Could Mageo potentially have an asterisk for him coming out of New Mexico? I mean that's just where he did his JUCO, he's originally from American Samoa. Did you know that a 2002 article from ESPN estimated that a Samoan male (either an American Samoan, or a Samoan living in the 50 United States) is 40 times more likely to play in the NFL than a non-Samoan American? Just an interesting statistic that I found and thought I'd share.

It should be an interesting offseason for carolina. Just by looking at their eligibility chart on scout, I noticed that they have 98 scholarships given out for next year, which includes 26 commits this year. On paper, I would think this would be their best recruiting class ever, which got even better when another 4* OL committed a few days ago.

Of course, the problem is that you can only have 85 scholarships. 98 - 85 = 13 scholarships over the limit. That's a hell of a lot of attrition for one year. I guess Butch is taking a page from the TOB playbook

I was reading http://northcarolinastate.scout.com/a.z?s=178&p=2&c=827393 and it really struck me how horrible his last name is, McPhail.

he's either going to come to state where his last name will be accurate or he'll go somewhere else where his last name will be ironic.

Just saw on PackPride frontpage that we have four enrolling early. I can't read the story (no premie) but it looks like:

OT Sam Jones
DT Nathan Mageo
RB James Washington
S Donald Coleman

Can anybody confirm this?

former UNC signee A.J. Blue will not enroll at UNC in January as originally hoped after still failing to qualify

No, this is the really funny part:

Quote :
"After failing to qualify coming out of Dallas (N.C.) North Gaston High, Blue, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound athlete, enrolled at Chatham (Va.) Hargrave Military Academy with the hope of prepping just one semester.
However, the courses Blue enrolled in ended up becoming year-long (two semester) classes. Blue is enrolled in four courses, in addition to taking ACT/SAT prep classes."

How does a class that is supposed to be a semester end up becoming year-long? When you fail the first time.

I still think we need more help at CB, even if Boyd signs with us. But getting all these big guys is awesome.

Anybody know if Larry Raper has re-scheduled an official visit with us? Him and Watson would be nice final touches on this class. (and Bond too).

The only one left that I want us to get now is Asa Watson.

We've done a really good job filling up our needs this year.

1 QB
1 True RB
2 Slot WR
1 WR
2 TE (Cato-Bishop will be TE or DE)
3 OL (including one C)
4 DT (one JUCO ready to play next year)
2 DE
2 LB
2 S
2 CB
1 P

Cato-Bishop could play DE and we could still take Watson as a TE.

Supposedly Micheal Lemon is coming to State:

So we have 26 commits right now. 4 have already enrolled, which would allow us to bring in 4 more guys if we so chose to do. You can only have 25 players come in a class, but since 4 enrolled early they can count against last year's total. If we can take 4 more players then the ones that I think the staff would take commitments from would be Asa Watson first and foremost, Jairus Jones, Quandon Christian, and Larry Raper.

There are reports though that we may take former Georgia DE Michael Lemon. Lemon was dismissed from UGA after punching a fellow student 5 times in the face at a pool party. Lemon confronted the student about rumors that were swirling around that he had been with Lemon's girlfriend at the time. Lemon was charged with felony aggravated battery and misdemeanor battery. A felony gets an automatic dismissal from UGA. His eye Prior to this incident Lemon's mother was shot and killed by her boyfriend, and her remains were found in the burnt down house of Lemon's. A fund was started by the athletic department to help Lemon cover the expenses he would face during the remainder of his time at UGA. Lemon was by all accounts a soft spoken guy up until this incident.

Lemon attended Georgia Military College last season and played football there. This is the same school that Tobias Palmer and Roy Mangram are doing their JUCO at and were former State player Merci Falaise is a graduate assistant. Lemon would have 2 years to play 2 and would enroll for classes in May.

damn that is awful about what happened to Lemon's mother. I can understand why he might be a little on edge. Hopefully TOB can funnel that fury into crushing skulls on the ball field.

Lemon is a fucking monster.

when you're making plays for UGA as a R-FR, I think you can contribute up here in Raleigh.

I think that if he makes it into the program, we got a fucking steal.

This might sound like a cop out, but that Lemon guy doesn't sound like a bad guy from Mark Richt's comments on him:

“My goal for Michael is for him as he leaves this program is to go somewhere where he can continue his education and play football,” Richt said. “I hope for him that it can be at Georgia (in the future) because that’s what he wants, and I love him very much.”

Richt said that dismissing Lemon was the toughest disciplinary decision he had to make while at Georgia. We gave Shea McKeen a second chance and he's kept his nose clean and has contributed right away.

Conor O'Neal is off the board. He committed to Wisconsin today. We were the first school to offer O'Neal and he enjoyed his trip to State over the weekend, but we probably didn't have space for him since Randolph and Roberson committed first. Once we offered O'Neal received scholarship offers from Wisconsin, Boston College, Michigan State, Buffalo, Georgia Southern, and some interest from South Florida. Although he can't run with the Pack I'm glad NC State helped him get noticed enough to get scholarship offers elsewhere. It's just a testament to TOB & Co.'s ability to evaluate talent.

One thing that's kind of ironic is that Wisconsin's 2009 class already has a guy named Conor O'Neill.

Asa Watson will be visiting this weekend. If you see him at the Georgia Tech basketball game show him some love. He'd be a great pickup and could do well alongside Anthony Talbert, Mario Carter, and George Bryan in the coming years. That'd be on paper one of the better TE corps in the ACC. We'd have athleticism, strength, good blocking, and good hands all around.
