But those 3 machines must belong to you.

Office for Windows allows 2 separate installs...one on a desktop and one on a laptop, not 2 desktops or 2 laptops.

What the hell difference does it make. If you paid for a copy that installs on three machines and you only have one, you STILL paid for the right to install it on two other machines. Don't act so high and mighty and pretend like its stealing.

i find ^ amusing, i really do...but if PC stands for "personal computer", how is a mac NOT a pc? so in all actuality, apple really is trashing microsoft, so why don't they just come out and say it?

I really wish Apple would quit name every fucking piece of hardware or software they make with an acronym. MAC, IPOD, ITUNES ... it all gets annoying. Quit with the acronyms, APPLE!!

i think it was basically established about 25 years ago that PC would refer to IBM compatible machines....

it was established by...who, apple? because "PC" technically refers to both...this doesn't really bother me, and i'm not trying to argue just for the hell of it, but i hate how apple thinks their shit is God's gift to computing

I suspect quagmire's bike wasn't stolen. It freed itself and ran away because it couldn't deal with quagmire's idiocy any longer.

does Fry understand sarcasm?

hopefully Fry, who is apparently soon to be a MacBook owner, will realize that Mac is not an acronym, as is protrayed in the spoof ad, just as IPOD is often written also.

No, it was used correctly.

Your understanding of sarcasm is what's incorrect.
I, too, have owned/used several. Only someone who has is touchy enough to go ballistic over the misspelling of Apple product names. However, all the other retards (ie, non-Apple users harharhar) who insist on spelling Mac as MAC and iPod as IPOD seem to write the acronym with no understanding of what it means (which is nothing, of course).

Bobby gets it. Agent gets it. Gargs gets it but has to show off his e-penis by giving us the actual acronym expansion of MAC (which we've all known for years, but thanks anyway). You .... not so much.

quite a bit of it has nothing to do with the subject.

i bought an ibook three months ago. suspected that the hard drive crapped out on me last night since the OS X would not get past loading screen. tried reinstall but the install would hang at disc 2. called applecare next morning, went through reinstall with them, they said it was the installation disks and they would ship out new ones to me and i should get them in 2-3 WEEKS. told the rep that was unacceptable. was sent to the "genius bar" at the apple store in crabtree. the "genius" there (thats what they actually call em) after mirroring a default disk image, getting through the installation, but failing to actually start OS X, concluded it was the hard drive. first apple laptop ive ever bought and likely the last. oh the guy next to me had one of the new macbooks and i overheard something about having to replace teh logic board on them and that it was a known issue. great. apple my ass.

^ yea but PCs are shitty and are expected to suck and go bad. apples should NEVER go bad

I had a screen go bad on my powerbook and was thoroughly impressed with apple's repair process. I called them one Monday afternoon (maybe 2 or 3 pm) and the very next day before 8am I received the box. I packed up the computer after I backed everything up, took it to DHL around 1pm, got an email from them Wednesday morning saying they received the computer and would start working on it. Thurday morning at 8am DHL knocked on my door and my computer was all fixed. I was without the computer for less than 48 hours. I was impressed!

^^^^I thought I had a similar problem my hard drive, but it turned out to be the install discs. I was trying to do an Erase and Install and it would just hang. So i called Apple, talk to the tech rep for a little bit..he couldnt figure it out. So then i was tranferred to an Apple expert; he figured it must be the install discs and told me he would be sending me new hardware install discs that will be shipped next day and retail version of Mac OS X 10.4.3 for free via UPS ground shipping. Sure enough, i got the hardware install discs and a few days later a retail version of Mac OS X. Now THAT is the Apple i know.

comand-v while starting up is your friend. Gives you a verbose startup, might give you a clue as to what's hanging.

Consumer Reports' survey of 134,000 laptop owners would seem to suggest you're wrong. Dell scored well below average in terms of tech support, repair services, and customer services. Apple basically destroyed everyone, with IBM/Lenovo trailing in a distant second, and all other computer manufacturers close to each other but still well seperated from both Lenovo and Apple.

In terms of reliabilty and actual need for repairs, Apple and Dell were with in the margin of error of each other (with apple slightly ahead from the raw numbers.) The standard deviation in results means that they are effectively tied in terms of reliability.

This is of course more likely than not the battery manufacturers fault, but it's relevant none the less.

I think it has to do with third party batteries or negligence.

All smart batteries these days have an overheating sensor that shuts down the charging if the temperature goes above a certain threshold. My Dell battery has overheated probably twice and in both cases the charging was cut off as was shown by the indicator, and both the times I had it placed on a comforter.

that "shootout" is so geared towards Macs. The hardware is essentially the same except for the LCD.

The only real difference is OSX vs XP, and WOW BIG SUPRISE OSX is rated higher.

I also take issue with the so called "yellow shade means its better" because sure as fuck that most of the software available for XP rivals its OSX counterpart and in some cases, outclasses it.

So basically, if you like OSX, buy the macintrash. If you don't, then who cares. Nothing new here move along.

Macs have more than just cool cases and a "cute" operating system. OS X doesn't just look good...and now with Intel hardware, Apple isn't trailing far behind the rest of the PC world in performance.

I would strongly recommend anyone going into bioinformatics or any research in the life sciences to avoid PCs like the plague.

Personally I find they are good for doing taxes.

The Mac is also significantly cheaper.

Also, a lot of Windows software sucks really badly, where as there isn't as much Mac software, but less of it sucks.

not sure if this is the right thread for this question, but I'll try.

just bought a macbook on the tax-free weekend, the first mac i've ever used. can anyone recommend some dvd burning software i could download, or is iDVD supposed to do it?

if you could hold off on the pc-mac flaming that'd be great. i have both, not trying to say ones better than the other or anything....
