Just in case any one was curious like me, the Fall Signing Period is November 14-21 this year.

I realized this while watching some highlight vids. His face never changes. Whether he just made a three or crossed a guy out of his shoes... same stoic face.

Another one of those myths people believe. Skinniness is very low on the factors that determine basketball performance.

Shooting, ball handling, height, speed, and athleticism are all things I would worry about, instead.

It would be much more intelligent for a 40% shooter to become a 50% shooter rather than try to put on X pounds of muscle. Hodge would probably be in the NBA if he had spent more time shooting rather than bulking up.

If we are being honest, getting shot and drafted by a team with 8 shooting guards didn't help.

Hell, remember when javi gonzalez was our starting pg? you can't get any worse than that.

Also I hear barber committed because he loves the new uniforms.

I was searching for news about Barber to look into his off-the-court problems and theft allegations (of which I found none) when I came across this gem:

http://keepingitheel.com/2012/09/17/unc-basketball-recruiting-cat-barber-to-nc-state-troy-williams-to-carolina/

It's a UNC link, but it mentions Barber was talking about going to the same school as a good friend of his (a forward) Troy Williams. Any chance we open a recruiting line if we think we can get to him through Barber? We do need some positions filled in that area, and we have plenty of scholarships left right?

You mean a true bigman, like anya or meeks?

(and we'll still have vandenburg in 2013, and he's gonna be a defensive beast! )

We have plenty of scholarships for both, don't we? Aren't we sitting on four or five for 2013?

Gott tweeted near Houston today, I wonder who he was seeing

^i heard UNC won't offer Meeks unless as a fallback, so we might convince him to come a la Lewis

For reference,

SR: Richard Howell, Scott Wood
JR: Jordan Vandenberg (he did get a redshirt, right?), CJ Leslie, Lorenzo Brown, Ralston Turner (will redshirt this season and have 2 years left. I think)
SO: Thomas De Thaey
FR: Tyler Lewis, Rodney Purvis, TJ Warren

So that gives us 10 scholarship players this season. Only 9 eligible (Turner sitting out). Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the limit is 13 scholarship players. So we already have 3 open spots. Howell and Wood would free up 2 more scholarships, bringing the total to 5 after this season. And Leslie and Brown going pro could bring that total to 7 spots open. Well, 6 if you go ahead and include Cat Barber.

Please correct me if I got any of this wrong...I was doing it from memory, so I may have missed something/someone.

[Edited on September 17, 2012 at 5:28 PM. Reason : and i will echo the sentiments of those wanting a legit big man. definitely a big need there]

I'd be more worried about eligibility issues than any unsubstantiated rumors about thieving. Very few teams were after him despite his talent, which may be a sign that he won't qualify. Pure speculation, take that fwiw. That said, Gottfried has pulled offers due to eligibility issues in the past (see: Graham, T). The fact that he didn't do so with Cat is a good sign.

I can think of at least one thief who gave a team a national championship. Honestly, I could make peace with that.

He's got all the playing time he could ever want staring him in the face if he comes here. I know he's good enough for that to be true most anywhere, but we're legitimately out of bigs after this year.

Kyle Washington is taking his OV to State this weekend:
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncstate/basketball/recruiting/player-Kyle-Washington-109182

Not an elite post player by any means, but we need bodies.

A 4* would be elite enough for me, especially with our need for big bodies and the amount of open schollies we'll have.

I'm not saying he sucks or we shouldn't take him, just that he isn't in the top tier of post players for the class of 2013.

Negative, he's from Minnesota originally and this is his first year at Brewster.

We should be elated with any top 100 recruit we can get. This guy has been on the rise, too.

We were blessed with last years' class. I think the fact that we have a ton of scholarships to give allows us to go after a number of different players that might not be the creme of the crop, but will still be important cogs in a winning program. If we can find another Howell or Wood in these guys, it'll be terrific.

^^ what's delusional about calipari? the man and his entire staff came and toured our facilities. there was nothing delusional whatsoever in that scenario.
