They do two independent tests. I would imagine it's pretty fool proof. They can always give the belt back if by some weird coincidence he wins.
FUCK cheaters.
I would love to see an 8 man grand prix for the belt. In the end, it will come down to who is going to get their ass kicked by BJ -- assuming BJ keeps the form he displayed with pulver. 7/20/2007 10:35:40 AM |

if he wins the appeal all is fair..but i seriously doubt it
i dont care how low it is relative to Royces levels and what potentially could metabolise, ill think of it as nothin more than him fuckin up in cycling and gettin caught with the last little bit in him
how long to these appeals take? the welterweight title is already being held up cuz of TUF (retarded) and I dont want the LW title being held up also waiting for some damn appeal that hell prolly lose 7/20/2007 8:30:22 PM |

Everyone in title fights gets tested.
I'm still holding out hope that he's telling the truth.
Quote : | "So, if the tests are flawed, what could be going wrong? Many excuses have been put forward to suggest why nandrolone is present in much higher concentrations than it should be. Bobsleigh racer Lenny Paul said that his positive test was due to eating a plate of spaghetti bolognese which contained beef from cattle that had been fed steroids. Although the UK Sport Nandrolone Review Group said that there was only a 'remote' possibility of meat consumption leading to a positive test, the athlete was cleared by his sporting body. Another sportsman, a boxer, said he failed his test after having sex with his pregnant wife! He too, was cleared.
Another possible explanation, often cited by athletes caught with positive tests, is that the nandrolone in their system arose from the use of protein milkshakes and the amino acid creatine, which are perfectly legal and used as dietary supplements to increase weight. But it is difficult to see how nandrolone could be produced from the benign components of these substances, unless they had been accidentally or deliberately contaminated. Subsequent testing, however, ruled out any deliberate contamination.
A much more likely theory has recently emerged from the results of a preliminary investigation at Aberdeen University. The findings are that dietary supplements themselves are harmless and produce no increased levels of nandrolone. Exercise alone, too, doesn't cause any problems. But a combination of both dietary supplements (none of which contain a banned substance) and exercise, can result in a positive nandrolone test. The reason for this is still unclear, but one theory is that there is a link between heavy training, the dehydration that goes with it, and their effects upon the components of high protein diets. Until more work is done, however, the 'nandrolone mystery' goes on..." |

Quote : | "Bill could bring UFC fights to NC 08/02/2007 01:55 PM By: Associated Press
UFC fighting RALEIGH -- A popular form of organized fighting could soon enter the ring in North Carolina after lawmakers agreed Thursday to order state law enforcement officers to regulate mixed martial arts.
The approved legislation, now headed to Gov. Mike Easley's desk for his signature, would also increase fees the state Alcohol Law Enforcement Division charges fighters, their managers, promoters and referees, to pay for the division's increased responsibilities. A $1.50 fee also would be added to each ticket to fighting events regulated by the state.
In mixed martial arts, fighters use a combination of martial arts, boxing and wrestling to try to defeat an opponent in a ring, cage or combination of the two.
A form of the sport known as "ultimate warrior" matches was banned in North Carolina in the 1990s after it was deemed too bloody and uncontrolled by critics. But supporters argue the sport has cleaned up its act and improved its safety, and it now draws millions of television viewers on cable and pay-per-view outlets.
The legislation approved Thursday removes the "ultimate warrior" ban and legalizes mixed martial arts. It directs the Alcohol Law Enforcement Division and the Department of Crime Control and Public Safety to adopt permanent rules to regulate mixed martial arts as soon as possible.
An earlier version of the bill would have increased the minimum liability insurance requirements for so-called "toughman" events, single-elimination tournaments of amateur boxers that often attract locals to spar at small-town venues. But that provision, which was designed to slowly eliminate the events, was removed in the Senate.
Another bill on Easley's desk, passed last week, creates an advisory commission to make recommendations on regulating boxing and other forms of competitive fighting." |

well sherk gets an extension to his appeal...
http://www.ufc.com/index.cfm?fa=news.detail&gid=7152
i don't see why so many people hate the guy.....every post i see on other forums is always negative...and it is before the fact of this ordeal....i admire his work ethic and his discipline (granted steroids are not in the picture)...
as for causes of positive testing....after watching that workout special of his.... shit he takes 15 pills, four times a day.....out of 60 pills, i would think there is a strong chance somethin illegal is going to show up.... 8/7/2007 4:51:01 PM |

I don't personally hold this view, but alot of the newer MMA fans hate on Sherk because he is not a finisher. That is to say, he lays and prays alot waiting for the points victory instead of the quick KO or submission win. 8/7/2007 5:16:24 PM |

If anybody was wondering where all the blood came from at ufc 74:

Holy shit, what an ass kicking. There's a backstory that Heath wore a t-shirt to the ring with Babalu's mugshot on it and that ticked him of a bit. He got fined 25k for holding the choke like he did, half his purse for the fight. What a fucking badass. 8/26/2007 11:47:05 PM |
