One thing I really like about Sidney Lowe was the way he distributed the ball to KellyTripucka in the late 80s.

I think his assistant coaches should be Johnny Newman, Kenny Gattison, and Armon Gilliam.

so... he'll have a degree by the time he coaches here? cuz it doesn't really present a good statement to have a coach without one...

i'm not excited about this... but i guess it's better than nothing...

Could this result in the same way that Amato took his job, working as an assistant in the championship game before he takes on his official role as coach?

I can understand why people may be a little iffy considering his lack of college coaching experience and crappy record as an NBA head coach, but I hope the fanbase can get behind him and support him rather than having the divided fanbase we have had for the past 7 years.

1. What effect will this have on Simmons as well as Werner, Horner, Harris, and (dare I say it) Wright?
2. Will Lowe's blackness help us recruit the way Paul Hewitt did this past year?
3. Do talented african american prospects prefer black coaches?
4. Will Lowe's NBA experience help recruiting?
5. Who would win in a fistfight? Lowe vs Coach K?
6. Who prefers bulleted lists to numbered lists?
7. Holy shit this thread reached 4 pages fast.

^^^^Simmons is gone. I don't know what effect Lowe would have on the recruits that we've already signed. I am hoping that if we get Pete Strickland as an assistant, that his connection to the DC Hoops area (he's a high school bball coach at one of the main schools up there) might help out in that.

A LOT is depending what assistants he hires.

Is the 'canes game at the RBC or in NJ on Sat? If it is here, I doubt they would do the conference the same day....unless the conference is before or after the hockey game.

you are probably right on simmons
good chance at keeping davis
werner and horner - who really cares; they are white boys recruited to run that old offense that should not be named, you know "from the long long ago"

wright - we have a good chance here, Lowe has some good DC ties, and there is rumor that one of his assistants may be a big name in AAU/Highschool hoops around that same area, so this gives us a better chance than some coaches would to keep Wright!

unless we hire wright's AAU coach to be an assistant coach here, i don't think we have a shot in hell at getting him. i hope i'm wrong though.

and all my guesses about who we keep were just that, guesses. not claiming to have any insider info. although i believe brick if he says ced is 100% gone (hired an agent).

^i could see that if say lowe was the star PG of a 93 ncaa title team, but lowe was before wright's time. i think wright would had to have watched and admired lowe playing as a kid for that to be a factor.

^^you obviously have a TON of confidence in Wright's relationship with Herb, because that would be the only reason to feel that strongly about the situation

he obviously has been in touch with our other players, and probably made friends, he likes the school and the facility, and it is not far from home

i say that after making a huge decision like that, we still would have the advantage in re-recruiting the kid, not saying he is coming, but i am not nearly as pessimistic as you, and don't really understand where your negativity comes from, other than just your gut feeling

GIVE ME ONE REASON why wright would go to a school thats begining a rebuilding phase with an unproven coach....maybe you all didnt know, but Herb went to the dance 5 years in a row....maybe that had something to do with why he wanted to come here.

The game is in the RBC, the press conference is in the basketball facility. It is bad timing though, regardless of whether its during or after, since the local media is going to be covering Game 1.

right now our program is a huge question mark. if i'm a big time recruit like wright, i want to come into a stable program and shine. i don't want to have anything to do with possibly rebuilding a program.

plus he talked about how much he liked our offense. now, the entire coaching staff that wright developed ties to and felt the connection with is gone. the offense is gone. nobody knows what to expect from nc state right now.

he has offers from places like villanova. if i had to guess where he ends up right now, i'd say:

75% - nova
20% - somewhere else
5% - here

i'm not being pessimistic, i'm just being logical. wright is starting to get more attention now that he's played another year. his AAU play is turning more heads and this is the time where he will start being very heavily recruited by top programs.

i don't think these programs would have been able to dissuade him from coming here if sendek were still here and he was still a verbal, but that's neither here nor there. the point is, he's a "free agent" now and the top teams in the nation are all going to want him now.

i wish i could have the blind optimism you do that there's still a "good chance" we get him, but i just can't.

Damn you're off. We're at a big disadvantage in my opion. We have more to do than other schools because we got rid of about 75% of his reason to come here. That means we have to make that 75% back up with an unproven coach who has done jack shit in the NBA. Wright made good relationships with other coaches and players at other universities...he just happened to like ours a little better. Now we've lost one of those main "relationships".

Then you add that other coaches have probably been all over him since the recruiting period started and we didn't have a coach.

The only thing we don't have to sell back to him is the school and some of our players. But we have to start ALL OVER with the coaches and assistant coaches...while other schools have been on him for a year or two.

that doesnt constitute a rebuilding phase....what Herb entered was a rebuilding phase. Its going to be tough but State has been in the public eye for the past 5 years and its not going to be rebuilding now. Its going to be maintaining til things settle from this debacle.

^^^it's not a given yet, but right now our worst case scenario is that we have a total of 5 scholarship players next year.

that would DEFINITELY be a rebuilding phase.

ced is gone
brackman is gone

mccauley could transfer to asu (per unconfirmed rumor that hopefully isn't true.)

davis, horner, and werner could all ask for a release from their LOI

that leaves:

atsur
ferguson
costner
grant
fells

and a bunch of walkons
