According to the perpetually wrong Eklund, Weight is drawing a lot of interest from other teams and could possibly be in a city other than St. Louis or Raleigh.

All these Vets tend to come to Raleigh and fall in love with the area (golf, beach, mountians, not Canada, etc.) so their families want to move here.

If Recchi or Wieght are back it would be a ,ild upset but I'd love to see it. The more that happens the better chance bigtime FAs will sign with the Canes in the future.

More change in the Southeast

Quote :
"TAMPA, Fla. (CP) - The Tampa Bay Lightning have the No. 1 goalie they've been looking for.

The team acquired Marc Denis from the Columbus Blue Jackets today in exchange for winger Fredrik Modin and goalie Fredrik Norrena."

^^damn, is that Pronger's wife? Also, Hutchinson just resigned. Let's hope Wallin and Ward will follow soon.

Quote :
" The Hurricanes head into the weekend with some question marks, starting with Cole. Rutherford said the 27-year-old physical forward turned down multiyear offers and appears headed for a one-year deal that will allow him to test the open market after next season.

Cole had a career-high 30 goals before his regular season ended when he was driven headfirst into the boards by Pittsburgh's Brooks Orpik on March 4. Cole was supposed to be done for the season with a broken bone in his neck, but he returned to provide a lift in the final two games against the Oilers.

Cole made $1.14 million last season.

"I like what Justin Williams did. He's made the commitment. He's made it long-term," Rutherford said. "I would prefer Erik Cole to do the same thing, but at this point in time, it appears he will choose to do a one-year deal.""

I thought you can't be an unrestricted free agent until you play 9 years in the league.

Not any more.

Hopefully, Cole is quietly reserved to the fact that he'll prove he's at 100% this season and then sign a long-term contract based on his place in the team.

...and now I hear an XM report that says that A. Ward ISN'T leaving.

This shit is too stressful. Call me when camp starts and I'll see who's there.

Cole wants a one year deal.

while I'd love to keep Cullen, if we get Cole back it's a success.

Going into next year w/at least Cole, Staal, Stillman, Whitney, Recchi, Brindy, Williams.... umm, yes!

Cole will be back next season regardless. He is an UFA. I wouldn't expect Recchi to be back, though.

what does this put us up to for the 06-07 season as far as cap numbers?

im thinking 31 mil for 18 players?

this gives us 10 mil for cole, cullen, award, backup goalie, maybe weight

We have our new backup

Quote :
"With Martin Gerber opting out after losing his job to Cam Ward in the playoffs, the Carolina Hurricanes looked south for a new No. 2 and signed John Grahame from the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday.

Grahame won an AHL title with Peter Laviolette and served as one of Laviolette's three goalies on the U.S. Olympic team in February. Expendable in Tampa after an erratic season and tumultuous relationship with coach John Torotorella, the 30-year-old was Nikolai Khabibulin's backup during the Lightning's Stanley Cup season in 2003-04 but faltered when asked to share the starting role with Sean Burke last season.

He agreed to a two-year deal worth $1.4 million per season.

Gerber was rumored to be considering a handful of multi-year offers in excess of $3 million per season."

that's a bit much for a backup goalie. I don't think we even paid Gerber that much.

Boston signs Marc Savard, and reportedly are close to getting Brendan Shanahan.
