thanks for the insight, cassie! alas, my mom rolled my hair in socks a few times when i was in elementary school and i know it's possible for this hair to become poodle-esque

how often do you burn fingers on that thing??

punchmonk! props to you girl for taking on that hairstyle, i think you pull it off very well! i'm too attached to do anything drastic like that

so...i'm debating painting my apartment, which is just that crappy contractors paint beige, and i think i want to do white on white...again, nothing drastic, but i just really like the starkness and simplicity and plan to add pops of color with a rug and throw pillows here and there...thoughts, anyone?

"i have one - the curling wand i feel does the best job when it comes to holding a curl over a curling iron. i can use my curling wand and the wave/curl will last a few days if need be without falling out too much. but you have to be careful. it's easy to grab too small a piece or to hold the hair to the wand for too long and then you end up looking like a poodle"

maybe I'm missing something about the actual device, but why would a curling wand hold curl any better over a standard curling iron? isn't it the same thing, just without the clip function?

Does anyone have experience with a breast reduction? They just hurt a lot of the time now and I'm starting to think about it seriously

I've had several of these bras over the years and I can't swear by them more. So comfortable, don't choke off my breathing, and my girls dont move... and there is a lot to keep from moving Even though they don't make it in my size (36G) I still fit into the DD

^^ How do they hurt? My breasts used to be sore all the time until I switched birth controls. It turned out to be an overload of estrogen just making them "bloated" and sore to the touch.

Unless you are talking about back pain or something...

like its hard to breath because there is so much weight on my chest. I constantly slouch, my back and sternum usually crack when I sit up strait, shoulders hurt, back hurts, ribs hurt. I can't do several yoga moves because I'll suffocate. There is a permanent but faded bruising under my breasts where the underwire sits on my ribcage

It isn't horrible pain or anything, it's more like im perpetually uncomfortable.

Physically I can do it but wtf, breathing is overrated anyway. I just sit up and watch everyone else do it. No point in even attempting anymore

I bought the Conair Infini Spin Brush this afternoon and used it later this evening after showering up after gym class. I really love it. It does give my hair a sleeker and shiner look, but I was mostly enthused about the easy of styling my hair. With a turned under bob it was really awesome to have a brush that would automatically pick up my hair and turn it under. Usually, I use a standard old hot brush to manually turn my hairs under, but this did id all for me in one nice little swoop.

I am going to try the no shampoo thing starting today. Following this method http://www.crunchybetty.com/no-poo-to-you-too with baking soda and apple cider vinegar. I am bracing myself for hating it but I hope I can stick it out.

I had a breast reduction when I was 18, and had all of these ailments plus some (shoulder ridges, lower back pain that was exacerbated when doing anything involving leaning over at all (doing dishes, vacuuming, crafting, etc)).

I was a 34DD by my sophomore year in HS (and was a size 5-6). Insurance covered 90% of it, and I was only out of commission for a few days. I went down to a small C. I unfortunately was not done growing, because by the end of my freshman year in college I was back to the same bras, albeit much perkier and they sat better on my chest. That said, I would do it again in a heartbeat, and might even consider it in the future after having kids (assuming they'll get even bigger).

I do believe the technology has improved greatly and the downsides of the surgery have been greatly reduced in odds/frequency (scarring, numbness, complications with breastfeeding).

I am not trying to a be a bitch or anything, but can corrective exercises improve one's quality of life? Before considering surgery, can a physical therapist help assess some structural weaknesses?

Whether it's poor postural from a desk job or to a weak core and surrounding back muscles, these may be something to look into.

I have always been a HAVE TO shampoo every single day type person because my hair is really fine and my scalp is pretty oily. I have always heard that if you suck it up and get through the break-in phase it gets a lot better only washing once or twice a week (I'm pretty sure we have discussed this in here at least twice and I've always said the same things). I was always still too terrified to try it, but from her photos and all the comments I was intrigued. And I don't have to do anything important in the next 2 weeks so I figured now's my time to give it a shot.

I just did my first wash. Yes, baking soda is the "shampoo" and acv is "conditioner." My hair feels pretty good right now, though it's still wet. It's tomorrow I'm more worried about. Also, if you just mix up containers of both and leave them in the shower you are going to be putting room-temperature water on your head. Cold.

yep.
when i hear "i have to wash my hair everyday" that's what i immediately think. you just have to get through the phase. and to me 2nd or 3rd day hair is always the best anyway. especially 3rd day hair after you've had it up/styled and product'd all to hell.

good luck w/ your method

Good call. I know I have one extra spray bottle somewhere so I might put the baking soda in that. Since the acv doesn't touch the scalp it shouldn't be too bad.

I tried that, Skwinkle (we have similar hair). I went a little crazy and quit and I also didn't like the smell of my hair. I try not to wash my hair everyday and I often go many days without washing my hair now but I often wear hats to cover up my hair. Let me know, if you stick it out, if it really does work.

^^ That's one thing I am not sure of. I was never really clear on what people do the days they don't wash. One girl I asked and she said she will wet it if she works out to rinse off the gross, but just not shampoo or anything. Another said she just throws it in a ponytail when she showers, but I don't think she works out as much.

and LK, what about products during the break-in phase? I don't use much normally, but I use spray detangler and Moroccan oil when I feel like I need it

if you're having an oily day and don't want to wash it (aka when I am gross and lazy) a little baby powder or cornstarch helps a lot. it just absorbs all the yuck. I'll probably have to do that during the oily phase when I start this

^ I do that too.

^^i don't use a lot of product either except for the occasional mousse or gel if I want my hair more wavy for the day instead of more straight, and the rarely used hairpray. I honestly don't know a lot about product, but I would think steering away from oil for a bit and use detangler sparingly.

My co-worker swears by dry-shampoo. She prefers a certain brand, not sure what. But even on days where she works-out, she will dry her sweaty hair and then apply the dry-shampoo.

I have to wash my hair everyday. Once I tried to do an every-other-day thing, but that was terrible.

Which subscription were you thinking about? I shouldn't really be spending extra money on anything since we are saving for a trip, but $10/month doesn't seem bad. But I'm wondering if it's worth it for someone like me who doesn't primp much at all. I am interested in trying new/different stuff though.
