I'm not exactly sold on Haith just yet, but here's a plus for him. He has experience in ACC already. People have said that he understands the Tobacco Road rivalries. That said, the candidates from 'lesser' conferences might falter in making the jump to bigtime ACC bball. e.g. Marshall.

Yea it was great in that he dodged the question and made a sarcastic comment about how bad herb was.

The point is that until the last 2-3 days I can not remember anyone saying that Haith was even a good coach. Now hes being made out to be a great coach and a step up from herb, which hes not. I mean can anybody honestly tell me that they wanted this guy to be our coach before this week?

Let's see, last week we were going after Barnes and Calipari. I wanted those two, but now that they are no where to be found on the map, I want Haith. Also, your question is spcious at best. During the season I didn't expect Herb to be going anywhere, but I will be honest. Watching Miami play made me believe that Haith was a good coach.

^^ I thought virginia's coach did a great job this year but I'm not sure where or if he coached somewhere before. Outside of that I can't remember whating a game and being aware if it was the coaches second year as a coach.

And at the beginning of the season miami was what 3rd in the conference and I thought "hey maybe miami can actually be decent this year" then they proceeded to lose seven of their last nine and end up tied for 8th in the conference.

He may end up being a great coach and prove me wrong, but as of right now hes not and i don't see it happening in the near future.

That has been my feeling for about 5 years now...

No, I can honestly say that I wanted Haith as my Coach, but after going back and looking at his stats/career in the limited time I have had v. other guys we courted...I like Haith better. Even if we don't get him- I think he could be a great fit and add something to NC - ACC basketball

And it’s obvious he’s one of the few coaches around — perhaps the only guy in the country — who actively wants the job Fowler is soliciting. Unlike Rick Barnes or John Calipari, who in different ways used the State opening to enhance the landscaping around their pools, Haith isn’t looking for a fatter paycheck. He’s simply drooling at the opportunity to lift N.C. State back to national prominence. He wants to take the Rams by the horns, conquer Cameron and march all the way to the Final Four — urges Herb Sendek never vocalized. And yet he still hasn’t gotten a single call from N.C. State. Lost at sea Since Calipari jilted Wolfpack Nation on Tuesday, opting to remain at Memphis rather than accept the reported $2 million that State’s athletic administrators jammed into the overhead bins of booster Wendell Murphy’s jet, the chatter surrounding Fowler’s search has quieted. (Which I suppose by CIA logic could indicate something big is about to happen.) But lately Fowler has seemed lost at sea, tugging and wrestling just to keep his sails up. Barnes and Calipari were the whoppers he had hoped to boat. But now after those big fish swallowed the worm and made off with the hook, Fowler’s been left to cast again into a vast, cloudy sea. It seems the only names that haven’t been linked to the State job over the past few days are Phil Jackson and Justin Gainey. For starters, Haith’s head coaching record — he’s a modest 34-29 in two seasons at Miami — is about as sexy as Doris Roberts doing a Victoria’s Secret ad. Perhaps a bigger obstacle for State is the gentlemen’s agreement amongst ACC schools that ADs won’t court coaches from other member institutions. But in certain extreme cases — (See: can’t find a good coach anywhere else) — tradition must be ditched. The perfect fit In a lot of ways, Haith is exactly what State fans have been seeking. Offer him the job and he’d leave Miami without turning off the lights or closing the trunk of his car. That passion would instantly revive a team and a fan base that went on life support after a 95-71 loss to North Carolina in February. Having spent four seasons as an assistant at Wake Forest, Haith also knows the lay of the land in ACC country and has developed a reputation as a talented recruiter. No, he’s not overflowing with obvious charm. But compared to Sendek he comes off like Jamie Foxx. And if Barnes were considered the No. 1 candidate for the State job, then why not woo Haith, his former right-hand man? When everyone else is passing up your job like it’s the half-eaten roll at the end of the buffet line, perhaps it would be wise to clean off a table for the hungry man out front. As it stands, Haith is starved for attention and jumps every time his phone rings. Right now, however, the calls are coming from all the wrong places."

You never know what you've got until you put them in the circumstances.

K, I believe, was something like 7-19 his last year at Army. He got progressively worse over his tenure there. Look at what he's done for Duke.

We'd all like to have a slam dunk hire...but it doesn't look like it's happening. Don't knock Haith until you see what he can do here.

I actually like Haith now that I've done some research on him. I was under the impression he was the coach there longer then he was.. That's what I get going from memory instead of actually looking it up...

** Also, though it has nothing really to do with this thread Leitao was pretty impressive as the head coach of DePaul.. got his team to the second round with next to no talent. UVa is going to be a top half ACC team for a long time with the recruiting he is doing and the upgrade in facilities..

1) I hope we haven't called him because we're doing well with Gillispie or PJ.

2) It is Easter Weekend...although I doubt that stops most ADs.

3) He is a coach in the ACC. Although Swofford might allow Haith to come to State...I have a feeling he would at least discourage it.

Well if we cant land an A list coach then at least we can land a B list coach with growing potential in Haith.

Whoever we get better do well or he will be gone in 4-5 years so it would make sense to get a guy who cares about the school and not just using us for a stepping stone to a bigger school if he does do well. If he sucks here then maybe we can get barnes or another A lister down the road?

and he is black and that matters to most black atheletes who are usually the ones athletic enough to compete with DUKE/UNC. Youre in denial if you dont accept that. Just take a look at what paul hewitt does for Gtech.
