Sturridge makes it 2-0, make that 3-0

Southampton came to play, while Arsenal looking very pedestrian.

and this is after you've gone on an all-caps bold-faced mad attack on the previous page

not really a "joke," mang.. just an observation of facts.

and furthermore, just because Sturridge and Suarez scored some goals against an entirely demoralized Everton doesn't make them fuckin world beaters. C'mon guys. This is one of the best years for parity in the EPL in years because teams are performing hyper-dysfunctionally... not because all of a sudden the EPL is the best league again. Liverpool aren't that good. Neither are City, Arsenal, Spurs, United, Chelsea, or anyone else.

That's probably true about Arsenal at the top.

FA Cup still a possibility but this was never going to be a title year anyway. The money they have to spend (and not from oil) going forward is going to be Bayern level. Get your punches in now.

This is probably the truest statement of the last few pages though. It's true. City is probably the closest to an elite European team but they are a Kompany or Toure injury from being shit at the back.

City and Chelsea are definitely that good.

Both are legit UCL title contenders and have quality at every single spot. I don't know how you can say they aren't part of Europe's elite.

But for real, how many world class teams actually exist in other leagues? At the most 2 that I can think of in Bundesliga, La Liga, and Serie A. EPL isn't that far off at all.

yeah, I totally agree. I've actually felt there's more class in the Premier League than there's been in some years. City and Arsenal can (at their best, which they approach pretty frequently) play elite, superlative team football on a level with Bayern or Barca. Chelsea aren't as flashy, but they're extremely solid and (with Mourinho) very good at winning games. Liverpool aren't quite on this level, but they've played plenty of delightful football as well, too.

The EPL is not up to the old standard where every year the Big Four made the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and nobody wanted to play any of them; but City, Arsenal, and Chelsea look (at least from domestic form) like very, very tough contenders.

But City and Arsenal are young teams who are unaccustomed to being true European elites (with Arsenal this is true, at any rate, of the current crop of players.) For me it's a question of whether they can translate their brilliance onto the really biggest stage, and thrive rather than choke under pressure.

It was close for sure.

Well done to Spurs (and Lloris) for holding on in the half. Still not convinced by them going forward at all though. A second goal for City and this game is probably done.

NYM knows what's up.

You guys are delusional. City and Chelsea are the most consistent in a bad lot. That does not make them UCL title contenders. In fact, that statement has to be the single dumbest thing you've posted this season. City would get demolished by any of the major league leaders on the continent, save for Juve. These teams you think are good are only good in relative comparison. You're not seeing the level of play rise, you're seeing it dip, and dramatically at that.

It's not physically, mathematically, or even financially possible for 6 teams to have improved to the point where there's this current level of parity, so the obvious conclusion you have to draw is that the bar has LOWERED, not been raised.

But logic always seems to fall on deaf ears with you, so carry on in fantasy land.

City will lose in the round of sixteen. I don't think Barca is great but I do think they'll beat City. And I'm not saying they aren't very good. They are. But they are one injury to a key player at the back away from being an atrocious defense. Aguero is hurt too, now and he is the guy they look to when they NEED a goal.

Chelsea... dropped points to West Ham at Stamford Bridge. I don't think they are appreciably better than Arsenal at all this year and Arsenal is far from a European elite.

Anyway... rumors are Vucinic to Arsenal on season long loan and still in for Draxler. It'd be a great window if they get both I guess.

How good do you have to be to be "European elite?" Watching this season, I've seen only one consistently top-notch, unstoppable team in Europe, and that was Bayern Munich. Would you class any other ter\ams (Barca, for example) as "European elite" right now?

The only reason I'd possibly hesitate to call Arsenal and City "elite" is consistency: they've both been magnificent at times, but they have quite a few off-days. The same is true of Barca and Real Madrid, though. (You could argue that City's bench is weak, especially defensively, and I guess it is, but that's a different kind of criticism: as long as their center-backs stay healthy, they're good.)

Ah yes, the team version of TWW's obsession with who is "world class" and who isn't.

Is Valencia a world class winger? Is Coutinho world class? Mata is almost world class but just barely. City is world class but not really, there are only 3 teams that are allowed that distinction.

Just because you may not be able to beat every single team in Europe and win Champions League does not mean you are not "world class." City's starting to show how good they really are after a rocky start and like I said at the beginning of the season, I think they will walk away with the league. Comfortably winning a top European league puts you in a "world class" discussion, I think (as gross as that makes me feel, knowing it has to apply to last year's United team)

Lol at the discussion of European Elite. So hilariously sad. Also FYI people an English team has been in the finals of 7 of 9 Champions League finals. They have won 3. Spain 3 Germany 1 and Italy 2. The British winners have been 3 different teams. The Spanish winners were all the same team. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
