octavio is only good in the eighth inning, so for anyones sake who is looking at him, i hope youre looking for him as the setup guy.
also, lidge-dotel-wagner = best 7-8-9 combo ever. we wouldnt have lost the series with them. 11/29/2005 12:44:14 PM |

i read somewhere that the rangers are pursuing him
seems a bit risky, but i'd be willing to take that risk -- especially with this year's weak market11/29/2005 12:52:54 PM |

Quote : | "Texas wants Dotel Nov 27 - The Rangers are trying to sign relief pitcher Octavio Dotel, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Dotel had reconstructive elbow surgery in June while with the Oakland A's. A deal for Dotel, who is expected to be ready in April, could get done at the end of the winter meetings, the Star-Telegram reports.
However, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Cardinals have shown interest in Dotel as well. His agent, Dan Horwits, said the Cardinals have called him regarding Dotel and that Dotel's willingness to be a setup man has attracted more interest." |

Looking
Nothing more. Beane would want a ton for him and I doubt it's anything more then a look. Anyway, how can you fault a GM for looking at every available option to try and improve the team? Most fans would kill for a GM like that. They still aren't even going to top last years payroll of $105M.

oh i can't fault a GM for going after talent the way minaya is, i just dislike the fact that large market teams can practically buy a championship nowadays
i'm a fan of homegrown talent, and while the mets have done that to an extent, their definetly having a balls to the wall, yankee-esque offseason
and i don't know that beane would have an outrageous asking price for zito
the braves got hudson for a few iffy prospects that haven't panned out at all. i don't know a thing about the mets farm system, but a couple prospects and a big bat should get things done. especially after the A's signed loaiza, they're loaded with starters

Here is some Cardinals news!
Nov 30 - The Cardinals likely will have another position to fill. Second baseman Mark Grudzielanek has received offers from several clubs, and the Mets are the leading contender, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. 11/30/2005 11:34:32 AM |

well forget that last post about raffy, the cubs seem to have a much better offer on the table
from the AJC:
Quote : | "Braves free-agent shortstop Rafael Furcal is leaning toward signing with the Chicago Cubs. A source familiar with negotiations said Furcal received a five-year offer from the Cubs that was significantly greater than he was offered by the Braves, in dollars and contract length. The race for Furcal is down to two or three teams -- Braves, Cubs and possibly the Los Angeles Dodgers -- with a decision expected within a few days." |

Listen people, I have been trying to tell you that Minaya is NOT a good GM... he left the expos farm system dry and now he is overspending in NY, he has no discretion... ask yourself something... Omar signed Benson to an absurd contract and now he is trying to dump that contract in less than a year. WTF? 12/1/2005 8:32:16 PM |
NyM410 J-E-T-S 50085 Posts user info edit post |
^ the deal didn't go down. MSG misreported it. It isn't going to happen at all now. Stupid MSG.. Also, you have to remember when Omar was GM in Montreal everyone and their mother thought that the team wasn't going to be around (contraction anyone). He HAD to have a win now mentality. I've been thrilled with Omar. He is working in a confined budget and the payroll will be the same as next year despite the VAST increase in available funds via Sportsnet NY.. the Wilpon owned 'Mets network.'
Anyway. This site is from a Mets fan but it is a GREAT source for all rumors. The guy has connections throughout baseball and I get all my information through it pretty much. He posts almost every Olney, Kjirkjian, Gammons report that is found and always has some pretty good insights from around the league. Take it or leave it..

i doubt they mets get manny, and i prefer they keep milledge, but just look at the lineup if he somehow found his way to flushing
1Reyes 2Beltran 3Manny 4Delgado 5Wright 6Floyd 7Diaz/Nady 8Hernandez/Molina or whoever they sign to catch
If Beltran improved at all on his 2005 numbers, that 2-6 stretch would be the toughest in baseball
Even without ManRam, a combo of Wright, Cliff and the Carlos boys has to rank among the toughest in the league, trailing only the foursomes of Pujols/Edmonds/Rolen/Sanders in St Louis and Jeter/Arod/Sheffiled/Giambi across town
Watch out for the Rangers. With Texiera/Blaylock/Soriano/Young, theyre right up there too, and by far the youngest 12/2/2005 10:00:44 AM |

it would be interesting to have dotel back with the stros and behind lidge. as i said before, he was a dominant 8th inning guy with us and he might have just not clicked in the AL. but i think having a dotel-wagner duo would be the one of the top 8-9 combos again if octavio gets back to old form. but maybe he can be a solid closer somewhere, and maybe im just sore at his poor showing as the stros closer.

Plus we get to keep the first round draft pick FWIW

Also. The Mets will likely sign Mark Grudzielanek to play 2B on Thursday. He has said that he will wait until then to sign so the arbitration hearing period is over and the Mets won't lose a second round draft pick.
My sense of it is that Vazquez/Zito will be the final piece of the puzzle this offseason.
The Red Sox have also said they will trade Manny Ramirez hopefully by Thursday. Personally, I'm not buying into that. I have a suspicion he will be in RF in front of the Monster again next year. I can't imagine the Angels or Rangers taking him up on it and Omar Minaya seems deadset AGAINST giving up Lastings Milledge and/or Aaron Heilman -- who would be the centerpiece to any impending deal 12/5/2005 11:10:44 AM |

Well, the DH was shuffled among Giambi, Williams, Sheffield and Matsui. Giambi and Bernie were the two most frequent DHs. With Williams probably on the way out and Tino not resigned, who knows.
I mean who knows. I don't know how viable this rumor is at all. It's not being reported on ESPN.com or SI.com. It may be up in NY/NJ, but I'm in SC and don't know for sure.
