"so what was the terrorism threat again?"

Apparently there was no threat at all. People were supposed to know that how? I guess everybody should learn all of the prayers of Islam so we can tell the difference between a 5PM evening prayer and a psych-up for a hijacking attempt.

OR

If we're going to expect the air crew of the plane to be our security officials, they should have to be deputized. I mean, why not?

OR

everybody could exercise a little bit of common fucking sense, including the people calling for a gigantic lawsuit over this. At the very most, he should have gotten his flight for free, and maybe another free flight to offset the time spent in all of this mess. That sounds reasonable to me. Driving another stake into the heart of the airline industry doesn't, even though they're corporations and they do corporationy things, have meetings, and make money.

Maybe he's not.

But there's a lot of people hoping UA gets the "shit sued out of it". I'm expressing how fucking braindead that sentiment is.

Are you denying that having a sound training program for your flight attendants is a sound component of free market competition?????

The only concern you can really have of relevance is that UA might lose business to customers that refuse to fly with an airline that doesn't sufficiently train its staff to recognize the difference between a terrorist and a man praying.

You've got to be ridiculously naive to think other airlines have never dealt with this problem on other flights before.

So, what we have here is a change in tastes. Whoever doesn't want to risk being frog marched off a UA flight unnecessarily because some passenger noticed him praying, or doesn't want to economically support UA for its decision, has the means of taking their business to another airline.

I'm sure that Continental & Southwest already have executives pitching the ideas of training their staff for these matters and positioning themselves as the "friendlier" airline already. Oh wait...I think Delta's already after that one.

So I'm not concerned with the industry because of this. Compared with the foiled attacks in the UK, this won't even register an effect on air traffic. They already have bigger problems and have already received an anti-competitive subsidy of enormous proportions within recent enough memory to deal with that.

Haha, the problem is that a lot of the times a terrorist and a man praying are the same thing.

Right. So you train the crew to look for more or other factors in conjunction.

Freedom of speech is a right guaranteed in this country. Last time I checked, there was no freedom of getting drunk and calling terrorist on some arab dood because youre drunk.

I agree with this. I also don't necessarily disagree with their reaction either. They should compensate him with a refund for his flight, and probably a free flight for his inconvenience. This doesn't need to be a legal issue. There's a lot he could have done to keep this from being a problem.

It's a tough situation to approach and being in the air makes people tense enough in the first place. Either way it was a quick decision and I don't see it as being tragic that they took the avenue they did.

Edit:

Also, if this is just the case of some drunk asshole causing assplankery because he's a prejudiced douchebag, he should have gotten put off of the plane. If it's pretty obvious that he was doing this just to cause a problem, then there should be consequences for him as well.

Now the Koran tells the faithful to take non-believers and either subugate them or kill them. Is this just a cute proverb-type thing? What do we do with a country run by extremists who really want to follow this idea through to its logical conclusion?

Is there a point when the country's existence is no longer wanted by the rest of the world and it is obliterated never again to gain a foot-hold with their poisonous tripe?

Who the fuck cares. It shouldn't be okay to heckle people for anything on a plane.

The best thing about this is, you people who hate white Christians think having the cock of Islam in your mouth is a fashionable thing. I hate both religions something fierce, and find it necessary to felate neither.

Oh but they are. It's just way cooler to hate Christians and fellate Muslims, to a certain crowd. These are the same people who hate Christianity's guts based upon the same reasons I hate Islam's and Judaism's, but who are so intellectually dishonest that they take up the mantle of the current opposite. It's called being contrarian. When you push it to an extreme is when you bitch about people who wear crosses, and think it's cool for people to recite popular terrorist phrases on a plane.

everyone is hateful like him. some just whitewash the hardness of their hearts while they sit for an hour a week in church, synagogue, mosque or other religious facility and tell themselves that they are pious while doing anything and everything they want during the week, walking around hating members of group x.

again with the hate.

call me crazy, but i've seen religion do good things for plenty of people. i'mnot one of those people. i like to judge people on their acts, not who they pray to (or if they pray at all). if a christian does stupid shit, then i'll call them out. the same thing with a buddhist, muslim or jew.

religion isn't an excuse for dumb behavior nor does it mean that someone necessarily is dumb.

Oh hey cool, and I've seen it cause a ridiculous amount of conflict outweighing whatever comforting effect it has, has had, or will have. These "good things" you're talking about are ensuring ethics (ha ha that works great) for twats who can't see any point in acting right without an ultimate authority figure, and comforting people who are terrified of death.

Quote :
"again with the hate."

This isn't the appropriate response for a set of ideologies that has resulted in what Abrahamic religion has? I want whatever you're smoking, because anything that could force me to abandon common sense and want to stroke off even the biggest assholes in the world has got to be some amazing shit.

Quote :

Religion has never been about being "dumb". People are easy to manipulate for other reasons than just being stupid -- and the funny thing about human beings is that once they arrive at a solution that's comfortable for them, they'll do a hell of a job rationalizing it.

Actually many of my positions aren't comfortable for me. I do my best to let my reasoning lead to my opinions, not my opinions lead to my reasoning.

Do you honestly think I don't want to live forever in a blissful eternity? Are you nuts? If I could get myself to buy it, I would, but the reasoning stares me in the face. When somebody comes up with a line of reasoning that I can buy, I'll sign on the dotted line.

I said I hate both religions, not the practicioners of said religions. One of my best friends is a Southern Baptist Christian. She knows where I stand, I know where she stands. We avoid the topic because we just run in circles. My mother is Catholic. Do I hate her? Of course not (maybe only when she bugs me to get confirmed ).

Yeah you're right, you can't prove things true with a scientific mind -- only show things to be likely. That's fine with me. What about us suggests we can tap anything resembling truth?

"Muslim MP in UK appeals for calm after two Asians boarded off from a plane

Monday August 21, 01:37 PM

London, Aug 21 (ANI): Following yesterday's incident whereby two Asians were kicked off a jet because other passengers (mis)took them as terrorists, a Muslim MP here has pleaded for people to calm down and stop engaging in hysteria.

Khalid Mahmood, an MP from Birmingham's Perry Barr, dismissed the incident as 'hugely irrational'.

"People need to get their senses back into order. You can't just treat anybody of Asian appearance like a terrorist. I understand there is a huge tension and anxiety but people just need to calm down. Hysteria doesn't do anybody any good," The Sun quoted Mahmood as saying.

The two men were ordered off a Monarch Airlines Airbus A320 by armed police after other passengers told the cabin crew that they feared for their safety. The pilot refused to take off until they were escorted from the plane, and the men were put up in a hotel and left on a later plane.

The duo wore leather jackets and jumpers despite the heat and repeatedly checked their watches. (ANI)"

OK, I can see how that would arouse suspicion, but surely, with all the security measures in place in the UK now, whereby you pretty much have to disrobe, the passengers should feel reassured, right? Anyway, we are all human.

well duh!

but that's what i am saying, they should have felt reassured.

i mean, they confiscate any bottles or liquids, they remove your shoes (mandatory for all passengers), they make you remove all jackets/coats/3rd layer of clothing, etc, so what else can the airline industry do?

i mean, if after all that, the passengers still don't feel reassured, then what?
