^ Bingo.

Or come across unfair and impossible affixes.

There's no way I will ever play HC in this game. Absolutely not worth the potential anger.

They warn you with a big pop-up. I fully resigned myself to the fact any hardcore character I create IS going to die. It will still sting, but I will be ok.

Thats when you run away and re-make!

Also, having multiple hardcore heroes will make it a bit better. That way you're never starting over from level 1 really.

Plus, you shouldn't look at it as 'work'. Its entertainment.

Hardcore gives you that thrill of the battle that softcore simply cannot.

By adding a grieving element to the game, it creates that love/hate relationship.

Blizzard has a green agenda and would rather see you salvage that item then see it end up in a Seigebreaker junkyard.

So far Act 1 inferno is a piece of cake. On average I will 3-shot a trash mob. And against elite packs I'll die 0 to 2 times depending on luck. And I'm not even using Energy Armor (or any Armor skill). Always been a Diamond Skin kind of guy.

It is amazing how much easier/fun act 3 inferno azmo run is than the bellial run.

Act 2 is just terrible. From the start going through that canyon, jumping napalm throwing cats, to bellial to the fact that you have to run into the town for potions instead of getting them somewhere convenient to where the TP is.

Fuck Inferno. I'm a wizard and can barely deal with Act 1 elite packs on my own without a tank. During a fight I have to exit the dungeon like 3 or 4 times to take a breather otherwise I'll die to Mortar or Vortex shenanigans.

28k dps, ~200 resists, 20k hp. its just not worth my time to farm for better gear since I never get anything remotely as good as what I've got now and I'm too broke to afford anything on the AH. aaargghh

^ I pwn Elites in Act 1 with my Wizard - you need at least 350 resist in Act 1 and at least 500 in Act 2 to be helpful to a tank.

So I sold another ring today for $135... so it got me thinking how much what I have is worth. I hate the WD anyway and want to level a monk, and so I just posted on the blizz forums bidding for all my WD items as a set for RL$Dollar bucks.

Not sure anything will come of it, or if I'm even allowed to sell stuff on the blizz forum that way. Should be interesting, I think I have some pretty nice items. People spend money on crazy stuff.

i don't see how stuff could get any more valuable at this point. slowly but surely, less people will be playing, while more items are constantly being generated. unless, of course, they make items bind on equip.

That is why I think might as well sell now why people are inferno crazy, especially all the WDs that are struggling.

The ring I sold for $135 is basically the same ring I have in the picture, the legendary. I bought 2 of them because I thought I could equip both

I can't remember how much I spent, but won the auctions on both for a good price, maybe 5mil? Dunno. I use to make money back in the day selling items/gold on eBay from Ultima Online...

I'll do a few upgrades on my barb and get little further in act2.

lol, switching from a WD to a Monk? Isn't that like jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire? From what I've seen, there is a lot of debate of who is bottom-of-the barrel, WD or Monk. I haven't seen many in Siegebreaker runs, but most are completely useless.

I have a friend who plays Monk and does fairly well with it, but all I hear about is how Barbs are significantly better. Gear choice end-game also seems fairly limited to pieces with resist stacking mods, which would drive me nuts. And the IAS nerf is probably gonna hurt the Monk more than any other class. I don't suspect the next patch will be kind to them.

I killed Ghom last night on inferno with my monk, but I wouldn't call myself an expert. I dual wield and don't stack IAS or life on hit, so that's not exactly the conventional wisdom, but I've played around with builds for dual wield survivability a decent amount. Right now I'm farming Kulle and Belial to get some better gear to start the rest of Act 3.

I may try a bit of life on hit to see how much difference it makes, because I'd like to stick with the same build I use now if I can.

I went w/ Monk because I didn't want to play another range class. I did more than enough kiting and running with the WD and am done with that. I don't want to play barb either.

I've seen way more effective Monks than WD. If I can get similarly geared out with this Monk as I was with the WD I'm sure I'll do better.

If you want to go monk, I would recommend that you use your experience and wealth on the AH to start looking for level 60 gear now. Up to that point, just go +dex and +vit with big dps weapons and it's hard to go wrong; I only died 3-4 times before hitting inferno. But once you get here, it's obviously a big step up.

