DeputyDog, you'll probably get shit for it at EB Games, probably some like $30-40. You would better off selling it on eBay or here.

I had a dream where I am standing at a Microsoft outlet and I ask them if they have an XBOX shortage, and they were like no we have enough but no one is buying it.

I was like ok man I'll buy one.

^^ i know right, but it is easier than trying to sell on ebay and: few bucks > 0 + wasted shelf space (assuming you'll hardly ever or never play that game again)

I never take stuff back to EB to cash out. You pretty much get pennies on the the dollar.

I figure that the chance that I'll dig it out of the closet and play it again is worth more that the $20 bucks they would have given me on hundreds of dollars of investment. Happened with the Sega Saturn. Some guy brought a huge box of games in (right before the Saturn demise) and traded it for like 2 used dreamcast games. I was waiting in line also and I offered to buy a few - which really pissed the guy at the counter off . I would have easily given him 10x the amount of value he ended up getting from one of those game shops.

shrug i traded in my ps2 and about 18 xbox/ps2 games that were old and i wouldnt play anymore. got about 200 in credit after all the bonuses and whatnot. that really isnt so terrible considering what a used ps2 and games cost (especially those particular games). im sure i couldnt have gotten much more if any.

that said i coulda kept about 8 of the games and lost only 10-15 bucks. i didnt realize it right then, but again im almost certain ill never play those particular games again and i needed to get rid of some closet junk (it really adds up).

all the games you buy on credit dont have sales tax either so thats easily another 10-15 bucks.

I'm going to seriously walk into a store in the end of January, take a picture of the mile high stack of Xbox360's and post on the wolfweb with the caption

"HAHAHA YOU CAMPED OUT AND I STILL GOT ONE BEFORE A DECENT GAME CAME OUT"

You won't care though. You'll be too busy playing computer video games.

congrats on making yourself look like an idiot

How about this, instead of me calling every fucking phone number in the book to FIND one, since you obviously are so fucking desperate to be right on this one, then why don't you start calling every fucking best buy, cc, toys r us, wal mart, sams club, Tom & Dick's TV shack, and who-the-fuck-else could possibly be carrying them, and you tell me that every single one is cleaned out.

Because you have as much statistical proof to back up your claim as I do.

Perfect Dark Zero and King Kong are terrible games.

Call of Duty 2 is nice but one dimensional as are PGR3 and FIFA. None of these titles are "must have" especially considering that CoD2 and sports games are available for the computer and other consoles.

I would say Geo Wars is the best game on the Xbox360 considering its only 15 bux and insanely fun.

I don't really have to do that, because you wanna know who already has? EVERYONE THAT WANTS AN XBOX 360.

You act like just because someone doesn't live in a big city they don't play video games. You act like just because someone lives in a backwoods hick town in the middle of nowhere, that they don't have the internet, access to eBay, and the desire to make a quick 200% increase on their investment. You actually think there's a store somewhere where 360s are just sitting on the shelf and people walk by it and don't know or care what this newfangled dee-vise is. And that's just simply not the case. It's national news how there are shortages everywhere. And in this day and age, most people know about ebay, and you're the idiot if you think that there's ANYWHERE in this country that people are walking by a 360 in the store and not buying it.

translation: I know I'm wrong, but there's no possible way you can call several thousand stores and verify that, so I'm going to continue talking as much shit as possible.

I just like how you've backpedaled from saying that two weeks after launch you would be able to saunter into any store and pick up a 360 with no problems, to having your entire argument rest on the hope that there might possibly be one lonely xbox collecting dust on the bottom shelf of Bob's Bargain Electronix in Stillwater, OK.

As I've already stated, I have free long distance, so no thanks. Tell her to save up her money so she can buy all those Xbox 360s that are so prevalant in her local walmart. I hear you can make a killing with those things on eBay.

Good thing Best Buy is on that list.

Or Sam's Club.

OH SHIT, THEY'RE NOT?

In fact, Best Buy has said for a long time that in-store pickup of XBox 360s ordered online won't happen.

Doesn't seem like EBGames is letting you check in store availability.

Circuit City won't even let you check in-store availability. All they say is that they're sold out on the web.

99%, huh?

Exactly, but they still show up in inventory...

That site DOES track in-store inventory...http://xbox.clambert.org/map_inventory/index because that's how I knew that there were 24 IN THE STORE at Best Buy in Burlington...that's how I have an X360 in my living room.

^durr. that was just for the two shipments to Best Buy. That paged you linked to was just for the Dec. 18th release. It does NOT track local inventory, it just said how many they were going to get. NOT how many they have at one given time.

