If I were one of the other coaches in the league (esp. K or Roy) and I knew that Herb and his coaching style basically ensured that his teams would continually be my bitch, I would be all about supporting him too. Why would you want 2 guaranteed conference wins a year to leave??

And why are the anti-Herb people considered anti-State. That could not be further from the truth. And also, why is everyone so positive that it would be worse without him?? That just seems like such a big leap of logic.

Herb inspires no confidence.

Even his supporters have to resort to arguments like "well we'll never be as good as UNC."

Thats why the man needs to go.

Not because he can or can't coach.

But because he couldn't inspire a starving horse to eat.

An ideal coach would be a cross between Amato and Sendek: managing to fire up the fanbase, techinically sound, and not a total clown.

So who else feels this: I used to anxiously go into games vs duke/unc thinking, hell yes, it's winnable, we have fight in us so throw the records out the window. Now...I anticipate games vs the cellar dwellers thinking, oh shit, I "hope" we don't get beat, just keep it close so we'll have a fuckin' chance, maybe. Mind you, I don't put this all on Herb though b/c the beginning of his employment is not where the line is drawn. But it's mostly Herb's stoic ways which has rubbed off on our players, as well as fans. Over the years, all of this bullshit about "can't fuck with duke/carolina" and "don't expect greatness" crap has really been draining.

Those numbers say a lot, against Duke, UNC, Wake and MD we have been embarrassed. And with the exception of FSU (a basketball doormat when they entered the league) and GT, we have been playing roughly .500 against the league.

You can argue all you want, but those numbers speak for themselves.

we were at the bottom of the league when he took over, and he has gradually improved the team each year since. obviously we are going to pile up some losses to the rest of the league in those early years.

by my count, here are the numbers over the last 5 years:

Boston College: 1-3

Clemson: 7-1

Duke: 2-9

Florida State: 9-1

Georgia Tech: 7-3

Maryland: 5-6

Miami: 2-1

North Carolina: 4-6

Virginia: 8-2

Virginia Tech: 2-1

Wake Forest: 5-8


The only team that has really owned us over the last 5 years has been Duke. and there's no shame in that.

I just gave the man's record over his tenure at NC State. We can massage the numbers all we want to make them say what we want them to say.

I will ask this again, because I haven't seen an answer: What would it take for you to not support Herb? And are you going to be OK with NCSU never winning an ACC or NCAA title.

If everyone is so pleased with our performance and our big problem is that we play b/t Duke and UNC, then fuck it, let's petition to withdraw from the ACC and try to join the CAA or A10 or something. Because right now, we aren't good enough for the ACC.

the first 5 years can't be held against herb b/c he was digging us from the depths of the ACC.

the last 5 are more representative of his work. no it's not perfect, we have losing records to some of the teams in the ACC over that period of time and nobody said they're happy with that.

i still see improvement though, and i see great recruits coming in and us continuing to improve.
