's going to be at least as insufferable as I would have been had I won.

I kinda agree. It may sound silly, but it's nice having "divisional rivals". In one league i'm in, we have two divisions. The first division is, more or less, the original league members. And the second division is, for the most part, the newer owners that have replaced guys that have left the league or whatever. So it's kinda neat, even if completely unnecessary and somewhat silly, to have certain owners that you're guaranteed to play twice or whatever. In this particular 10 team league, you play each division opponent twice (totalling 8 games) and then you play each team from the other division once (a total of 13 regular season games). So that works out nice, in my opinion.

In the 12 team league I'm in (which plays its championship in Week 17), you also have two divisions. But we don't play every team in our division twice. So I find divisions in that league to be fairly pointless.

Our 12 team league has 3 divisions, so we get to play the other 3 teams twice, but we probably should play thru week 17 so we can play everybody else once. The way we are we just miss one team per year. But I'd rather not play week 17 so it's cool I guess

Despite Matt Ryan's attempts to sink me by throwing TDs to his opponents, I have captured my 3rd championship in 5 years in my primary league.

It's my first year in that league (they've been around for ~10 years) they might always do it like that, I just never asked because I assumed it was a reasonable. Why is 4th out of 10 worth rewarding? Of course I wouldn't care much if I wasn't playing for the championship. The guy with the $$ isn't one of the top4 btw

Ok well since no one has asked for advice on this page, I'll start.

Pick one:

QB
Stafford (@MIN)
Foles (@DAL)

RB
Bush (@MIN)
F. Jackson (@NE)

WR
Fitzgerald (vs SF)
Cooper (@DAL)

Come on guys, this is for the championship.

Foles, Bush....Cooper/Fitz is more of a toss up IMO. But I might lean Fitz.

I, too, have a dumb league that plays its championship in Week 17. So here's a couple questions I have:

Is there any reason to not start Peyton this week...as in, is there any concern that he'd only play 1 half or anything like that (back up is Rivers, FWIW)?

Non-PPR, pick 1 RB, 1 WR, and 1 flex:

Joique Bell, MJD (assuming he's healthy), Jarrett Boykin, Cordarrelle Patterson, Greg Olsen?

I'm leaning Bell, Patterson, Olsen...but could use a little guidance.

If NE wins and Denver loses New England gets the 1 seed, so I'm sure they'd rather play at home. He should play the whole game.

Week 17 championship (ugh).

Non-PPR...pick 1 WR, and 1 flex:

MJD, Jarrett Boykin, Cordarrelle Patterson, Greg Olsen?

Aaron Rodgers is playing...I'm not sure if that helps boykin or not. He kinda emerged as one of Flynn's favorite targets. Not sure if he'll have a similar role with Rodgers. Olsen will be CAR's go to option...but he'll also be receiving plenty of attention from ATL's D. MJD is starting for JAX. But he was shit against IND earlier this year. And it's essentially a meaningless game for JAX so who knows how they'll play him.

Picked up Knile Davis because my opponent has Jamaal Charles.

[Edited on December 28, 2013 at 11:35 AM. Reason : I'd prob go Patterson/olsen]

^^Do you get return yardage? If so Patterson might be an ok option. I'd probably still go MJD, but Patterson might be the second best option if you get return yards.

No return yardage. And that's sort of my hold up on Patterson. Last week he only had 3 catches for 8 yards. But he did have a rushing td. I think Boykin may be the safer play at WR. But Patterson has a higher ceiling.

So I have a flex spot for my championship game this weekend that I usually put Jamaal Charles into. With him getting more than likely 2 series, who should I put in his spot today?

Knile Davis vs SD
Stevan Ridley vs Buffaloe
Nate Burleson vs Minnesota
Jordan Todman vs Indianapolis (I'm already starting MJD)

I can't believe our commissioner has us playing the championship game in week 17. Dumbest thing I've ever heard of. Now I'm without Jamaal Charles. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid

Pick 3:

Keenan Allen v. KC - meaningful game only for SD if Miami and BAL lose their 1pm games
Demariyus Thomas @OAK 1st place on the line
Andre Johnson v. TEN nothing to play for
Mike Wallace v. NYJ Miami wins and they are still alive for playoffs

standard scoring

^ those options all suck, no offense. I am in the same boat with my RBs. Got the following to choose from:

Legarrette Blount
Darren Sproles
Joe Banyard

You should see if Edwin Baker is available in your FA pool. He might be halfway decent
