A fucking fumbled snap away from being in very good position to win the division. That's got to be frustrating.
What an up and down season for Philip and the Chargers. They straight up dominated the Ravens last night. That was almost boring to watch. They can definitely win out...but its going to be tough for the Broncos to lose to the Bills and Chiefs. It can happen, but not likely. 12/19/2011 8:35:57 AM |

As I said on the last page, it's more likely they get in via wildcard. Not likely, but more likely than winning the division. 12/19/2011 9:40:51 AM |

Fumbled snap is a killer, Novak not being clutch vs Denver is a killer. Both pale in comparison to the injuries along the offensive line and to a lesser extent Malcom Floyd. Would probably be looking at a 11-3 or 10-4 right now. 12/19/2011 11:37:56 AM |

They basically lost twice in one game against Chicago. Lost the game, then injured Cutler at the end of the 4th.
SD was the first of a 4 game stretch against the AFCW by the Bears. They would have won every one of those games if Cutler was playing instead of Caleb Hanie, but instead they lost all 3. So basically that one game put them two games back in the standings.

I'd rather Denver win the West over KC. No reason for Haley to have been fired a year after winning the division, and this year losing Charles, Cassell, and Berry. I'm okay with Oakland taking it. 12/19/2011 12:19:17 PM |

Interview on 99.9 yesterday. I think he sufficiently put to rest all the rumors and speculation that he is bitter or doesn't like NC State. Seems to me like he's still pays attention and has plenty of pride.

Ha...I was wondering if this topic was going to get bumped.
Looks like the Giants made the correct draft-day decision. He started out a little rough, but now Eli is at the top with P Manning/Brady/Rodgers/Big Ben. He has his hiccups, but you can't ignore how he performs in the clutch. That throw on the last drive was a thing of beauty. 2/6/2012 6:53:22 AM |

^ I like Marty...but that guy curled up into the fetal position in the playoffs. Then he would try and make up for by doing something ballsy...but incredibly stupid (like going for that 4th and long against the Pats). He had to go.
Norv on the other hand...eh.
Just don't leave Rivers out of the blame game. He had a horrid 5-6 game stretch this year that completely fucked them out of the playoffs (not to mention the fucked-up snap against Kansas City). He also had a shitty playoff game against the Jets two years ago. He has also been below-average in the clutch department while Eli has been the opposite.
Let's just be fair. He needs to get a ring in a big way...or Eli is going to take his Hall of Fame spot.

^^^Not to take anything away from Eli because he was good last night for sure, but Philip has had one year where he had a defense even approaching what Eli has had his entire career (or a coach for that matter). It's easier to be clutch when your defense keeps you in games and when you can win games scoring less than 30 pts.
Let's not forget that Eli has also had plenty of headscratcher type games in his career. I mean, the giants were 9-7 in the regular season this year. Now all of a sudden everyone wants to put Eli on the Brady/Rodgers level and that's just retarded. 2/6/2012 10:59:23 AM |

I thought so too...until he just dominated the playoffs.
I've been HUGE Eli hater until this year. He almost threw for 5,000 yards (something Philip has never done), had numerous comeback wins, crushed the 4th quarter all year long, and just won a 2nd Super Bowl. What else do you need as a detractor to NOT put him at that level? Maybe more consistency??2/6/2012 11:01:41 AM |

I have to agree with jbrick on this one. Eli has elevated himself into the upper tier of QBs along with Brady, Brees, Rodgers, Peyton. River is 2nd tier and will be until he wins a Super Bowl. Stats wise Rivers has been the better QB over his career than Eli, but right now Eli is the better QB period.
I wish Rivers could find a way out of SD, but it ain't going to happen. He's becoming another Dan Fouts. Good QB that will only remembered as a good QB. No chance at the HOF unless he wins a Super Bowl or MVP in the next couple years. 2/6/2012 11:34:31 AM |

Dan Fouts put up big numbers when there weren't a lot of QB's putting up big numbers.
It seemed like half the league threw for 5,000 yards this year. Fucking Cam Newton threw over 400 yards in each of his first two games. It's a passing league now...so big time stats aren't going to set you apart from the other QB's like they have in the past. You're going to need to win Super Bowls to get into the HOF these days. And when it's time to vote guys in, Rivers will be going against Brady, the Mannings, Rodgers, Brees, and Big Ben. All of those guys have won Super Bowls and also have big numbers.
It's going to be extremely difficult for him to get into the hall without a Super Bowl. Give him a ring and have him keep up his numbers and he's a shoe-in.2/6/2012 12:01:05 PM |
