I love Google Voice. Use it for my work number. When I get calls I dynamically adjust my number to ring whatever phone I'm using at the moment (cell, conference, desk, etc)
http://lifehacker.com/5875247/how-to-improve-your-google-voice-experience-on-the-iphone
Some good stuff in there if you use an iPhone with Google Voice. If your phone's jailbroken you can essentially tell the native phone / sms apps to use your Google Voice number instead of your carrier number so you don't have to deal with the actual GVoice app. 1/13/2012 11:50:36 AM |

^^ same here. I think it's cool but far from ready for making a big deal about (sometimes they should just fully develop the innovative technology like Apple and then release it)...
And does this mean everyone is going to be bumping into each other as they use those glasses, I guess they can add a sensor and alert the user if they are about to collide with something...

What's interesting is that I was paying $20/year for 80gb shared across Gmail, Picasa, Docs, etc. Now it says my GDrive has 80gb of space. But it also says the plan I'm on no longer exists. I guess I'm going to get grandfathered in on some super cheap storage for a while but I wonder how long that will last. 4/24/2012 1:47:31 PM |

Google storage plans have changed, but you can stay on your current plan as long as you:
Keep your account active Keep payment information in Google Wallet accurate and up-to-date Don’t cancel or upgrade your current plan If your account lapses, your credit card is declined, or you choose to change your storage plan in any way (upgrade or downgrade), you’ll be switched to the new Google storage plan.

It looks like I'm gonna get to keep my 80gb for $20/year.4/26/2012 10:36:16 AM |

Is buying a company the same thing as innovating?
In other news, Google will finally have a really awesome email client that's not web-based. And I'm willing to bet we'll see it on Android sooner than later.

$120/mo for ultra fast internet AND whole house DVR television service AND a Nexus 7? That's fucking awesome.
Even more awesome though is their plan to offer FREE INTERNETS after you pay the $300 construction fee (or $25/12 months). Service guaranteed for 7 years. And you pay nothing after that fee. That's fantastic.
This needs to be here now. TWC/Comcast/Verizon/etc have to be a little scared seeing that, and that's great.

Could Google Glasses be used to help you cheat on an exam in any kind of way? 8/26/2012 10:11:49 PM |
El Nachó special helper 16370 Posts user info edit post |
I really don't see how it could. I mean, it's only a computer strapped to your head with a connection to the internet, and a camera with an earpiece so people could see what you see and talk to you covertly. I can't really imagine how somebody would go about using all that technology to cheat on an exam. It's not like it's a piece of paper with equations written on it or something. Now that would be cheating, for sure. 8/26/2012 10:27:21 PM |
seedless All American 27142 Posts user info edit post |
You probably could somehow load a cheat sheet on it, enough to get an edge on the exam. Maybe even hack to detect pens strokes and have them loaded on wolfram or something. 8/26/2012 11:09:27 PM |
El Nachó special helper 16370 Posts user info edit post |
No way man. That's crazy talk. I'm thinking maybe at best you might be able to write a couple of equations along the inside of the glasses or something, but that would only be a small help at best. plus you'd have to write it really small. 8/26/2012 11:20:43 PM |

http://googleenterprise.blogspot.com/2012/12/changes-to-google-apps-for-businesses.html
Quote : | "Google Apps started with the simple idea that Gmail could help businesses and schools work better together without the hassles of managing software and servers. As we grew from a handful of customers to a few hundred, we expanded to offer a premium business version of Google Apps. Fast forward to today and Google Apps is used by millions of businesses. We’ve also added versions for governments, universities and schools.
When we launched the premium business version we kept our free, basic version as well. Both businesses and individuals signed up for this version, but time has shown that in practice, the experience isn't quite right for either group. Businesses quickly outgrow the basic version and want things like 24/7 customer support and larger inboxes. Similarly, consumers often have to wait to get new features while we make them business-ready.
With this in mind, we’ve decided to make things very straightforward. Starting today for all new customers: Individuals wishing to use Google’s web apps like Gmail and Google Drive should create a free personal Google Account, which provides a seamless experience across all of our web services on any device. For Businesses, instead of two versions, there will be one. Companies of all sizes will sign up for our premium version, Google Apps for Business, which includes 24/7 phone support for any issue, a 25GB inbox, and a 99.9% uptime guarantee with no scheduled downtime. Pricing is still $50 per user, per year.
Please note this change has no impact on our existing customers, including those using the free version. And as before, Google Apps for Education will be available as a free service for schools and universities. Also, as the first cloud productivity suite with FISMA certification, we’ll continue to offer Google Apps for Government for $50 per user, per year.
With focus we’ll be able to do even more for our business customers. We’re excited about the opportunity to push Google Apps further so our customers can do what matters most to them–whether that’s scooping ice cream, changing the face of healthcare or contributing to lifelong learning. " |