I think at this point they are starting to trickle in randomly and not in giant waves. I know EB Games in Cary is getting their 3rd shipment in tomorrow. Of course they only got 8 in their second shipment. It may be possible to find one randomly at a target or walmart somewhere, but I'm sure they won't be on the shelves very long. At least for the next month or two.

Walmart in Burlington didn't get any on the 18th ...I checked there before I waited at Best Buy because I was gonna keep one and sell one...so it must be completely random for Walmart (as in not every Walmart gets them at the same time)

I'm not adding anything to the conversation argument but I thought "casually walking into a store and picking one up" implied that every store had a stack of them ready to be purchased. "Casually walking into a store and picking one up" means not having to call 5 stores across town in an attempt to find one.

Is the argument;
1) You can't casually walk into a store and buy one if you'd like to
or
2) There isn't one single x-box 360 on any shelf at any store in the entire USA

I guess it is a moot point because unless you are counting the display model both are true. If you could buy one on a shelf somewhere then why would people be able to get away with selling them on e-bay for $1K? How do they charge $1K if people could easily pick one up for less than half that? (it's because they can't) I know that I for one would call every store within a 200 mile radius to pay $400 before I'd drop $1K on e-bay.

Arguing that there are some on a shelf someplace is pretty ridiculous. Shows my age, but imagine trying to find a Cabbage Patch doll in a store 5 MINUTES after the store opened. You couldn't.

i think it is somewhere in between, to me at least. theres been plenty of ppl whove reported going into places like CC or costco and getting one without having to wait in line 8 hours, which was originally my point when i made a similar assertion.

im wasnt saying every store would have a shelf, but you could find one if you went to some, maybe even a good amount, of places. i was partially wrong, but not fully in my opinion. i truthfully beleive i could have gotten one at regular price without waiting in line if i wanted one (might have had to get up earlier, but thats it).

^^ Glad we got the official word in the thread now.

The argument turned retarded for both sides and I think they realize that.

I'm sure we all can agree there might be one on a shelf at this very moment. The idea that you can stroll down to any random store and just pick it up is absurd. If it was that easy (unless you luck out), there wouldn't be threads, posts, and links about which stores have them on the shelves right now.

If you put enough effort into it you might be able to find one. At that point though, how much is your time worth? The premium on Ebay might not be so bad. I never understood the hatred for the initial price hikes on Ebay. It sucks you are paying more than retail, but the reality is you are paying some kid to have stood in line for you for hours (on the cold, rain , etc).

New cars (Prius and MINI comes to mind) are often sold at premiums by the dealers and people gladly pay to be the first to get it. I have never understood how with consoles BB and the like just don't charge double opening day. I mean sell a few at retail for the die hards and sell a few to the people willing to pay.

^^ shrug i paid a little extra for WoW so i could join my friends who had started playing at launch. week later they were out at normal prices, so i wasted 10-20 bucks but i also got a full week of gaming in (quite a few levels).

so i agree, if you really want it for xmas (have a kid who really wanted it) and have the extra cash, i dont see a problem with paying 5-600. anything higher is a bit much.

This may be a shocking revelation to you, but the marketplace has changed a bit since the late 80s/early 90s.

A $400 console is a bit different than a $15 doll, not to mention the fact that the growth of eBay is part of the reason why there aren't any on shelves anymore. People who would buy Cabbage Patch Dolls and try to price hike them had a much smaller audience to do so to. With the rise of eBay and all the news stories of them going for 10x the normal price, everyone who wasn't an initial buyer of a 360 (in addition to a lot of people that were) became a reseller.

There are 9,000 or so 360s on eBay right now. You put all of those back on store shelves in addition to all the ones who have been sold by 18 year olds with their first credit card trying to make a quick buck and suddenly there has been a huge dent made in the supply shortage.

It's really nothing like any of the Christmas toy shortages before.

^^I wasn't talking about factors that led to a shortage, I was talking about the shortage itself.

One thing has not changed. People want one and can't get them. That was the point.

Maybe there are 9000 of them on e-bay. If you put them back on the shelf I doubt it would make a dent in the supply shortage. There are probably a half million (made up I know) people that want one. 9000 would do nothing.

See and I would have thought that calling him out on it 35 days ago would have been good enough.

or you know, maybe pointing that exact point on my first post of this page.

9,000 right now which means 9,000 available after just about a month after the product was released. 5,000 auctions will be over by today.

Assuming that on average, even 3,000 units a day were sold on eBay that means over a span of 25 days 75,000 units moved through eBay. 15% of your random "half-a-million people want one" figure. I'd say that's more than just a dent.
