The Ninth Gate is a really good movie.

Werid sex scene at the end, but still a great one.

It's really weird.

Partially because she's married to the awesome molester director.

Partially because she has gigantic eyebrows.

I have a ? didn't they say that she was the last heir at the beginning of the movie bc I could not understand the big revelation at the end. IMO it sucked a fat one, and I didn't read the book.

No, they didn't say that.

It was fucking obvious, but they didn't say that.

It wasn't bad.

It was entertaining.

It isn't worth any controversy.

Yeah, that easily makes it the best selling movie of the year so far

you can't have a car chase scene with opera music playing in the background

i think they tried too hard to make the movie dramatic...it wasn't that it was so dramatic that it became silly...it just became drawn out

everyone who turned out to be bad...you could tell within 5 seconds of meeting their character that they were bad

the clues and history "lessons" seemed a bit rushed

and the blacklight secret messages in the louvre were kind of silly

between this and national treasure...national treasure was more fun

national treasure was much better, it had better puzzles to solve and more mystery to it. which is sad

i thought it was rather entertaining, and Tom Hanks did a decent job.

***STUPID POINT OF VIEW SPOILER BELOW***

did anyone else feel like tom hanks' character was disappointed that he wasn't going to make jesus babies with the holy grail when they're on the bridge at the end and she totally blows him off to go talk to her grandmother about god and stuff?

hah, I was hanging out by a movie theater yesterday and a bible thumper came up to me with some "supplemental info" booklets about the Da Vinci Code. I wasn't even going to see the movie (i haven't, either)

I decided to mess w/him a little and said that I hadn't seen the movie yet, but had read the book. I kept saying stuff like "I learned a lot of stuff I didn't know before" and "I liked the book because it was filled with facts, which made it interesting".

He was getting pretty flustered.

WHO SAID ALL THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS WOULDN'T KEEP IT FROM MAKING MONEY?

OH YEA, THAT WAS ME.

I was lazy this past weekend and am too busy throughout the week to see Da Vinci code, so I'm really looking forward to making this upcoming weekend a movie-filled experience - The Da Vinci Code, X3, Over the Hedge and probably Art School Confidential.

Should be fun

Don’t believe the hype – this is a great movie.

The actors are great, the visuals are awesome, the story (which I’d already read) is good, and (if jesus had actually existed in the first place) is very convincing.

In fact, the horrible reviews of this film make me question how much more power the church has over the media than we realize.

Also, people are sheep and will do anything to be trendy, even if it means bashing a movie that was great by pointing out its flaws (which are minor) and not mentioning all of the great parts.

Yes, there is some overacting. Yes, there are some plot points that get hammered into you so that you feel like they're talking down to you.

This whole anti-christian rap is ridiculous, however. This story implies that the catholic church holds a secret about christianity, not that christianity is wrong. It implies that the vatican is a secretive, powerful entity with many tangled webs within. Wow, how groundbreaking. The only thing it attacks within christianity is the idea that jesus was married, but that IN NO WAY questions anything else about it. Jesus' divinity is questioned, but again, so what? It is very reverent in its description of jesus.

Oh, and *SPOILER*

Langdon tells sophie at the end that if she is a descendent of jesus, she has a decision - to protect faith or to destroy it. The question as to whether or not she should take down the church is left open ended.

maybe its just late and i'm tired, but what exactly would being a decendant of mary magdelene prove? its not like there was any dna evidence to say that jesus was definitely her husband, or that he even fathered her child, just some old records.

I was very disappointed in this movie, the chemestry between the 2 main characters that was in the book was not there, among other things. It was watered down and to tell you the truth, I don't see what the fuss about Tom Hanks is about, I think he sucked at his part in the movie. Casting was not as good as it should have been. This is my opinion however, I wish I did not spend my money on this movie, may be because I read the book and expected better acting but I was yawning about half way through it.

Oh and that added walking on water part at the end was lame.
