^^,^^^ yep pretty much. They're always much thinner, often bigger (might drape to the floor) and aren't as warm and fluffy as a comforter. 2/8/2013 11:50:55 AM |

I got a plain white duvet at Ikea for the guest room for like 30 bucks, no covers yet, but I like the idea of being able to change them any time I want, and the prices were great. Some were only 15 bucks. Ambrosia1231 taught me a super easy way to deal with the duvet and cover. Turn the cover inside out and safety pin the bottom corners and then flip the duvet into the cover. They also have coverlets for light cover, summer and such, and we got one for ten bucks I think. 2/8/2013 11:51:49 AM |

my mom makes nice duvet covers with sheets (or fabric) and piping. she will sew little ties on the corners inside, so you can tie the corners of the duvet and hold them in place. she's so cute 2/8/2013 1:14:39 PM |

well, when you don't want to dictate your room around what is available at BB&B, or you want to make the underside a fuzzy fleece for your daughter's dorm XL twin bed because she didn't like messing with top sheets and most duvet covers are scratchy as fuck, you find the time 2/8/2013 1:20:55 PM |

what's the secret to getting rid of static on certain types of clothing?
i do my own laundry and do a pretty good job. Always use a dryer sheet, etc etc. but i have like 2 pairs of gym shorts and a couple dry-fit shirts that are just static nightmares. every other piece of clothing in the load will be fine except for these. Is it just the winter weather + polyester material?
i've done the quick fix of spraying hairspray on them. I used to have a static remover spray but that's long gone. ] 2/8/2013 1:28:35 PM |

I'm going on a trip to southeast Asia, and I'm planning to bring a maxi skirt for modesty and sun protection. I've never worn one before because I think they make me look like an FLDS member. Any advice on how to avoid the sister-wife look? ] 2/9/2013 9:03:29 AM |

Hey, good call on that description. I love maxi dresses but always feel like a morman mom-sister. I could never put my finger on that description- but you nailed it.
I would try to find a dress that doesn't have one of those wacked out high waist lines ..... less frumpy....and get a matching jacket- maybe like a khaki one that you can roll the sleeves up or something?
I dunno...but good call. and have a great trip. 2/9/2013 10:00:11 AM |

I'm no lady, but why not just go with a sundress and a light jacket or get a sarong while you're there? Either one is going to look better and probably be something you could wear again regularly as opposed to a full length skirt which honestly you'll probably never pull out of your closet again. 2/9/2013 10:03:51 AM |

Maxi skirts should be worn in a funky pattern so you can be kind of spacey and call yourself an earth mother.
^^^She mentioned sun protection and modesty.
How does a sundress accomplish either of those aims?
All boys need to GTFO.

sparkly is great (have you met me?)...just sparkly and then ruching can become a problem and add a lot of bulk, even if you are petite. 2/9/2013 7:40:00 PM |

DDK, I actually have that one pinned on Pinterest as one to try if I can find it in store.
The gray dress is a Nicole Miller dress that is on ideeli right now. I could buy it for almost as cheap as renting it from Rent the Runway. 2/9/2013 7:43:06 PM |

Speaking of Nicole Miller...this is something I'm looking at for this year's Jimmy V. I love jersey because its comfy and I do a lot of moving around at the gala. And will make me look slimmer

I've pretty much decided to cut my hair like Willow from season 4 of Buffy the vampire slayer. The troll episode where it is all curly pretty much sealed the deal. I just spent several minutes taking pictures of my TV screen with my phone so I have lots of examples for when I go to the salon. Now, I need to find a moderately priced salon to go to. It will be a birthday treat, so I could spend more money than usual, and I might put some color into it, too. I usually spend only about 40 bucks, but I want someone good and worth the money. 2/11/2013 3:59:53 PM |

Is it taboo to wear a shorter dress to a military ball? Since you say you are petite, I would go with a dress like this: http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/eliza-j-dress-one-shoulder-beaded-satin-cocktail-dress?ID=596604&CategoryID=5449&LinkType=#fn=DRESS_OCCASION%3DEvening/Formal%26sp%3D4%26spc%3D207

hahaha I would check the invitation. Black tie usually calls for long formal dresses, but you can get away with cocktail if it's SUPER dressy (and not just a stupid sparkly applique on the waist). White tie, you better not even think about wearing short.
begonias I'm so proud of you I'm streaming fashion week (so happy) and there's a shit ton of blue and black combinations!!! 2/11/2013 5:16:14 PM |
