actually they don't play WVU anymore. this past season was the last time they would play them for the forseeable future.

here's VT's 2006 schedule.

http://www.hokiesports.com/football/schedule.html

OOC games include:
Northeastern
Cincinnati
Southern Miss
Kent State

bahahaha and people are bitching about our schedule being easy.

Who the fuck is Northeastern? ...they're 1AA also, worse than app state on our schedule.

I'd say our schedule is comparable to theirs....Cincy is probably a little better than ECU, but who knows. ECU did improve between 04 and 05.

Northeastern is a school in Boston. i've been in one of their dorms/apartments once. very urban area. they were in the America East conference with Vermont before switching to the Colonial Athletic Association, which is where UNC-W resides. they played Vermont in the AE bball championship game 2005 game. i remember watching it, and saying to myself, "you know Vermont isn't half bad." what do they do, they end up upsetting #4 Syracuse in the first round.

Quote :
"Though it does not currently sponsor football, the recent addition of Northeastern University gave the conference the NCAA minimum of six football programs needed to sponsor the sport. For the 2007 football season, all of the Atlantic Ten Conference's football programs will join the CAA football conference, as agreed to in May 2005."

if VT doesn't score at least 60 points on Northeastern then there's something wrong. in 2004 they got beat 41-14 by HARVARD! it was 14-14 at the half, and by the end of the third quarter it was 41-14! how in the world does a team allow 27 points to be scored on them in one quarter.

check out Northeastern's stadium! that's worse than my high school's stadium and we sucked ass.

i thought it was funny that on their football page they have a "Travel with the Huskies to Virginia Tech" sponsored trip. i mean i'm sure their few diehard fans and players family members will go, but that's gonna suck having to sit through that massacre and not be a Tech fan, haha.

so who wants to get a group together to go to an away game, or all of them (- Southern Miss) for that matter. i've been to Wake, Clemson, BC, VT, and i've been in Kenan a couple of times before, but that was never during a game. i should take my brother and parents to that. it'd be a lot of fun for them i bet. i would really like to hit up UMD and UVA this year. especially UVA since they aren't in our division, so it'd be a long time before we go back up to Charlottesville again. also i want to see how weird Byrd Stadium looks in person, lol.

Yeah Id definitely have to say the two greatest games that I have ever witnessed occurred in Tallahasse and Blacksburg, VA. The last second missed field goal by VT kicker was fucking awesome, and the win in Tallahassee by Rivers in Company....ahh I cant to go to all of the away games this season!! I have a feeling the product we put on the field will have a better start then last season's squad, but we'll see...

ok i know that probably our stars on the D-line this year will be the tackles Demarcus "Tank" Tyler and DeMario Pressley, but how do you think Willie Young and Littleton Wright will fair as the Defensive ends. kind of ironic that last season our focal point on the line was the DE's and this year it will be the DT's.

Has anyone heard if Raymond Brooks is coming back for sure?

As of last fall, he was supposed to be elligible again for this fall, so if he actually comes back this summer and starts practicing, that would help a ton.

I dont know his situation though.

haven't seen this posted yet
from http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2428026

Quote :
"Spring answers: Tailbacks Andre Brown and Toney Baker couldn't be tackled this spring. The sign of a rebuilding defense? Perhaps. But perhaps there's a reason the talented Darrell Blackman is no longer in the backfield. Maybe these guys are just really good. That's the smarter bet. … As mentioned, Blackman is no longer a tailback. He moved to receiver and the early reviews are positive. In fact, don't be surprised to see him join Brown and Baker on the field at the same time throughout the season. Blackman is fast, can get deep and has good hands. Not bad tonic for the nation's 92nd ranked passing offense. … Not bad for QB Marcus Stone, either. Much was made of his struggles before halftime, but not enough about the way he always seemed to turn it around. Let's not forget the big kid was 5-1 as a starter. And word is his confidence and mental preparation -- specifically his understanding of the playbook -- have vastly improved. … Face it: a football player with the name Curtis Crouch belongs in the trenches. And coach Chuck Amato is more than happy to accommodate. Amato thinks Crouch, who played quite in the bit in the bowl game last season, is going to be something special -- and sooner rather than later.

