Saw it last night and loved it.

Sadly I was drinking heavily at the time and the last 30 minutes of the movie are hazy.

average in terms of Scorcese films, not average in terms of every movie released last year. I liked the movie and did think that it was one of the top 10 best movies of 2006, but the media and a good amount of my friends were making this movie out to be the best thing ever

not the best movie I've ever seen, but it was definitely a good watch. I thought leo and marky mark were awesome. Alec Baldwin was stellar as well.

just saw it. Pretty good movie. Should I say spoiler now? Ok, *spolier*

I saw the ending coming, when he gave the envelope to her I was pretty sure it was a tip off to Matt Damon's true identity(didn't see the Marky Mark doing the final killing though). However, I had hoped that Matt Damon's character would turn out to be the good guy, but maybe that would be twisting things a little too much. Overall good movie.

Oh and I'm guessing the baby was Leo's because he had a sex scene......if nothing else.

Yeah umm.... The premise was GREAT but definitely not Scorcesse's (I really don't feel like looking up the spelling of that shit) best work. I had to keep myself from falling asleep and the ending sucked ass.

Apparently "The Academy" doesn't agree, apparently it is his best work because they finally awarded the man a damn Oscar, haha, it's about time.

A lot of times they'll throw someone an Oscar because they have had a lot of great performances (or for directors movies) and haven't won anything whether that picture really deserves it or not.

yeah its basicaly a makeup call for Goodfellas, Raging Bull and Taxi Driver

but at the same time, even though everyone will admit Scorcese made better films, how many/what films released in 2006 were better? Certainly you could argue some, but I think The Departed was right up near the top

i would have preferred a win for babel. but the departed certainly wasn't bad. but it's hard to argue a best picture nod for a remake.

For me, at least five. There wasn't much better for action junkies, though.

Regardless, it was well-deserved, and Martin Scorsese made one of my favorite movies (The Last Temptation of Christ).

crime/drama/action/intrigue/thriller thing

"BOY MOVIE"

There wasn't a better movie with a similar or greater body count.

[Edited on February 26, 2007 at 3:53 PM. Reason : Admittedly, there isn't much action as far as shit blowing up. But that's not what I meant.]

Is there actually a place in Mass where everyone talks with that accent?

I understand the idea of regional accents and all, but even in the South it will be difficult to find a big city where everybody (even the educated) has a strong drawl.

Oh, I agree that the ending was bad. I heard that in the Hong Kong version the Rat turns himself in after the mass murder scene. And this, personally, is a better ending for me. It just does not feel right to have him executed after a very bloody and revealing ending at 344. They should have had him confess and then used the "extra footage" with Marky Mark to sell the DVDs.

Oh and ^^ my answer to that would be that the envelope had nothing to do with Bill being murdered at the bottom of 344.

turn himself in??

he's evil, he's been evil the entire movie with few if any redeeming qualities, and never any indication of any form of repentance. His death is poetic justice.

Well, to put it into Bill's words (where he said "I am killing you") he would still be dead. So technically, you could still have justice without messing around with the conclusion of the movie. The way it is now, the death scene (at 344) is the natural concluding spot. And because that is the concluding section of the piece, having him killed at the end reads like something stupid that they just tacked on.

So, I was not suprised at all when I heard that the ending was tacked on, because I think it is a flaw which naturally gives you that feeling of B.S.

This is my take, and I'm sure everyone will disagree:
If you leave the South for a while (let's say a year), don't talk to anyone from there, and then you come back, that Southern accent hits you like a truck. It's VERY noticeable in almost every single person you meet.
So maybe the accents were overdone, maybe it was on purpose, maybe it really is like that. I don't know, I've never been to Boston.

"i want my life back you two faced faggot"

i chuckled

^ and i'm pretty damn sure the accents are strong as balls in the poor/slum neighborhoods

at least that's the case for most every other accent. Find a white trash trailer park where people's drawl doesn't make you want to slit your wrists and report back

Saw this last night.

Favorite lines in the movie. 10 minutes in I was thought "Mark Wahlberg is prick" and 30 minutes in I was like "Wahlberg is awesome".

Anyone think Matt Damon could've been gay (in the movie)? He seems to call people homo/faggot/cocksucker a lot (popular notion for a closet case, see American Beauty), can't get it up with his gf, and he couldn't even get it up in a porno theater (why a porn theater even exists when we have the internet is beyond me). There's no evidence he's attracted to dudes, but given the only people who say homo or faggot are talking to him (Baldwin when he points out "people know you're not a homo" and DiCaprio when they're on the roof) seems to imply that. Just another take on the whole ED thing. *shrug*

And going back to rallydurham's point about Matt Damon marrying a not-that-attractive chick, John F. Kennedy, Jr. was widely considered the most desirable man in the world and his wife wasn't much to look at. It happens. I mean, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, anyone?
