Oct 15 2005, Sat AWAY Devils 6 - 1 W FINAL
Dec 17 2005, Sat HOME Devils 1 - 4 W FINAL
Feb 3 2006, Fri AWAY Devils 0 - 3 L FINAL
Apr 11 2006, Tue HOME Devils 4 - 3 L FINAL OT

Not really insane. Granted, the New Jersey team they beat in October and December was a much different team, but Carolina came away with more points in the season series.

Patrick Elias has carried the team on his shoulders this season since he has been back. Without him they would already be on the golf course.

Yeah, and their division is completely bye-bye in the first round (and so will Carolina's if they lose to Montreal).

Don't most people in (northern) New Jersey go for the Rangers?

I heard a story of when the Devils won the Stanley Cup they threw a parade for it and only 20000 people turned up for it.

(Whoever wins between the Flyers and Sabres would have the most fans left I guess, my guess assuming Calgary and Carolina win out.)

1. Flyers/Sabres winner
2. Devils
3. Avalanche
4. Sharks
5. Hurricanes

BRACKET BUSTED AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Quote :
"What is it with Detroit and they always lose in the first round after winning the President's Trophy?"

I don't want to utter a certain "c word," but there's a very strong case for it:
1995-losing in the SCF to a fluke New Jersey team
1996-getting manhandled by the Avs and a thug named Claude in the conference finals after setting a regular seaon record for wins
2002-only time since 1954 that the Wings were even able to win the Cup as the overall #1 seed, and that was after rallying from a 2-3 deficit against the hated Avalanche in the conference finals
2004-burned by Calgary in round 2
2006-WTF?!?

Next to a postseason overtime game involving the Wings, nothing gets me more nervous than knowing that the Wings have another Presiden't Trophy wrapped up. Maybe it's time to stop winning the PT...maybe then they'll focus on winning the Trophy that really counts-the Stanley Cup.

That and getting a goaltender that can actually stop shots. Legace...WTF was that you called a performance?

"NBC and OLN: "Rangers gone. Red Wings gone. Stars gone. The best American team left are the Hurricanes. We're f***ed.""

That'll be true only as long as the Flyers get eliminated. If they advance, the networks will push them like crazy since they are the largest American market team left (4th largest). I'd include the Sharks if Bay Area (5th largest) residents outside of SJ gave a damn about the team.

While NBC AND OLN are fretting now, they must look at the possibilty of a Senators-Flames final. Then, they'll really be fucked while the CBC throws a ball.

I hate detroit but atleast they don't trap, I can respect that and watch them play. If it wasn't for Gionta, Elias and Gomez, I would be better off watching golf than New Jersey

but I think the Hurricanes have what it takes to be a media darling, a huge red afro, Mr Yamaguchi, Superstar on the cusp, gritty veteran with multiple broken noses, ray whitney's pre game camera antics, loud arena, exciting style of hockey, American Olympic coach, and a rookie goalie that did A PAD STACK! I may be biased, but i'd watch us

Eastern Conference is set.

1) Ottawa Senators vs. 4) Buffalo Sabres
2) Carolina Hurricanes vs. 3) New Jersey Devils

Western Conference has a game 7 between Calgary-Anaheim tomorrow to finish off the pairings.

Either:

3) Calgary Flames vs. 8) Edmonton Oilers
5) San Jose Sharks vs. 7) Colorado Avalanche

or:

5) San Jose Sharks vs. 8) Edmonton Oilers
6) Anaheim Mighty Ducks vs. 7) Colorado Avalanche

East is 1 through 4 and West could be 5 through 8.

Ummm, maybe that was true last season, but in the new NHL the trap is out the window. The smaller size of the neutral zone makes it almost impossible to set up a trap before play is in your zone. I was very skeptical about the Devils being able to transition as quickly as they have but I have been convinced that the Devils are the team to beat.

Its a little early to say the trap is gone, that is what Edmonton used to hang with Detroit. These are the finest hockey coaches in the world, if they want to trap, they will trap. That being said, NJ does still trap and will this series.
