"The award-winning (it received an Emmy for best comedy show last year) and critically praised Arrested Development, which Fox has stuck with despite low ratings, may be about to see its further development arrested. The network announced on Friday that it will pull the show from its schedule during the November sweeps and plans to air reruns of its new Prison Break in its Monday time period instead. Reporting on the network's action, Reuters said on Friday, "Removing a struggling show during sweeps, while falling short of outright cancellation, is usually a sure sign a network has given up hope on a series." One writer posted a message on MediaWeek's "Programming Insider" site commenting: "The cancellation of Arrested Development is a perfect example why the 18-34 audience is leaving the broadcast networks in droves. The nets produce a very limited number of series that appeal to us, under-promote them, move them around, and then cancel them. I can't count how many times this has happened to great shows in the last few years. Everyone I know in this age group -- everyone -- watches and loves Arrested Development. If the ratings aren't showing this, maybe there is be a problem with the sample. This show is a yuppie phenomenon.""

You know why this sucks twice as hard? Someone has kept a thread about the pitiable "The War at Home."

Damn....wish I had seen that deal....would have bought both and sold season one to some poor schlub on half.com.
I said the same thing about The War at Home before, it doesnt even fit in with the other Sunday night shows, plus its just not that funny. Kitchen Confidential was a good pairing with AD, but having a struggling Arrested lead off a night, any night, was a mistake. Unsurprisingly, all of the multi-camera sitcoms on FOX are in ideal timeslots, while the single-camera, non-laughtrack comedies are either on hiatus or shipped off to Friday night.

I'm just praying to all manner of deities that NBC picks up AD and sticks it with The Office/Earl/Scrubs.

Anyone know anything about the rumors of Arrested being cancelled or at least having the last half of its season not renewed (and if those are different)?

Read the thread. FOX has not picked up the back nine episodes of season three as of yet, and shows no signs of doing so, meaning the effective death of Arrested Development. With that said, FOX has also not committed to cancelling the show. In addition, NBC appears to have put in motion the cancellation of "Joey," and are reportedly planning to move "The Office" and "My Name is Earl" to Thursday nights. It's definitely a long shot, but there's a chance that NBC might pick up AD to throw on to Thursday as well if FOX decides to cut it loose. The one thing that's certain is that no cable network outside of the premiums (HBO/Showtime) has the cash to produce AD in its current scope.

is there talk of NBC picking it up or are we just hoping? There's got to be someone out there that will pick it up. What about HBO? It seems like the type of show that they would put on the air.

Wasn't ALI G a show in europe first?

yeah, i was thinking about that recently too. If Nielson doesn't track digital (including HD) or satellite viewership they are really screwing over the advertisers that rely on their numbers, and viewers who are effected by programming decisions based on their numbers.

What has always been (or at least for the last 30-40 years) they key demographic for advertisers? 18-34 year old (sub)urbanite men. Why? because they generally have the most disposable income and are apparently easily influenced into buying shit through advertisements (although this group I think is increasingly becoming blind and callous to advertising - but nonetheless it's still the group with the most money to burn).

So what demographic would most nerds/geeks/technophiles fit into? 18-34 year old citydwelling men. They love to spend money on gadgets and toys, and anyone with an HDTV and digital cable has disposable income, so ratings groups and advertisers should be catering to us..... errr, I mean them....

nielson doesn't track digital or satellite or HD users? We're the ones I would want to advertise to if I were in that business. Hell, I get duped on everything from Samsung's DLP commercials to Domino's 555 deal.

^ha, i've def been duped into that 555 deal

its so not a deal when its 5 days later and you still have pizza in your fridge

instead of investigating the BCS, congress should investigate the ratings process...

i mean, there are easier and more accurate ways of finding out who is watching what without having to have 1 person represent 18,000, or whatever the latest figures are...

something seriously does. it baffles me how this show isn't getting its due (besides the emmys, in which it still doesn't get enough). probably the best series i've ever seen, and america and Nielsen are too stupid to handle it.