Fall questions: The offense showed some signs this spring, but it's going to have to show some points this autumn. The defense simply lost too much star power to carry the team again this year. The Wolfpack didn't tally more than 24 points against a single Division I-A team last season. If that happens again this year, Amato might as well pack up the vans. … Can the unit convert on an occasional third down play? That's the key. Only one team in the entire country converted at a worse rate than State (26 percent). … As mentioned above, the defense took a major, major hit. All-ACC end Manny Lawson ran out of eligibility and DT John McCargo, LB Stephen Tulloch and the great Mario Williams skipped town for the NFL. The staff feels pretty good about Tank Tyler in the middle, but the five players competing for the two end spots? One game of experience between them. Yes, one. … So is this "Reggie Davis the linebacker" thing for real? The senior has moved around from tailback to fullback, and in the last week of spring practice, linebacker. Instantly showing great instincts, Davis turned some heads and then led all linebackers in tackles during the spring game. Who knew? With Pat Lowery the only returnee with proven consistency, Davis might have an impact."

maybe i'm missing something, but who is crouch?

Blackman has a good shot at it, considering he was the nation's leading kick returner for awhile last season.

[Edited on May 2, 2006 at 8:04 PM. Reason : or maybe just the ACC; either way, he's talented]

Between Barrett, Dunlap, and Blackman, thats a pretty beast group of receivers size wise. None of them are extremely tall, but they're all strong and should help blocking downfield tremendously. Plus blackman gives you the screen option away from the backs as well as a reverse threat and he's got more moves than tramain....and you know he'll be able to still truck some people. I personally think Marcus Stone can be as good as our offensive line will let him be because we'll be able to run/screen away from blitzes better this year. If this offense cant put up 30 points a game then its going to be a long season, but I think we have enough talent to do so.

i recommend the Clemson trip. just make sure to leave really early. the traffic is ridiculous. i want to hit up UVA and UMD this year, and possibly get to UNC with my family. i'd like to roll up into the tailgating area of UMD get out of the car, and start playing Terrapin Station by The Grateful Dead really loud so that all their fans hear it and go WTF, prior to setting up the tailgate.

does anyone else think we should get Greco or Burke time in the App. State game, and perhaps the Akron game if we fairly large lead, or should we leave Stone in there to get even more in game experience before we face a hard team in Southern Miss? i'm kind of split. i think if we get to 40+ points in the App game it'd be nice to see Greco and Burke get to split a quarter of play. now for the Akron game, it might be better to keep Stone in for a little while longer than normal to help prepare for Southern Miss. Akron is tougher than App.

i think we might redshirt burke. i think that would be the smartest thing to do for this season. if hes ready next spring, let him have control of the 1st team (esp. if stone doesnt develop). if we could have gotten him in here for this spring, i dont think we would reshirt him.

Would it be too soon to start throwing around some songs for Football intro? Yea yea, it's early, but there aint nothing else going on!

^ yo why doesn't the squad do backflips along the back of the endzone to count off the points like they used to? also i think it'd be cool to have N...C...S...U be chanted by the four sides of the stadium now that the north endzone will be bowled in.

^^ I got one.

Backfield in motion, yeah,
I'm gonna have to penalize you
Backfield in motion, baby,
You know that's against the rules.
Off sides and holdin', yeah,
You ought to be ashamed of yourself baby
Off sides and holdin' yeah,
Holdin' on to someone else
You know you're cheatin' baby,
Fakin' the bout
You know you're balkin', baby,
(oh yeah) strike three you're out
And I caught you with
Backfield in motion, yeah,
I'm gonna have to penalize you
Backfield in motion, baby,
You know that's against the rules.

First down you start cheatin' on me
Second down, I was too blind to see
Third down, you know I love you so
Fourth down, baby I got to let you go,
'Cos I caught you with your
Backfield in motion, yeah,
I'm gonna have to penalize you
Backfield in motion, baby,
You know that's against the rules.
Now you will see, ah yeah, just how I felt
You beat me to the punch honey,
But you hit me below the belt
And I caught you with your
Backfield in motion, yeah,
I'm gonna have to penalize you
Backfield in motion, baby,
You know that's against the rules.
Backfield in motion, backfield in motion...
Backfield in motion, backfield in motion...

We were told that the crowd didn't respond well the back tucks across the endzone. So last year they decided to bring out that ancient push-up board for Mr. Wuf. If any of you sat close enough, that damn board creaked and cracked every time Mr. Wuf was on it.

N-C-S-U is a great Idea. Question for all you real football fans. If the cheerleaders were to lead something like that... Would you want the N and the S on the big sides (probably being louder) or the C and U on the big sides?

i'd want the U on one of the big sides b/c it would be a really loud ending. U has a similar sound as boo, and that seems to be able to get really loud. you would used big signs right that everyone could see, right? perhaps start it at the NEZ since there will be some students there that would be more than eager to get it started, and proceed it around counter-clockwise to the big side with the other sections of students.

then it could be transferred to basketball season too.
