Looked to me like Curtis was shot in the middle of the neck, Jack was not necessarily going for the definite headshot kill, and he definitely did some careful aiming before the shot. We never necessarily saw him outright die and the bullet probably didn't hit the jugular due to the lack of spurting blood. Now if he really did die it would not surprise me, 24 has a habit of killing off big characters in the past, but it may not have been fatal, we never saw after he hit the deck....

^^ They only do that if someone dies tragically and/or honorably. Tony and Curtis died while trying to do something selfish. Tony definitely deserved a silent clock, considering the impact he had on the show in the first 3 seasons.

could be wrong, but there have been times in the past when they haven't done the silent beeps and 'afflicted person' was still dead

but maybe the fact that there were a few minutes between curtis's death and the end of the episode accounted for the lack of silent beeps, who knows

Exactly, what Jack does is right, and Jack did not shoot Curtis in an absolutely fatal location. Jack, being an expert marksman and also having a ton of time to set his aim, easily could have shot Curtis in the head if he wanted to, but he didn't. For what it's worth, I'm not the only one that feels it is a possibility, Wikipedia's episode summary and death count lists Curtis as a 'possible' and 'unconfirmed' death. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/9:00AM-10:00AM_%2824_season_6%29 It also could be a good plot twist if Curtis were to perhaps still have some role left to play relating to Jack and show back up later.

On another note, when did Fayed leave the warehouse to avoid the nuclear blast? He showed up in the preview for the next episode so clearly he was not blown away by the nuke like most of the rest of his terrorist squad.
