holy shit, gottfried is absolutely killing it. It's pretty early to give up on all those guys ranked higher, but for two top 35 guys i think its a good gamble.

we're not at that level yet where he can afford to wait on the cockteases, they are still a little too much of a long shot

gg to Gott and the staff for pulling two more top-50 recruits. Welcome aboard to the twins as well. Really excited for the future of State basketball. Hope we can keep this coaching staff together though as you know the assistants are going to start getting attention from other schools if we translate this into more on-court success.

I am very scared of all this hype. Name the last time NCSU entered a season with hype and actually met or exceeded expectations. This is NC State. We shut the bed when hyped, and shock the world when we are suppose to suck. We also know how to shut the bed when we are suppose to suck. I am ready for some change! Plz2win.

Gott is under contract for 6 years at almost 2 million a year. There is no way Debbie lets him go. Especially if he continues this rise.

[Edited on October 11, 2012 at 12:34 PM. Reason : She'll pay him whatever he wants and I will gladly support it.]

[Edited on October 11, 2012 at 12:37 PM. Reason : I think he's the 3rd highest paid coach in the ACC now. Someone find the stats on this.]

plus he has something like 5 kids in local school systems. I doubt he leaves for anywhere in the next 5-7 years. After his youngest graduates high school, and if his tenure here has run its course he may take a swipe at UCLA.

I am not concerned about Gott leaving, but Moxley and Early are going to get targeted.

Why would it be his dream job? Because he coached under Wooden? His alma mater was Alabama right? We saw how that went.

Thought this was funny

"We'll probably be roommates," Cody said. "I've dealt with him for 17 years, so why not."

Did he ever say UCLA is his dream job? Or is that just speculation based on him being an assistant there over 15 years ago?

i haven't heard of this... it'd be a great idea though.

and probably the reason people are under the impression that he pines for ucla b/c he brings up ucla all the time.

don't leave me, mark gottfried.

Even if he leaves, at least now we have finally dispelled the stupid idea that you can't win/recruit at NC State with the two gods of basketball next door.

Granted, Jeff Goodman and Gary Parrish will still say that, but they're fools anyway.

honestly, if it's going to happen the time is coming this season. ben howland's seat could not be hotter after that SI article, and gottfried's stock could not be higher. if the team performs this year and ucla does not, it's this offseason or never.

Ben Howland's seat cooled down with that recruiting class. I expect them to have a pretty good year and start back on the upswing.

Haven't been reading every article, but people seem to think they'll only miss a couple of games.

And of course he talks about them all the time...he coached under JOHN FUCKING WOODEN. You don't think Coach K and Dean Smith's assistants talk them up all the time?? Combined, they don't have the number of titles that Wooden has.

I'm sure Kellie Harper never says a word about Pat Summit...

Ha...I knew that couldn't be correct.

He still talks about him all the time (talks more about Wooden than UCLA).

"Many of you might know that new NC State head coach Mark Gottfried got his start as an assistant under Jim Harrick at UCLA. What many may not know is that during his time out west Gottfried was tutored by 10 time national champion coach, and hall of famer, John Wooden."

I didn't realize he was tutored by Wooden. I don't know why but I thought he was an assistant but that makes no sense since Gottfried would have been 11 years old in Wooden's last year (1975). I thought Wooden lasted into the 80s. LOL I'm getting senile.
