Ok, I've gotten kinda bored of this whole thing. So I need a little help catching up.

What exactly does Mary Willingham's plagiarism have to do with anything? I guess it damages her credibility. But UNC is/was employing her, right? That's sort of UNC saying that they find her to be credible, right?

And it in no way changes UNC having no show classes and falsifying grades for student athletes, right?

So other than making Mary Willingham look kinda stupid...does this actually mean anything? It seems more like a diversion tactic than anything. It certainly doesn't exonerate UNC.

At this point this has basically become a pissing contest between UNC defenders and folks that wanna UNC given the death penalty.

It creates a credibility problem because they know people will report anything to have been alleged when in fact nothing has been proven. Read several posts ITT or some twitter feeds to get the gist of what I'm saying. The placement of a few quotation marks is what UNC is hanging their hat on, completely pathetic. Their entire squad of revenue athletes were using tutors to write their papers as several athletes have admitted and one even made one of his plagiarized papers admissible in a court of law.

But again, UNC knows how to work this in as if it's fact, their egregious plagiarism issues notwithstanding.

^Right. And I'm not really defending Mary Willingham and her thesis, because I don't give a shit. But all this seems like to me is a failure to use proper citations. Which, in academia, I assume can be a pretty big deal. But I'm just not sure how that negates any research she did or whatever.

And hell, like ^^ said...she was on the damn payroll at UNC. Clearly they found her to be credible enough and qualified for her job. This really does come across as simply trying to change the focus.

And there's still mounds of proof, beyond any research she did, of UNC having fake classes and falsifying grades for student athletes.
