If I were the giants I would pick a LB, judging by the "ass-raping" a mediocre deshaun foster put on them in the first round.

Wow, I love Jimmy Williams in the 1st, McClover in the 3rd, and MCCARGO!!! in the 4th. Byrd is a fatass though forget him. Get Bullocks or someone instead.

unless i missed something, there is no way that kiwi will slip to the bottom of the 2nd round.......

...is there?

Carolina better take lendale if he is available, there is talk now of him slipping to the 2nd round. i also find it hard to belive that carolina won't go for a lb somewhere, unless they take the "best player available" route.

kiwi, like Lendale, hasn't really been that impressive at the combine & proday. I don't think he'll fall that far, but I wouldn't expect him to be a #1.

As for carolina, RB, TE, & DB are all needs though as well as LB, so I can't really argue against any of the 1st 3 picks. And it looks like Thomas Davis will be playing LB anyway. Maybe the 4th pick (or if carolina gets Chicago's #3 for RManning) should be LB though.

i disagree with TE being a need. we have several TE's that do exactly what they are asked to do (mainly block/ check down passes). our offense doesn't need a te to have 50+ catches per year.

there are only so many plays to go around, and with 30-35 running plays, 10 or so to smitty, and 5-10 to other receivers/backs, there aren't many more touches left.

that makes no sense at all

an offense with less playmakers is better than one with more?

What do you say to the people who are obsessed with the team having a receiving tight end? Derek, Raleigh, NC

I think what people might not understand is that there are five eligible receivers in the game. By virtue of the way we move people around, the tight end gets into one of the receiving spots sometimes, but his major job is as a blocker in pass protection. He still has to be effective for us in certain downs and distances and field positions, though. Our tight ends have been that way. When they have gotten down in the red zone, they have been much more effective. We don't feature one in particular, but our tight ends usually end up with about 45-50 catches between them. I think we do a pretty good job. We just don't have one who is going to catch 90 balls because we're not set up that way. There are teams in the League who have tight ends who catch that many, but if you look closely, you'll see they don't have a wide receiver who catches that many. If our tight end was the guy who was best suited to make big plays down the field, then we'd give it to him. Our best asset was Steve Smith last year, Muhsin Muhammad the year before, and Stephen Davis the year before that. We're going to give them the ball.

"

I didn't just pull it out of my ass, i'm pretty sure henning would know what the team needs, considering he is the offensive coordinator.

im pretty sure spreading the field with dangerous players is the way offenses work best

just ask the rams, colts, and hell, even my giants

limiting your options on offense is just stupid no matter how you look at it

going after a player you dont need and won't use is stupid as well. what good would having an outstanding receiving te do if he gets the same amount of touches that our current te's get?

also, a lot of times, the good receiving te's aren't as good at blocking. it would actually hurt carolina if they put a te on the field that could catch better than mangum, sideman, gaines, but couldn't block as well.

Im not against getting a receiving te, but there are much more pressing needs that should be addressed first and foremost, and i bet the panthers will agree come draft weekend.

the rams and colts do it mainly with receiver spread formations, and rb's catching out of the backfield, and your giants did a really good job of scoring in the playoffs with that great TE.

exactly

you change your gameplan

your offense isnt exaclty what one would call "versatile"

again, spreading the field with dangerous targets

not limiting themselves to two WR's

and i believe the Giants scored the third most points in the NFL last year

no one ever claimed it was. Ask anyone, we live by the run, die by the run. although smitty changed that to a degree last year, everything still starts with the run, and i think that a good blocking te is more important to us than a receiving te (both for pass protection and the run). we have 2 very good receivers now, and a third that will be a factor by the end of next season (carter). i just think that we are fine at te. The only area that te is really a liability for us is the red zone, but we still get a few touchdowns a year from our te's

also, its like henning said above, most teams that have a really good receiving te, don't have a go to receiver (giants- plaxico was great until big games, then he would vanish. Chargers- gates is by far the number one receiving threat, followed by lt out of the backfield, Chiefs- behind gonzalez, they get it done with a group of average receivers, and good backs, ravens- heap was about the only good thing about the ravens last year ect....)

i disagree. having a back like white will all us to pound the ball inside, while also allowing foster to switch it up and hit the edges, and catch passes out of the backfield.... without getting hurt (hopefully).

Like the 1-2 combo of davis and foster 3 years ago. They gave the panthers tremendous versatility.

so you like the 1-2 combo when subbing in running backs

but not in subbing TE's for different personnel packages

we do that! that is my point, it's not broke so don't fix it. We have 3 very capable te's for what their asked to do, and even if we get another one, he will be asked to do basically the same thing, so what's the point?

There are better Tight Ends than what the Panthers have. The ones the Panthers have are not perfect. I am not saying the Panthers need to spend an early pick on a tight end, but it could definitely help take the pressure off Smith and Johnson, and could definitely be a big boost overall to the offense. The reason the tight ends don't get a lot of looks in the current Panthers offense is that they aren't good receivers. If the Panthers drafted a good catching tight end, there is no doubt his role would be expanded.

^yeah they are planning on keeping Davis. Domanick is an above average back, but they just can't pass up on Bush, especially since both are versatile (good receivers).

too bad, davis is a very good, pound it type of back who is unfortunate enough to be part of a franchise that doesn't invest in good offensive linemen. if they don't do something about that, it'll make bush look average at best.

the question is how long will they stay healthy?

I'm worried that foster will have some type of season/career ending injury early, and if we don't have another dependable back (not goings) we can kiss our season goodbye. we could recover if Jenkins got hurt, though.

Smith WAS a question mark after his broken leg but bounced back and had an incredible year.

Foster has a question mark because he hasn't gotten back and shown he is healthy, and when he does the question mark will go away.

Smith got hurt one year, Foster has been hurt almost every year he's been with the Panthers.

^^^rb is such a rough position though. there haven't been many backs to suffer multiple serious injuries their first few years, and come back to have a strong career.

Hopefully DeShaun will prove nay sayers wrong.

yeah i just figure if fox and hurney and old richardson and all the boys have faith in deshaun, i'll give them the benefit...plus when he IS healthy, he is a beast...dragging safeties 30 yards...dragging the whole eagles team 10 yards into the end zone...running all over atlanta twice last year, etc

when he is healthy, he is one of the top 10 backs to watch. i have faith in the management/coaching staff too, but when seeing him repeatedly pound it between the tackles, i cant help but worry (even though 2 of his 3 major injuries were suffered while bouncing it outside).

i would just feel much better if we had a 235 lb bruiser for the inside running.
