from replay the japanese runner defintely tagged up just after the ball was caught, it should not have been overturned. but there is no way to know how that would have affected the rest of the game so, eh. i was also expecting them to get that last out at second on that last hit by roriguez, when the second baseman looked like he slipped and missed the catch.

Man. That was a bad call. But Rodriguez gets the clutch hit (surprised griffey couldn't pop it up at least... fanned him on a high fastball).

But I'll take the W. I'd be pissed if I were japan.

Yeah, how did Tejada mess up that play. He's had to have done it 10000 times.

The Dominican fans are on pins-and-needles and ready to explode.

Dominican going on to San Diego.

Winner of Puerto Rico-Cuba tomorrow going to San Diego as well.

Japan defeated Mexico 6-1. It looks like there might be another 3-way tiebreaker.

South Korea 2-0
USA 1-1
Japan 1-1
Mexico 0-2

We're fucked unless Korea wins and we win or

a) We shut out Mexico

and

b) Japan wins in a HUGE blow out...

If USA win, Japan win and score 8 runs or more, Japan and USA go on to semifinals (3 teams finish 2-1).

Korea: 3 runs allowed in 9 innings going into tomorrow's game
Japan: 4 runs allowed in 9 innings going into tomorrow's game
USA: 10 runs allowed in 17 innings to other two

If USA win and Korea win, Korea and USA go on to semifinals.

If Korea win and Mexico win 1-0, 2-0, or 2-1, Korea and USA go on to semifinals (3 teams finish 1-2). Although this would be the ultimate case of convoluted backing in.

USA: 3 runs allowed in 9 innings going into Friday's game
Japan: 5 runs allowed in 18 innings to other two
Mexico: 6 runs allowed in 9 innings going into Friday's game

This is terrible that we can't win at our national pastime. I can't really say Im disappointed, and I think most expected one of the Caribbean teams to win anyhow.

Cuba defeat Puerto Rico 4-3 in San Juan.

Dominican Republic 2-1
Cuba 2-1
Venezuela 1-2
Puerto Rico 1-2

So one of the two semifinals in San Diego on Saturday are set: Cuba vs. Dominican Republic

In the game that could knock out the USA, South Korea and Japan are tied at 0 in the 6th.

South Korea 3-0
USA 1-1
Japan 1-2
Mexico 0-2

Simple for USA. Defeat Mexico, and they will advance to semifinals where they will play South Korea.

LOL @ us losing to our borderinf neighbors.

Canada has hockey

Mexico had Soccer

Now both have whipped our ass at our "national pastime"

In so many ways, the U.S. stands for what is wrong with sports.

Technically we split with Mexico. Dontrelle Willis' horrible pitching is why we are out, also all those stud Yankee's that couldn't hit for shit.

A coincidental point:

2005 World Cup Qualifiers in soccer:

@ Mexico City - Mexico 2, United States 1
@ Columbus - United States, 2, Mexico 0

2006 World Baseball Classic

@ Phoneix - United States, 2, Mexico 0
@ Anaheim - Mexico 2, United States 1

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/worldclassic2006/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&id=2373408

Good article that asks if it's a good thing or bad thing if we missed the Final 4 and how baseball is played differently in countries.

^ haha

You're gonna have to cheer for Japan or South Korea then Monday.

An MLB-organized event is going to have the winner with a team with no MLB players or a team with a good majority of non-MLB players.

"In my current position, I cannot pick my favorite team, but I can say I don't want Cuba to win, definitely," said Lasorda, who played professionally on the island in the 1940s and 1950s.

-Tommy Lasorda, MLB's goodwill ambassador for the World Baseball Classic.

On a side note, wouldn't it have been great if the USA had made the final. If there is one game that I think the masses would want to see on Monday night, it would have been Cuba-USA, just for the political overtones.
