haha, no. That is an image I got when I googled bad makeup. I think it's a good example of one of those instances where you can see how it would be a good style in theory, but the application makes it like ... what did you just do to yourself? And that is what happens when I try to follow tutorials.

I know nothing, ddk. Really. I can kind of do the natural look. A smoky eye would be awesome. I guess just show me how to put more than the basics on and not look like a hooker.

where can i find a masculine bedroom set? i picked up a few things to redecorate the bedroom after the split up but the new comforter is less than appealing after looking at it for a week. haven't had much luck at BB&B.

macys? they carry nautica and calvin klein stuff I believe and thats usually more neutral than girly

they're having a 20% off sale right now

edit: macy's has a whole men's bedding section online. some of them are questionable but there's a decent amount to choose from

I really like this Lacoste set

^^ duvet is plain white that you would purchase a cover for.

comforter is less of a pain in the ass

A duvet is a slip cover to put over a comforter/goose down quilt. A comforter is a stand alone piece.

I highly recommend the down comforter/duvet cover as opposed to the comforter. Duvets you can switch out whenever you feel like and they're easier to wash.

plus nothing is as awesome as cuddling up on goose down

maybe just buy the duvet and match the other stuff with cheaper pieces? or try the sale section of a different BB&B. they all vary by store

It cost me like $100 to get my featherbed dry cleaned. It was a super nice gift so it was worth it.

But, in the future, I will be buying cheap ones and just tossing them out.

Down comforters should be cheaper than featherbeds to dry clean, but for some of them, it may be cheaper to buy new than it is to get them dry cleaned.

I dunno about tossing them out, the $100 ones are shitty. I had a $300 Pacific Coast duvet that my husband convinced me to throw out over dust mite allergy concerns when we moved in together, saying dry cleaning wouldn't decontaminate it enough. I'm still waiting on the replacement 4 years later; meanwhile, he never vacuums anything. Wish I'd just had the thing dry cleaned. They probably don't make 'em like they used to either

A duvet is a stand-alone piece like a comforter is a stand-alone piece. They are similar and the terms are often used interchangeably but they are slightly different. A duvet COVER is a cover to put over a duvet or you can put it over a comforter of similar dimensions as well.

^^^The $100 was for a featherbed. Google says a down comforter should be $30-40.

If it's a nice one, then I would probably get it dry cleaned, but I'd do it less often than recommended to save money.

We are switching from bed-in-a-bag comforters to a duvet after le wedding. I don't really know anything about choosing a duvet because I have never had one. Any recommendations for a noob? As far as stores we are only doing Target and C&B, but we also have an open online registry if we should ask for one from a department store/BB&B.

I am a little sensitive to down in that if I put my face in a down pillow that doesn't have a good pillowcase on it, it gets itchy. I don't think it will be a big deal to get a down duvet, but is that a dumb call on my part? Are there decent synthetic ones?

I forget, are you in Charlotte?

If so, you have West Elm, Crate & Barrel, and Ikea all available. And although 75% of their selection kind of sucks, Target always has a handful of decent designs making up that last 25%.

just make sure you get a down comforter with a high thread count and probably a duvet cover with a higher count as well. it will keep the feathers from escaping

as for the covers, I've found that you need to check the dimensions (don't just go based on size labels). definitely go for a zipper rather than a button closure and try and find a comforter/duvet cover combo that are able to attach. like you can button them together. it keeps the comforter from getting twisted up in the cover.

^i do know it's best, with down, to get one that's quilted so the feathers don't bunch up in the corners and it becomes thin in the middle. i always hated that.

i thought they all came quilted? i've never seen one that wasn't. but yea you're right

the smaller the quilt size the more uniform the feather distribution will be

We got our current comforter from the Macy's hotel collection. It is solid white, but also comes in a deep red and a dark grayish blue. There will be sales for president's day and there are always coupons.

i think a bedspread is more like a quilt rather than a comforter. quilts aren't filled where as comforters are.

A bedspread is going to be flat...might be quilted, but it won't have much loft (fluffy) to it

I saw some great options for you on the Ikea site!