CapnObvious is right that high-end gear is hard to come by, since all monks rely heavily on more distinct attributes than probably any other class and build. One With Everything is just about mandatory, and +resistance is budgeted more cheaply than an equivalent amount of +armor, so it's very helpful to stack All Resists with whatever you choose as a primary resist to raise. I chose Physical, which is a bit more expensive on the AH but has better resale value since it's the most valuable for other classes to have on top of All. Aim for 700+, which means looking for 80+ on each item; if you can pick up 100+ combined resist on a few pieces, that gives you leeway on some of the slots that have other attributes to look for (see below).

+Dex gives damage, dodge, as well as armor if you use Seize the Initiative. You should also insist on +Vit on everything but weapons and maybe jewelry, depending on what you have to give up to get it.

So that's four stats on every armor piece already. The hardest slots to fill that you should start looking for now are gloves and helms. In addition to the above, you should get IAS on gloves, and try to get crit chance and/or crit damage. For helms, make sure to get a socket for a +life% gem (rule of thumb for a well-geared monk is 1% life is worth roughly 10 Vit), and if you already have a build you like, get +damage% on your primary skill. Picking up +crit chance on a helm is a nice bonus, too.

not sure what they're planning on doing with IAS, but getting over 2 attacks per second is really nice for spirit generation and life on hit. and if you can find a fast weapon with IAS, you can get over 3.

Man my buddy has ate it twice now as a monk hardcore. once at 52, the next trying to power level back up to us at 42.

His problem isnt the monk, its knowing when to run away (i.e. dont take on 2 champ packs when both have arcane and one has jailer)

Anyone else progressing hardcore? I have yet to lose a character, so im trying to level up multiples to soften that blow.

I have a 53 DH, 52 barb, 22 wiz, and a monk and wd at 10 and 8.

Nightmare Diablo nearly did my DH in since I was careless about the bone traps. Gogo preparation heal!

i dont get why my RM items are not selling. market price for items with the same stats are going for 5-20$ and yet i do not have a single bid on any of my 10 items despite my low buyout prices.. anyone having similar issues selling moderately good gear on the RMAH?

undercutting buyouts can sometimes be counterproductive, as most people get an idea in their head of what something "should" cost, filter accordingly. I've listed items at bargain basement buyouts and had them not sell, then relisted them with a higher buyout but with the same low initial bid, and had it sell.

*shrug*

Claim to be unofficial patch notes. Not much of interest except what they are showing for the attack speed nerf, and it is pretty significant.

Could be pretty valuable depending on the other stats.

I think after this patch, when attack speed gets hit the big thing will be crit chance and crit damage. So any items that have those on them will sell. A lot of people already going that direction anyway.

If you have any nice IAS gear, dump it all now while u can get a lot for it.

So i have screwed around with all the classes though act 1 normal. I think its times i picked 1/2 to focus on leveling up for now. The feel i get for relative power is below, with 5 being the best class
barb: aoe 3, single target 2, defense 5, cc 1. can just stand and swing to win.
Wiz: aoe 4, single target 4, defense 1, cc 5. Very glass cannon feel
DH: aoe 1, single target 5, defense 3, cc 3. Great single target/kiting. Mass murdering feels lacking
Monk: aoe 2, single target 3, defense 4, cc 2. feels like slightly harder hitting less beefy barb to me
WD: aoe 5, single target 1, defense 2, cc 4. AoE kiter. Reminds me of a summon/poison necro from D2.

From what i read monk and WD suffer a lot at higher levels/hhave strict gear requirements. I am currently leaning towards the tried and true D2 practice of level the barb to gear the caster (wizard) to gear everything else. Would this still be the most efficient route to take?

DH has amazing aoe once you get the ball lightning rune for elemental arrow. The nether tentacle rune (also for elemental arrow) is also very good, does more damage but in a smaller area. There are other aoe spells that do a lot of damage too but ball lightning and nether tentacles are so good you don't even need them.

There is no real point to leveling a barb to gear a wizard. The wizard is one of the strongest classes right now. Just hit up the AH every 10 levels or so and you'll be unstoppable.
